The End of an Era

I only use artifact creatures in my tempered steel build, but in my GW Quest, combined with ornithopter, memnite, signal pest, squadron hawk, and kor skyfisher, that was quite the flying army and glint hawk was the most efficiently costed of all of them. I actually won twice as many games with flyers than I ever did popping the quest off. When you have 0 cost artifacts, think of him as a white goblin guide with flying instead of haste and you don't have to give them lands.

In his build, with 4 memnite, 4 ornithopters, and 3 opals, that's 11 cards that make the glint hawk an amazing 1 drop. If Mox Opal is Active, you can use the opal to cast the hawk, bounce the opal, and replay it effectively making the glint hawk free. It can also be used to reset a revoker if you need to shut off something other than what you first named.

I've been considering mb revokers myself. They would replace legionaires in my build if I went for it.

Revokers are amazing for me. It's sometimes hard figuring out what to call when you're not sure what you're up against, but leading with a discard spell helps tremendously and it can single handedly shut down splinter twin until they take care of it by naming deciever exarch so it can't use the ability given to it by splinter twin. It's also one of the main reasons I was able to roll over caw blade naming swords, stoneforge mystic, and Jace. Every deck I played against last night had a target as even the version of Valakut I played ended up having Garruk in there.

I played my Tempered Tezzeret build last night at FNM and went 4-1 in the swiss, won round 1 against red deck handily, lost to Mana Screw against a red deck round 2, , beat Caw Blade with Emeria round 3, beat Valakut round 4, then got paired against an undefeated caw blade player who's top 16ed-32ed 2 GPs recently, he wanted to play, beat him too. Won my top 8 match against Grixis Twin, but then I lost to a homebrew RB deck playing Manic Vandal and a bunch of other creatures with built in 2 for 1s in the main along with about 10 sweepers post board. I destroyed him game 1, but then I dropped 2 memnites, an opal, land, Vault Skirge and Hex Parasite into his turn 2 Pyroclasm when I would have had Tempered Steel out turn 2. He'd already shown black sun game 1 and I'd seen him play Consume the Meek in an earlier match I was watching so the Pyroclasm was unexpected even though I said "Into your Pyroclasm" before passing. Game 3, he black suned on turn 3 and even when I played Tempered Steel turn 4, he had too many Manic Vandals and Skinrenders and managed to keep my board clear while attacking through. I kept my 4 inquisition and brought in 3 Duress +2 Celestial Purge, but never saw them and his sweepers were too much.

    The list I ran was

    4 Memnite
    4 Hex Parasite
    4 Vault Skirge
    4 Phyrexian Revoker
    4 Steel Overseer
    4 Porcelain Legionaire

    4 Inquisition of Kozilek
    2 Dispatch
    4 Tempered Steel
    4 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas

    4 Mox Opal
    4 Seachrome Coast
    4 Darkslick Shores
    4 Marsh Flats
    3 Swamp
    3 Plains

    Sideboard
    4 Duress
    1 Despise
    2 Dispatch
    3 Surgical Extraction
    3 Divine Offering
    2 Celestial Purge

I think I want to cut Porcelain Legionnaire for Glint Hawk Idol. Flying and immune to sorcery speed sweepers just seem better and the legionnaire was underwhelming, especially against Spikeshot Elder which 2 of my opponents played.
Surgigal extraction is going to become 2 more Celestial Purge and another Despise. I think Dispatch is going to become 2 Go for the Throat main and 2 Doom Blade in the board. Another change I've thought of is Memnite for Ornithopter as you need to be able to block swords on a bird better and Glint Hawk won't fit that bill very well. Even though I won both of my Caw Blade match ups, there's a lot of it here usually.
I'd like to know what you guys think.

Basicly GW Aggro, there have been quite a few people running this build. Where I don't like it in the quest version, Birds of Paradise is very good in this one as is Mirran Crusader. Some people run Llanowar Elf on top of birds and Student of Warfare is another popular 1 drop. I see no reason at all for a 3rd Batterskull as it's not very good without a shaman to bring it into play and I only run 1. I also don't know if you need Day in the main as at least with my quest version, I usually crush most other aggro decks. I also think you may want to try out Thrun. Having a couple 1 of tutor targets is usually pretty good, I like Baneslayer and Linvala. I have been wanting to try it out without quests, but have been so successful with them that I haven't brought myself to play it without them.

The funny thing is, the reason I love the quest version isn't because of the quest, it's because the Memnites, Glint Hawks, Kor Skyfisher's, and Signal Pests give it a very fast flying clock that usually ends up winning most of my matches for me although degenerate vengevine hands help as well. Quest doesn't seem to happen that often for me, but people concentrate on hating on that part of the deck and then they just get beat down with an army of fliers. I also run 2 Contested Warzone in that over Stirring Wildwood.

I had the same idea. I don't run the M11 lands in this, just the scars, fetches, basics, and 4 opals. Also, Preordain to help smooth out the draws. I was thinking Inquisition in the main over dispatch just because it's more versatile and this should be aggressive enough and fast enough that Dispatch shouldn't be necessary most of the time. Definitely worth a spot in the board though.

what happened to the days of casting a 2/2 and attacking... lol

It's done at pretty much every standard tournament, just usually on turn 1.

It has to be Green Red because those are the eldrazi spawn colors. Anything else will dilute it too much. It's got the potential to have completely degenerate draws, but it's even better because you can wait for them to attack you and then play it to block and kill their attackers. Furnace Celebration is also nuts with eldrazi spawn, but was really just a cute trick before because there wasn't enough to go with it, but this should be consistent and should be degenerate. The only feasible answers are ratchet bomb and slagstorm.

    4 Birds of Paradise
    4 Llanowar Elf
    4 Nest Invader
    4 Kozilek's Preadator
    4 Emrakul's Hatcher

    4 Spawning Breath
    4 Brood Birthing
    4 Awakening Zone
    3 Furnace Celebration
    4 Fresh Meat

    4 Copperline Gorge
    4 Roobound Crag
    3 Contested Warzone
    5 Forest
    5 Mountain

Birds doesn't seem too horrible, but I might cut a couple lands if I were running them. I've only played the deck at 1 FNM, but Shaman was very helpful, searching up the creature I needed to pop my quest a few times and even my 2 of vengevine won me a game where my armors got killed.

I tested out a G/W version of this at FNM last friday instead of my normal elves build just to try something different.

    4 Memnite
    4 Ornithopter
    4 Glint Hawk
    4 Squadron Hawk
    4 Fauna Shaman
    2 Vengvine
    1 Steel Overseer
    1 Sylvok Replica

4 Quest for the Holy Relic
    4 Glint Hawk Idol
    4 Tempered Steel
    2 Argentum Armor
    2 Mox Opal

    4 Sunpetal Grove
    4 Razorverge Thicket
    4 Forest
    8 Plains

I did really well, but had some trouble with the mana base. It seems like there should be enough artifacts to make the opals work, but they were inconsistent. I think I'd rather just run 2 lands next time. Tempered steel was an allstar in the deck, especially with Glint Hawk Idol. Even though the idol doesn't trigger the quest, I've found it's harder for your opponent to deal with, especially with a tempered steel out. Squadron Hawk also was amazing in the deck.
