I have a feeling it might be Traps. The latest email teaser, if it wasn't a dead giveaway or a sleek distraction, sort of hints at Traps being the "popular mechanic" being remade. Attached for reference and highlighted by my own effort.
But overall I didn't think Traps were that popular, at least not compared to, say, Landfall and Quests.
WWelp for the remade mechanics (popular) in '09 we have to work with:
- Cascade
- Quests
- Landfall
Imma go with a twist on Quests or maybe a modified Landfall. They could do something with one of those three but quests and maybe landfall appear to be the core culprits.
All I care about is seeing cards referring to or representing Captain Lannery Storm.
Basic landcycling too.
While I'm sure Diamond Pick-axe is not actually a Minecraft tie-in, it's hard not to think that.
Basic landcycling (for the most part) originated in Scourge, but the mechanic itself as you stated could be it. Is it rather new though? It's a rehash of an existing mechanic already.
And I was thinking Pacifism too, but that's been around for longer than 20 years and started seeing reprint in Tempest.

So I guess Kellan is going to be our protagonist for this part of the latest arc?
I wonder why they took so long to reveal the expansion symbol...
Huatli looks pissed she lost her spark. Maybe the omenpaths will open up and let her travel to wherever Saheeli is...
I have the feeling that Kellan would be the silver thread going through the whole omenpath arc
But you know what though? That's actually quite cool. It's taking us back to the days of when non-walkers a la Gerrardetalwerethecentralprotagonists and the actual planeswalkers played a secondary or tertiary role.
Maybe What-See learned their lesson and started to tone down the overabundance of planeswalkers and reverting that role to the actual player.
So here's something I've been wondering for a while. How long has it been in canon since the events of like... Zendikar 1? I keep waiting for characters to visibly age. Sure, Nahiri and Sorin and Liliana and Karn are eternal, ageless beings. But why is Chandra still like 24? At least the Kenrith sibs did seem to grow up a bit in their latest representation.
When you produce 500 jillion products there are bound to be leaks all over the place.
Less product or improve your "bucket" to hold back the leaks.
Which is why I'm stepping away from this for a while. I have to deal with heightened interest rates and other expenses that eat up most of my disposable income. I still follow along but just have no emotional or financial patience to get involved with it at this time.
Love how they're bringing back older mechanics that were considered "retired" like Conspire.
You ought to check out how the draft pick order appears on Draftsim. Basically the majority of the Enchanting Tales cards are considered top picks, save for a few outliers, while most commons and uncommons are more playable than the rares and mythics in the set. I don't think I've seen that before even with Strixhaven!
*wrings brain in agony*

They took cues from the Simpsons.
