Sep 2, 2013Mockingbird posted a message on [Casual] TogYou should do a search for cards with "Madness." You get to cast them when they are discarded from your hand for either a reduced cost or a higher cost with a bonus effect.Posted in: areostatico Blog

Mar 2, 2013Mockingbird posted a message on Mono Green ControlSundering Titan is banned in Commander. If you don't want to take him out, just throw everything to the wall and go for Primeval Titan and Emrakul, the aeons Torn.Posted in: Crossbonesx11 Blog
On a more serious note, Karn Liberated and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre are probably two of the best colorless control cards, which you will need because Iona is not your friend. And Garruk (take your pick) gives green a lot of options on top of being just that good. -
Jan 25, 2013Mockingbird posted a message on Post Gatecrash - 5 Color RitesAngel of Serenity is your friend. I don't think you should be running less than 3 because by the end of the game, Angel of Serenity can retrieve the reanimation targets and you can just Hard cast them instead.I'd say cut the Restoration Angel and... probably the Obzedat, Ghost Council for them. Also, Angel of Serenity infinite loops by choosing another Angel of Serenity as one of the targets.Posted in: Kyon Dark Blog

Dec 3, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on Nic FitI'm curious why you don't play WBG version because you get Sun Titan reanimation tricks, Swords to Plowshares type removal, Academy Rector, and Oblivion Ring (see Sun Titan for why I mention it).Posted in: Raggedjoe Blog

Sep 19, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on RIP Prime TimeActually, the blue mages around my area loved Primeval Titan because Clone and variants, Mind Control and variants, and if they splashed black, Reanimate and variants.Posted in: Prophet's Decks
And I will admit that I will greatly miss putting Lightning Greaves on a Titan and swinging so that I had Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Cabal Coffers, Kessig Wolf-Run, and Inkmoth Nexus all cued up to combo out and swing 15-46 poison in the air next turn. And Heaven help those that I kicked Rite of Replication against. -
Sep 18, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on [Pauper][EDH] Colorless Insanity with Plague MyrIf I remember correctly, some pauper EDHC circles allow you to break the pauper rule solely to have a viable commander, but those rules work as well.Posted in: Magic Between Walls (Cube, EDH, Type 4, Pauper)

Jul 26, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on Sliver EDHRule of thumb with Sliver EDH is Sliver Overlord is the go to sliver general because he's a neverending tutor-out-every-other-Sliver-you-will-ever-need (including Sliver Legion).Posted in: MorrainTheCorruptor Blog
I would also think you'd want some kind of board wipe like Wrath of God/Damnation/Obliterate/etc. to bring the board under control if something were to go awry.
Also, non-slivers worth considering is the Mythic Titans (I played them in my Sliver EDHC when I played them)... or at least Sun Titan because he retrieves fallen Slivers and Primeval Titan because Primeval Titan makes enough mana to never have mana problems again.
Also, I would think you would absolutely want Harmonic Sliver and Mycosynth Lattice together because Lattice makes all permanents artifacts in addition to other types, meaning that you could wipe an entire enemy board with Harmonic Sliver and his friends because their permanents are now artifacts regardless.
But it's an interesting start, I hope it works wonders for you. -
Jul 1, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on Teneb, the HarvesterIf you want, you can splash in land destruction to get maximum hatred with Teneb. Let me give an example of what someone did to me.Posted in: Nodrog Blog
My opponent Mortify-ed my Primeval Titan. Then revived it with Teneb. They didn't trigger the land searched though because he then Armageddoned... I scooped. -
Feb 18, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on Knowledge Pool lockCould you explain the lock to me. I've heard of it once in a passing conversation, but I didn't catch how the set up works to keep your opponent from casting.Posted in: Babam Blog

Feb 13, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on The Devil You Don't - Elbrus, the Binding BladeJust thought you should know, if you play this deck in an official capacity, Elbrus has been ruled an illegitimate general by the official rules committee because the face-up side is not a creature. If your friends are cool with it, then cool.Posted in: DermoNONE Blog

Jan 23, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on Should I?I doubt Snapcaster Mage will be dropping anytime soon because Snapcaster is seeing play all the way back to Vintage. If anything, his price will likely go up gradually as he goes out of print.Posted in: dochalliday60 Blog
About Mental Misstep: no. If anything, you should try to trade for them with someone else at their true value. That way, if they go up, you can sell/trade for them for a value that is definitely more than you would have gotten them for. -
Jan 18, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on Currently Playing: Wolf Run RUG TitansI would suggest dropping Copperline Gorge because in a ramp deck with full out Rampant Growth, you're not going to get them consistently enough to enter the battlefield untapped. I'd think that dropping them for 3 Rootbound Crags and another Hinterland Harbor would be more consistent.Posted in: dwaynedu Blog

Jan 18, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on Currently Playing: Wolf Run RUG TitansI think that maxing out on Primeval Titan would be a good idea because you're always going to want at least one of him. But one thing I'm curious about is how do you think Dark Ascension will affect this list (I think we can talk about DKA on the blogs more freely).Posted in: dwaynedu Blog

Jan 8, 2012Mockingbird posted a message on On the Eve of the Next EraDOPE! You're right. I don't know how I could have forgotten Dredge. In Dredge, it's like Win then discard cards, then flashback to win again and discard two more cards.Posted in: Mockingbird Blog
Good grief, I've been out of the Magic loop longer than I thought. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
P.S. Yes, I specifically logged into my MTGS account after two years of being away to see if a thread honoring Betty White would also mention Galspanic. Their profile says they haven't posted since 2019, and I got to admit, I kind of got questions for them if they show up.
Yeah, nothing in the text specifies that the Island must be a "Basic Island." It's worded that way because whenever shocklands are legal, Wizards likes to throw them some kind of cool interaction that's all upsides, except fetchlands. They tried that only once in Standard and everyone agreed never again.
This card also reads so hard that they did not want it to becomes a commander staple outside its own tribe.
I laughed at this harder than I should have.
Cloudstone Curio specifies that it does not work with artifacts entering the battlefield. I've learned that the hard way when I found out in real time that Cloudstone nombos with Solemn Simulacrum.
These look interesting. The one that interests me the most is Korvold because he's the most flexible draw engine and is a decent enough a sac outlet.
Syr Gwyn, other than bringing me one step closer to believing the Kenriths are indeed like-but-legally-distinct-from-the Lannisters (you know which two), seems fine. I need to see how equipments and the knight tribe are balanced in this standard, because she can't be evaluated in a vacuum with how she works.
Alela concerns me. Not because she's bad, but because Esper Hero is a grindfest, and now they got another token generator for their midrange strategies. I'd have to see the cards that are going to probably get added into the deck, but she doesn't look as good as Hero of Prescient One... yet. Also, it's neat that they've added Warlock as a creature type. D&D references are fun.
Like, maybe we see Emrakul again one day because the story demands it, but through and through, the Eldrazi tribe as a whole has nothing but bad publicity behind them because they were a problem in of themselves or helped push an existing problem over the top. And this is coming from a guy who’s favorite tribe is the Eldrazi.
Looting will go great with Bond of Revival strategies.
Boosting a creature with First Strike and Trample is... helpful. That seems useful for strategies that want to make chumping to save planeswalkers a lot harder. Golos, Tireless Pilgrim Field of the Dead decks come to mind. The good thing is that it is also a plus.
The ultimate... is a neat ultimate. Good luck getting it off.
Yeah, Narset, Parter of Veils is going to be huge thorn for this card, but Narset also hasn't stopped Hydroid Krasis. Honestly, I'll have to see what Planeswalker removal looks like post rotation because playing around Narset may not be that big of a setback if players figure out how to navigate her and Wizards gives us decent tools to do so.
A Food Token is an artifact with 2, T, sacrifice this token: gain 3 life.
That said, it's nice to know what a Food Token does. The cards themselves seem fine. Golden Goose is a much worse Birds of Paradise, but depending on how Food Tokens pan out, it will be functional for the Format since Llanowar Elves is rotating.
The Fey are tricksters and do whatever they want. If he's templated after Dungeons and Dragons' Fey, he'll probably be more of a malicious prankster than just straight up evil. It'll also give him room to have more anti-hero moments if Wizards doesn't want to make him a villain through and through.
The best red cards right now that aren't rotating are Chandra, Awakened Inferno, Experimental Frenzy, Tibalt, Rakish Instigator, Chandra, Acolyte of Flame, Runaway Steam-Kin, Legion Warboss, Light Up the Stage, Chandra, Fire Artisan, and Fry are seeing regular play. I'm not sure if any these would really spike, spike, but this is at least a starting list of things to watch.
After all, who doesn't think that T1 Mana Crypt, Dark Ritual, this card, Doomsday, some black cantrip card that functions as Gitaxian Probe, Cruel Bargain, Sacrifice the K'rrik, Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Viscera Seer, and Walking Ballista to KO a game isn't healthy for a format. I don't have time to play a four hour game of Magic, the Gathering. Magic that goes on that long isn't healthy, and I need to go grocery shopping.
(Also, I didn't create this Doomsday pile; it's from Reddit).
