I got back on MTGO this weekend. Found out I have half the deck online. Still short about 300 Tix, but I'll cover that gap this summer hopefully. Played a few rounds with a pile I don't even want to post, but I still won both matches. One against a grixis deck that was supposedly missing cards, and against a Pili-Pala combo deck. Not the most competitive, but it was fun playing MODO again.

I'm currently testing two different Ruse lists, and I can't decide which I like better. I have been playing Bant since Thraben Inspector was spoiled; that card is pure gas. Hierarchs are also very important to the Bant version of the deck, and Restoration Angel is a sweet card with or without Vials.

The other version that I've really been liking is Temur-Black. Essentially the Temur Version but with Kolaghan's Command, which, if you didn't know, is obscene with Eternal Witness. Cool sideboard option: Countersquall.

I'm still in the camp that Goyf doesn't belong in the deck. I like Tasigur in the Sultai/TemurB versions better. But that's just my opinion.

I played against a U/B Madness deck a few days ago. The guy was using Merfolk Looter and Thought Courier as free value discard outlets, as well as a few Monastery Seiges. The deck felt solid playing against it, and I think a grixis version could easily be Tier 1. We haven't even seen Jace + Madness yet, but I have a feeling we will

The Best deck in No-Ban Modern is Eldrazi by a mile. 8Post + 8Tomb + Cavern , with Thorns to stop the unfair decks. I've played quite a lot of this format and in my experience, it appears the only card that absolutely NEEDS to be banned in Modern is Eye of Ugin. The Eldrazi deck is "fair" in No banned modern without it, but Eye gives the deck too much consistency and cements the deck as King Supreme. It is an Eldrazi temple that Tutors for basically 3 mana in this deck.

I apparently came to this thread to see only your comment. Sad that the thread has died but I think FV and everyone playing AV will certainly change that

Nonbasic lands lose all abilities and gain "T: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool."

Good hoser for the strong ability lands and multiple mana lands while not locking people out of the game like Back to Basics or Blood Moon

  • posted a message on Does anyone actually enjoy Modern?
Modern is by far my favorite competitive format. It overtook vintage earlier this year when CruiseDig was crushing everything and Pod (My most hated card in the format) got banned. I play random wacky decks or "tier 1" decks or whatever and usually have fun. I lose enough but that's because of my rusty playskill and the brews that I bring to the virtual table. Modern is amazing because it's slow enough that nothing bah-roken is happening but it still has very powerful cards and synergies (snap-bolt??). And even though it has its pillars, they actually aren't top-tier decks in my opinion, because honestly, when was the last time we had a GP top 8 with multiple twin and jun/dk decks?? They're strong, solid choices, not dominant decks

This is the deck for Sun Droplet I think! probably out of the sideboard to deal with RDW. [And] I definitely think you should be playing ... Mox Opal

Check out Randy's and Bob's faces at 2015 Vintage champs right here. Bob looks SO bored and randy just looks frozen for like 10 seconds, perfectly still!

Preview card from Battle for Zendikar:

    Titan's Presence 3
    Instant
As an additional cost to cast Titan's Presence, reveal a colorless creature card from your hand.
Exile target creature if its power is less than or equal to the revealed card's power.

Finally a colorless removal spell! (other than dismember, I know, I know....) Seems tailor made for shops, at least in the sideboard against creature decks

"Off-color" fetches are more attractive with the baselands. You search for basics turn 1 and 2 with fetches, then your fetchlands become nearly as powerful as they are in legacy. If you don't see the synergy, wait until the new duals are 15+ a pop, all because of standard. And they'll see play in Modern too. Especially strong in moon-resistant decks

Its your fault for playing a Voltron deck and expecting your opponents to be cool with you killing them. I will scoop in response to attackers all the time. NO, you cannot attack another player, and NO you do not get your triggers. Don't kill me next time and maybe it will go differently (it won't because most people I play with online are the exact same way). Play a more fair deck, or play more strategically. Don't get enraged because your opponents are better strategic players than you, and want to punish you for FOCUSING on them in a multiplayer game. The most ****ed up thing in a multiplayer game is losing to one player focusing on you and having to watch and wait out the rest of the game when the player that killed you is disrupted (after you die).
