This is a great card for control decks and most likely will want to find a place in Sultai Control initially where you have more GY interaction. That said, it's not a jam 4 draw card, but you will see 1-2 played in most control decks due to it's power in the late-game.
Of course, it's worth adding that control with largely depend on the meta. If copycat gets banned, then more decks will be around to compete with Mardu Vehicles and that deck will be weakened.
Well, in a recent online tournament Osmanozguney (who has played Faeries successfully online quite a bit) played a more typical controlling shell, along the lines of what we've been discussing regarding less MD discard, more draw rather than Copter, and Rain of Tears in the SB.
Seems like it fits best in a G/W tokens oriented deck. We'll see what creatures and token producers the next set brings, but you can certainly think of T1 Thraben Inspector leading into Sylvan Advocate and then Nissa to get things started. A lot of creature pumping possible between Nissa and Ajani's Oath.
After looking at this weekend's standard tournament, I can understand why. Standard is really poor right now. 27 of the top 32 decks were B/G or U/W Flash.
Holy crap. That was one of the most boring top 32 lists I've ever seen. What were there, 27 decks of B/G Delirium or W/U Flash? This is truly a poor standard meta. It explains why I haven't really been feeling the urge to play recently. The Wizards designers need to do better.
This is the deck Ive been running the last week or so. Its so efficient against aggro decks that are running the meta right now.
Looks decent. I've been surprised on MTGO by how much non-aggro there is being tested. Lots of Marvel decks at the moment, and that deck is painful for control to beat. Depending on the meta, another Lost Legacy may be needed in your SB. I wouldn't leave home without 2 in RB. I would also consider dropping 1 Transgress the Mind for another Ruinous Path. Resolved walkers can really ruin our day as we generally don't have enough creatures to effectively pressure them. I play 3 and I still find myself pinging them with Chandra to keep them off ultimates.
Is it just me, or Night Market Lookout is one of the most pushed one-drop commons we had in years? 1/1 that drains 1 whenever it swings? It's pretty much a Thornbow Archer that lacks the mirror match drawback and drains instead of just dealing, at the cost of a single point of toughness. And that card was really not bad at all in Origins. Not to mention the massive Vehicle synergy.
Veteran Motorist also seems pretty solid. 3/1 for WR with a scry 2 stapled on is already gravy, but the bonus on Vehicle crewing just pushes it over the top. Seems Standard playable if Vehicles become a thing.
Also note the lack of Regeneration in Kaladesh. In fact, Black just got a card that gives creatures Indestructible, which seems like a huge color pie shift. Is Regeneration officially out of evergreen territory?
Overall, plenty of cool stuff. I'm likin' it a lot.
I have the opposite opinion. I think the 2 drop is stronger. A resilient threat for grindy MUs. Could make the cut as a sideboard card or a maindeck 2 of. The 1 drop seems very situational (very good sometimes, very bad sometimes. Inconsistent. And doesn't provide a good body or evasion).
Yeah, the Scrounger seems quite good. Bring it back at the end of your opponent's turn and throw Cranial Plating on it the next? I like it. And, the starting stats for a 2-drop are quite good.
CoCo blew up the format, which should have been fairly obvious to the stupid designers when they started crafting so many overpowered 3cc (and less) creatures. It's ridiculous. How much card and board advantage do GWx aggro decks need? I will be very glad when it rotates.
It also dodges Ultimate Price, which is a nice bonus in Standard. The trample alone is going to be nice in either Standard or Modern. Makes it harder for pesky weenies and tokens to block it effectively. Add in the smoother card draws and it is an amazing card.
I can already tell that this will be one of those 'walkers that a lot of people try to make work but will invariably end up not working. It's a build-around card that's not worth building around. There are already numerous Madness and Delirium triggers that are cheaper and we're getting an instant-speed Vindicate so what's the point of using her in Standard?
Great art though.
I would not be surprised. Such was the fate of Narset Transcendent. If that is the case, at least I would be able to buy it at a low price if I can't get it in a trade or from a pack. That's how I got my narset for 10 dollars when she crashed from like 30 dollars.
I have to agree. I know Shaheen Soorani is very enthused by Nahiri, but he was equally enthused by Narset, and we know she is merely a fringe player. The more I thought about Nahiri today, the more meh I started to feel about her. I think her usage will depend in large part on the power of the Madness cards in the set. Her -2 is really restrictive. With Mantis Rider fading away, the main played vigilant creature is currently Sylvan Advocate, so that isn't so bad. But I don't like that you need to wait for a swing to come your way for a turn before you can get rid of the troublesome creature that might get played. The opponent can play multiple creatures freely without concern. She doesn't defend herself all that well. We'll see.
Jesus guys, counterspells still exist in the format. Lol.
They can't get two Reflector Mages in at instant speed if you Negate their Collected Company. Or Stubborn Denial, or Dispel, or Disdainful Stroke.
I mean sure, if you're playing a fair midrange deck in this format without blue, you have no chance. But that's your own fault. You can't just play whatever you want in Standard, as much as the mana bases would make you think you could. You have to be constrained by the realities of the format.
Sadly, counter magic has been pushed mainly to the sideboard with the ridiculous amount of value and recursion we see in aggro and ramp lists these days. As a draw-go control player, I don't see many favorable for that style of control at the moment.
We need something like Rest in Peace to shake things up. Rally and Den Protector decks can far too easily play around the current answers.
Maybe you guys are displaying a bit of "on camera" bias?
Edit: Also, of note, 8 different decks in the Top 8.
Yeah, that was a surprise, although there were plenty of them that still showed up in the top 32. I think my big issue in standard is that it's going to be tough on control with all of these tricky aggro and ramp decks out there. There are just very few good matchups for blue-based control decks at the moment, and that's my preferred style. Hoogland's BW deck isn't too bad as a control deck in the current meta, but I still worry about how resilient some of these decks are at the moment with so much recursion. All of the Kalitas and Hallowed Moonlights are in the SB just to counter all the GY recursion in the meta, and they aren't even great answers. A Rest in Peace or something similar would certainly be a help.
Yes, I know it's a bit early to start seeing control decks on the Pro tour, but it's not looking good in this meta.
It's still early, but not looking like a good standard format at the moment. The Rally decks seem to be impervious to most of the answers out there. I don't think a control deck will have much consistency against it. Maybe the red decks (Atarka, Prowess) can get underneath them before they get going, but the power of Rally is not looking balanced.
Of course, it's worth adding that control with largely depend on the meta. If copycat gets banned, then more decks will be around to compete with Mardu Vehicles and that deck will be weakened.

I've been running into the Marvel decks online so much that I wonder how this deck could possibly do anything against them.
It is certainly an excellent pilot for vehicles!
