  • posted a message on Song Title Word Association
    Ok, for all the other lovers of music games out there (with a little wordplay thrown in for good measure)... welcome to Song Title Word Association!

    The idea is this... we start with a song title, say "Shine on Your Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd"

    The next person picks a word in the SONG TITLE only to associate with another song title. ex: "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - The Beatles"

    use exact words only, not modifications (excepting plurals). use only "major" words for association (no articles.. a/an/and/the/is/etc...)

    and it continues until we hit a dead end. everyone got it?

    no repeats until we start over after being stumped. although songs with the same title (but which are in actuality completely different songs... not just covers) count.

    ok.. ready, set, go!

  • posted a message on [GP] black card with "haunt"
    If it's only on Sorceries/Instants:

    Haunt (When this spell resolves, you may attach this card to target creature.)

    Haunt is a triggered (static?) ability on Sorceries and Instants. "Haunt" means "When this spell resolves, you may attach this card to target creature." This card "haunts" that creature, and that creature is considered "haunted".

    If it's also on Creatures:

    Haunt (When this spell resolves or goes to the graveyard from play, you may attach this card to target creature.)

    Pretty much same as above, except it allows creatures to haunt others when they die. (The card would be attached to the target creature, similar to the way Auras are attached, or Equipment is attached.) The keyword is basically uselss by itself and just creates a state that can be referred to (on the same card with the keyword, or on other cards).

    Examples:

    Haunting Discard black mana
    Sorcery
    Target player discards a card.
    Haunt
    When the creature this card haunts goes to a graveyard from play, target player discards a card.

    Haunting Soulsuck :2mana::symb:
    Sorcery
    Target player loses 2 life and you gain 2 life.
    Haunt
    When the creature this card haunts is dealt combat damage, target player loses 2 life and you gain 2 life.

    Haunting Activated Pinger :1mana::symb:
    Instant
    Deal 1 damage to target creature.
    Haunt
    When the creature this card haunts deals combat damage to a player, you may pay :1mana::symb:. If you do, deal 1 damage to target creature.

    Haunting Spirit Assassin :3mana::symb:
    Creature Spirit Assassin
    :symtap::Destroy target haunted creature.
    Haunt
    When the creature this card haunts becomes tapped, you may destroy target haunted creature.
    1/1

    Haunting Foul Imp :2mana::symb:
    Creature Foul Imp
    When Haunting Foul Imp comes into play, choose one - All creatures get -1/-1 until end of turn, or Target creature gets -3/-3 until end of turn.
    Haunt
    Haunted creature gets -2/-2.
    1/2

    Haunting Revelations :2mana::symu:
    Instant
    Draw a card for each card haunting target creature.

    Haunting Spritburn :2mana::symr::symr:
    Sorcery
    As an additional cost to play Haunting Spiritburn, unattach target card you control that is haunting an opponent's creature.
    Haunting Spiritburn deals damage to target creature or player equal to it's converted mana cost.

    etc... you get the idea... although i seriously doubt there will be any activated Haunt abilities... i'm assuming they will all be triggered.

    but the possibilities are endless.

    thoughts?

    Has anyone noticed this yet (from the Comp Rules)?

    502.45d Auras with the “enchant player” ability can target and be attached to players. Such Auras can’t target permanents and can’t be attached to permanents.

    The new Enchant keyword opens up a hecka lotta possibilities... Enchant player, Enchant game (which could enable Enchant Worlds to make a comeback)

    This is sooo cool:) heh

    Lots of good ideas on here, and some... well... a bit tired.

    I submitted "Beguiling Quintessence". I think it fits both the artwork, and the mechanic.

    Beguiling:
    1. To deceive by guile; delude.
    2. To take away from by or as if by guile; cheat
    3. To distract the attention of; divert
    4. To pass (time) pleasantly.
    5. To amuse or charm; delight.

    Quintessence:
    1. The pure, highly concentrated essence of a thing.
    2. The purest or most typical instance
    3. In ancient and medieval philosophy, the fifth and highest essence after the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water, thought to be the substance of the heavenly bodies and latent in all things.

    Plus, I think it has a bit more originality and flair than some of the throwbacks to older cards. Who says all cards that remove a creature then return then should be flickering or astral? Not that I begrudge those ideas, but I think the terminology of the game should be as evolving and fluid as the game itself.

    Just my 0.02

    given that descendant appears 6 times, and we know that descendant of kiyomaro references itself (and assuming any other descendants will as well) that means there are only 3 descendants.

    and given the number of times each 'maro appears (at least the ones we know)..

    kiyomaro = 6
    soramaro = 3
    kagemaro = 3
    masumaro = 5
    othermaro = 5/6? i would assume this... each 'maro uses it's own name 3-4 times, and the descendants use it twice.

    therefore i would assume that there are only 3 descendants of maro... White/Red/Green

    note that kagemaro's appears once, as noted above, but soramaro's does not appear...nor do any other possessive instances of the 'maros we know.

    look like Black and Blue don't have any future bloodlines...hmmm:) interesting..heh

    Has anyone noticed that the flippers from creatures to global enchantments (assuming they're all global) are VERY similar to licids (yes, i said the dreaded word).... makes ya think that they COULD bring back functional licids that start as creatures then flip to a creature enchantment, then could flip back or some such nonsense.... very kewl stuff though.... me likes!

    Has anyone considered that WOTC would actually reprint some of these "classic" cards to simply make formats other than Limited and Standard more widely accessible to newer players. With their announced (i think i remember reading this) support of Vintage, Legacy, etc.... and the upcoming rotation of Extended it make sense in the long-term health of the GAME (not the collectors) to reprint staple cards that are highly sought after... if you lower the initial cost of "breaking into" a new format...you will get more players, who will eventually further bolster the secondary market and the new as well. I think after the horror that was Raffinity...they lost a LOT of the newer, younger players b/c as we all know, if you weren't playing Raffinity.... you were trying to fight it. Very little room for creativity. Very little room for fun. But unless you had all these older cards, or were willing to shell out big bucks to get them.... Standard/Limited was/is the only option you have. I'm sure someone has statistics on it, but Standard is THE MOST Played (offline) environment, with Limited & Extended alternating for 2nd/3rd depending on the most recent block. What better way to provide MORE OPTIONS to your players in case something like Raffinity creeps into Limited/Standard again? Give them the cards they need to explore other formats, keep them playing. If they play it, they will buy.

    'nuff said.

    Based on the Orb results, I would say that Sweep is templated as such:

    Sweep (When you play this spell, you may return X lands you control to their owner's hand.)
    Target player discards X cards.
    Target player draws X cards.
    Target creature gets +X/+X until end of turn.

    etc...

    I agree that this block has been over-ripe with keywords, but hey, i love it!! I still stand firm on my assertation that Epic will be some sort of supertype for Sorceries and Instants... and while I realy like your idea of channel, the Orb says there are 0 instances of additional... so I don't see how they could manage it that way. I see the keywords of this block being Channel and Shinen, with a heavy empasis on hand-size (wisdom non-keyworded).

    Time will tell I suppose.... madly craving spoiler tidbits here!

    rather = 0, instead = 0... so i'll stick with my channel guess at paying life=gettin mana as a side-effect of casting a spell

  • posted a message on [SOK] Mechanics: Epic and Wisdom
    well based on "without" only appearing 5 times, that pretty much kills channel taking the place of paying a spell's mana cost... how about this?

    Channel (When you play this spell you may pay X life. If you do, add X mana of any one color to your mana pool.)

    you play the spell, then as a side-effect you can exchange life for mana?
