I'm currently running largely original printings, but interested in replacing some with their (new) retro counterparts. I've heard there's quite a bit of variation in the foiling for these, with some having the art, textbox, name, etc foiled. Have any of you managed to get your hands on cards with only the borders foiled like they were pre-eighth edition?
That aside, which cards do you feel look much better in the old border than the new?
This is true. For MH2 anyway. If it came from SBB (set booster box), it will have the border only foiling, which IMO, is cleaner and more akin to the old pre-8th edition foils. If it came from CBB (collector booster box), the foil sheen will be on the whole card, which for me, looks a little sloppy.
Suspending Rift Bolt on Turn 2 before casting it turn 3 is cool. A Turn 2 play after fireblast would be risky as hell but kind of stylish. Bolt and Chain are pretty decent and either browbeat or Brimstone Volley could theoretically get this card out on turn 4 (if you're using either card), as does a turn 3 sulfuric Vortex.
Ultimately, though, I don't think that most cubes use enough burn to the face for this care to be worth testing.
Sulfuric Vortex doesn't work because it damages on each player's upkeep. So on your turn, you're the one damaged and not the opponent.
I still play Expedition Map. More than being a possible critter fetcher (Mishra's Factory, Inkmoth, and Blinkmoth), it can get you specialized lands like Cavern of Souls or Hall of the Bandit Lord, which could easily win you the game in a given scenario. I think the flexibility of the options it gives you makes it a worthwhile card in the deck.

Or if the Vecna card is actually playable.
Waaah. Just when I bit the bullet and bought a Quivertime to fit my 450cube + 150 basics.
Please make an exception for this one. Set is fire.
Survival of the Fittest?

No chance for it to get back in?

Harder to break in Cube than in Constructed, but definitely worth a look.
Thoughts on this? Compares favorably to Keldon Marauders, despite having 1 less toughness.
