It's on average a turn 4 kill, that why its banned.
Modern is a turn 4 format. Dark Depths fits that bill, and is easily answered by land destruction and severalcommonremovalspells. You basically have to be running U or W to deal with Marit Lage himself, though.
The idea that you can tap out versus Delver and zap the bastard in response to the flip is VERY useful though. I agree however that Flesh would be good in the SB against mono red. You just can't lose that life and give them help.
You can't zap the Delver in response to the flip. You can only zap it in response to the peek ability going on the stack.
On topic, Wring Flesh is definitely better in UB than Gut Shot. If you are a control deck and can't actually pay the R every now and then, the 2 life is relevant enough to just play Wring. Besides, Wring kills everything Gut Shot does and is a better topdeck against Stromkirk Noble, Champion of the Parish, and flipped Delvers.
I have 6 open slots to fill with win-cons. I would like to fit in 3 Snapcaster Mages but that would reduce my win conditions to 3...how can I tweak my deck?
Olivia has been enough finisher for me. I run 3 of them and have not been disappointed yet. I also run a singleton Blue Sun's Zenith for inevitability. Devil's Play is also an option, and one that I keep ready in my sideboard.
EDIT: This is what I have been running, for reference.
I am considering cutting an Image and a Throat from the board for a pair of Surgical Extraction for the control mirror. I may also dump Stensia, but it is sweet when it gets going. Nephalia might be better, though. I am not sure. Stensia works better with Devil's Play and helps me with a slight weakness to walkers. I also want Negates somewhere in the board but cannot find room for the life of me.
I think curving out at 4-5 is what you want to do if you are playing Draw-Go, though. It makes it easier to play threats and protect them.
It seems like there are a couple routes you can take here:
Titan Control. This is focused more on permanents to maximize Sun Titan's value, and can definitely grind out the card advantage with Titan + Beleren.
Superfriends. Usually with a splash of Red for Ajani Vengeant, using Elspeth's token production to win games.
I'm going to cook up lists for both and see where I get. Both decks seem promising, though I am more familiar with Titan Control (I played the fire out of that deck when it was in T2). I also think a Gifts shell could have potential, but I am not sure.
I'm not a fan of necrogenisis it is a little too slow and doesn't quite do enough. I am also not a big fan of knight in this deck because creatures die too easily when you only have 1 threat lol. My favorite way to win is worm harvest.
Necro is really good in the mirror. Invalidates Snapcaster for 2 mana.
Yup, that green splash is interesting a Garruk + a green de-enchantment/artifact spell. Though it can find big creature card like grave titan or consecrated sphinx, I just dont know if a single green splash will still accommodate a Drownyard beyond Ghost Quarter.
If you choose to run Beast Within, you can disregard Ghost Quarter entirely. Moorland Haunt is answered by Nihil Spellbomb, Kessig can be answered with removal.
I think trying to shove Primeval Titan into this deck is the wrong idea. If you splash Green, it should only be for Garruk and Naturalize. I don't know if Beast Within is necessary. It deals with Walkers, but you can simply use counterspells for that.
No way. Bribery is the one card that kept Emrakul in check when she was legal. Bribery is a beast of a card because it makes every single creature in your deck a liability... that's why it is the answer NOT the problem.
Disagree. It introduces the fear of playing powerful creatures into deckbuilding. It is never fun to have Bribery played against you, nor remotely interesting, and it has never been fun to cast Bribery, either. When Kokusho was legal, you always targeted the Black player. Emrakul was legal, you targeted random player X. Right now, you always target the Green player or the Blue player. It stagnates the game, and it is not welcome in most casual groups I play with. The key word might be casual here, though.
Yes, splashing black opens up for so much more possibilities. You can minimize the amount of Oblivion Rings, gain more spot removal like Doom Blade/Go for the Throat/full-cast Dismember, flashback alchemy for late-game filtering...You can even use Grave Titan as a finisher.
I think the Instant-speed removal and Flashback on Alchemy are all you really care for. You could get cute and splash a singleton Unburial Rites, though, just for the possibility of making Elesh Norn a permanent Day of Judgment on turn 4.
The biggest problem I see this deck having is Inkmoth. You are running Ghost Quarter to mitigate the problem, but this just 2-for-1s yourself. Why not just run Black so you have Instant-speed removal?
If it had flash it would actually be worth the 6 mana.
No, it would be broken. Sphinx is well above the curve where he already sits.
I think not running Elesh Norn and Forbidden Alchemy is an incredible disservice to the deck, though. Elesh Norn is often 7 mana win the game in this format, and Alchemy offers the best dig.
I just don't see a compelling reason to play UW over UWb right now.
She's not a wish target, she's just a standard sideboard card. I only find her good as a singleton and only good against certain decks, so she's sideboarded.
