So, I've been playing Mono U Tron for a long time and I have to ask . . . do you guys ever actually board in Aetherize? I think I only bring it in in the Zoo matchups where I'm probably dead before I have 4 mana anyway and against Merfolk where it's done some work. No other matchups really make me want it. Against Bogle and Infect there are much better cards and there just aren't many decks that go wide in the format nowadays.
Not sure if it's legacy but dark petition is at $5.74 TCG Mid as of this writing with the lower priced sellers having little quantity available. Not sure what it means since petition is such a recent card I don't see the price really going up especially if people become aware of the new price and bring them out of storage.
is there any value with dromoka's command in modern?
not sure why its fallen so much....is it because of eldrazi taking over?
i made a thread w/ wilt leaf liege as well
all these great cards getting no love!
Abzan, that is Abzan built like Jund and not the current Abzan Company, can't compete with the Eldrazi menace. Dromoka's Command was good when there were enchantments you cared about destroying (Splinter Twin). Now it doesn't really have a place in the meta. Same for Wilt-Leaf Liege. Everyone's favorite Selesnya Lord was good against opposing Jund decks, but no one is trying to make you discard it anymore.
I recently retired Mono-U Tron and got bored of Affinity, so I've been looking into playing a UB Tezzerator list. I've so far tested only against Eldrazi and Affinity with my mainboard 60 and like the list where it is right now. Haven't decided on sideboard as of yet and will be doing a lot of testing tomorrow and Friday before a GPT on Saturday. Here's what I'm working with...
In fact, I haven't lost against Affinity in my limited testing so far. I've given thought to Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, Liliana of the Veil, Simian Spirit Guide, and a few others. The card I've liked the least in testing is Chalice of the Void but, again, the majority of my testing is against Robots and Eldrazi. Any thoughts, recommendations, or praise?
After the Pro Tour, there's been a large influx of Affinity players. Spellskite hedges against the mirror, as well as provides good defense against whatever Wild Nacatl decks may be lurking around and soaks of Drowner of Hope activations against UR Eldrazi. Plus it's a free win against Bogle and Infect.
But he stops Karn while providing a 2/2 body within your colors, which Pithing Needle does not do. He also acts as splash hate against several other cards and decks in the format. Don't count him out because he isn't a one-card answer to everything in the format. I think $25 is more than fair for a Lorwyn rare that sees play in Commander, Modern, and Tiny Leaders. I see he's at $40 TCG Mid right now, which is a bit far fetched and obviously the result of a buyout, but I think him settling at a bit below $30 would be appropriate for his rarity and ability.
Did Gaddock Teeg just get hit by a buyout? It's 69.99 on TCGPlayer with only 2 listings left. Which is stupid because it's still like €5 on MKM with plenty of units.
Keep rising, my little Kithkin.
I think it's a buyout too, probably the buyer is hoping Stoneforge gets unbanned. Why? Maybe because a Stoneforge unbanning in Modern might make D&T Tier 1.
Cue Thalia buyout
I think it's more that with the popularity of Tron, Gaddock Teeg gets a lot better. GW Hatebears isn't a no-name deck in Modern. It has seen some minor success and Gaddock Teeg shuts down Tron pretty hard.
I absolutely love Chalice in Game 1. My only issue with it so far is that occasionally I find myself in a grind scenario and I really need to land my Map to get Ghost Quarter to take car of a Creeping Tar Pit or Academy Ruins to present a lock. And in those times I really wish I could repeal my own Chalice, but I can't do that either Otherwise, Chalice has been fantastic all around and I'm playing 1 Main and 2 Board.
I imagine Ancient Stirrings works much like playing Steelshaper's Gift: You want a bomb and you want it now. It's just a matter of consistency. The benefit of Thoughtcast is that it costs U so you can use your Island to cast it, same as Master of Etherium or Stubborn Denial. That being said, single colored mana in the deck isn't a problem and we already play some number of Ancient Grudge that wants G. I say try it out, see if it works for you. It's an interesting thought, and helps you dig more for that bomb while being less specific than Steelshaper's Gift.
Stubborn Denial could work, thank you for the suggestion Backno. I'll try it out, I'm already running only 2 Galvanic Blast due to the low number of creature based decks in my local meta.
Playing 3x Blood Moon maindeck seems like it would really dilute the strategy, no? Maybe in place of Steel Overseer, I guess... Likewise, Crumble to Dust seems expensive. I do like possibly running a Ghost Quarter, though? And yes, my local meta really is between 33-40% Tron. On a given Monday we have 16-24 Modern players and 5 of them are always on Tron and sometimes another few show up. So every week has at least 5 RG Tron players and a chance for 1-2 more and a Mono U Tron player. I basically stopped playing my Mono U Tron list because I was tired of all the pseudo mirror matches. But Affinity isn't exactly a great matchup either, so...
I've gotten some really good advice here and I think I'll take the time to piece it out and sell the cards individually. I'd of course love to sell it as a whole, but I think that's a) not feasible and b) I would have to take a large hit in value for selling it as a collection. At least piece-wise I can move the lower value cards to other Cube players who may have difficulty finding them (stuff like foil Call of the Herd). Thank you all for the suggestions and your time. Keep an eye out if you're looking for anything like EDH staple foils ;-)
Thank you guys for the condolences. Unfortunately, it's one of those things where school has to come first. I certainly will look into piecing it out, then, and hopefully moving some of the more interesting cards to Cube players here on the forums. In the future I'd like to throw together a Peasant Cube, though it will pale in comparison to my current one.
I've recently come to the conclusion that I'll have to sell my Cube to pay for my last semester of undergrad and am looking for a good outlet. I've considered the High End Magic group on Facebook as well as eBay, but I'm not really sure it's feasible to sell as an entire entity. Is it even possible that someone would be interested in buying the Cube as a single purchase or is my best bet to piece it out and sell the major pieces off one by one?
Dark Petition increase is because of Pro Tour Shadows over Innistrad. Brian Kibler was running a deck with Dark Petition, Seasons Past, and Nissa's Renewal.
