Going to tonight's Release event, so I should have 6 packs this evening. Is it sufficient if I vertically stack the cards and take a picture of just the card names?

Sure, that'll be fine I guess, though I *would* prefer if they're sent in a list.

Also -- keep the packs coming! I got a few PMs pretty quickly over the weekend and they magically stopped coming in. I'm sure more than 3 of your won packs that you cracked open :).

I've primarily done 8-4s the last few years and had my ups and downs, but even playing those regularly it's difficult to 'go infinite' unless you really nail a format down. And then, if you're behind the curve on a format, 8-4s can just tear you up.

I'm actually considering 'regressing' down to Swiss for M13 and RTR as my format of choice, and will move on to 8-4s if I start to get a good grasp of them.

Yeah, it was kind of the entire idea behind Coldsnap Limited. Being in the pod with the guy who ends up with 8 Surging Dementia was beyond unfun.

Mind Twist you for 2 on turn 2? Yeah.

There is no limit in Limited [haha] for the number of a certain card you can have.

Realistically though it's incredibly rare to even end up with 4 or more of any one card, and only happens when drafting triple small set. Getting 8 of a very strong common, even in triple small set drafts, is itself rare because it's a good common.

In sealed the most you can realistically get, foils aside, would be 6 assuming all the same set. With absurd luck you could get 12 copies of a premiere common in your sealed pool with each pack doubling that card as a foil.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that because MTGO lags behind on paper that the MTGO pre-release events actually mark when M13 is legal in MTGO contructed. 4-of rares and 1-off mythics that people want to fill out the latest/greatest brew or enhance an existing Standard deck WILL shell out serious tix to nab those playsets. You can make up the lost value on the upfront costs and poor payout with a couple rares that will be worth .5 tix in a couple weeks.

That being said, I avoid the pre-releases. I only really play limited, so I can wait a week if it means saving 6 tix and a better payout. Good rare/mythic prices are still a bit inflated at the beginning of release week as the MTGO population grows and increases the 'must have it now for the standard event in 45 minutes' demand.

So, no one caught the red squiggles under that word?

I understand it's a typo and **** happens. But it really shouldn't. Granted, they've made thousands of cards and in recent history I don't believe many true typos exist.

Someone in the editting team has a new hole.

The only speculation I'll jump on here is that the Simic guild may benefit from including Proliferate on its cards. I would agree that it works well with their Graft ability in Dissension.

However, I would be surprised if as a part of recapturing the flavor and awesomeness that was Ravnica they just borrow a mechanic from 2010.

4/4 is looking like a pretty nice body to have in M13, and at 5 mana with Vigilance and Reach makes it a terrifyingly good creature. Any sort of mana accel puts you in the driver seat for combat very quickly.

You don't want too many of them, though, for typical reasons for not wanting your 5 slot too packed.

I think this v. Prey Upon is indeed difficult. It's hard to come by a creature that does blocking and attacking duty very very well. At the same time, too. The splashable nature of Prey Upon doesn't seem to hold much value since the other colors probably would neither have a need for another trick, nor the ability to take advantage of it. I feel that in a dedicated green deck, Sentinel Spider will win more games than Prey Upon.

Spider also seems like a much stronger topdeck in a rather clear board. A more complicated stalemate would certainly make Prey Upon seem better though. I think that's what it comes down to for me. Not sure how many stalemates we can expect in M13.

Can we use MTGO as well?

Yes and no. The MTGO release date usually drags behind the paper release a couple weeks. People will being cracking physical packs this weekend, so chances are there will be at least 24 packs to work with before MTGO can grant us some packs.

In a future forum limited activity I would probably be able to just plunder the Draft Cap sub-forum for packs anyway :p.

Greetings my friends of the Limited forum.

As M13 is fast approaching in unwrappable and new-card smell form, I would like to ask that you take note of the pack contents, send them to me, and we can get a Forum draft going.

    Thanks!

After reading the judge's article, I'd really hope that the Judge's understanding of the Bonfire incident didn't have any role in giving your opponent the benefit of the doubt in the Huntmaster situation. (maybe I missed something, after a second read through it sounds like he learned of the Bonfire thing afterwards.)

Unfortunately it seems in both scenarios you were probably 'correctly' ruled, but your opponent's ethics are certainly something to be questioned.

I likely won't let it go without trying a draft or two there. Pretty damn good value.

I would have expected only the most confidant of players would join the 12-6s, but if you had that experience it may be worth jumping in try to get some sick value while I can.

  • posted a message on [AVR] How high a pick is Angel's Tomb?
I feel Naga's Shadow hit the nail on the head here -- it doesn't block (usually). I mean, if you're the straight aggressor then the 3/3 flier certain helps you get further ahead, but it seems that barring a fortunate draw vs. a subpar draw you're going to be in a situation where you will be blocking at some point, which has the Angel's Tomb sitting there.

Flicker tricks do play well with it, of course.

What made Glint Hawk Idol especially strong in SSS, BSS, and NBS was that if you didn't have an artifact to trigger it, you could just pay some mana to get him going (and, relaibly allow him to block). You end up exchanging a bit of power for less reliability, when it's reliability you want in this format at your 3-slot.

gargoyle castle saw some serious play and was way worse.imo. its a land that makes a dude somehow.it will be played in standard

The cards may function similarly but serve completely different purposes; so, I'd be hesitant to compare them. Gargoyle Castle is much more of a control deck's card, whereas Crucible would more likely fit in an aggro or midrange deck.

Crucible is not bad, but I still contend that it's underwhelming and they probably could have made it a bit better without making it absurd.

I really don't see it as a 4-of in any competitive level.

In Limited it's certainly strong; any land that can become a creature usually is worth a look regardless of what it costs to get there. This one's definitly a good one, though not a high pick for draft.

As for the thread's title, It's definitly not Bad and it's a very far cry from THE BADDEST.

  • posted a message on PC Gaming Dying? Dead? Where is this coming from?
I'm not really sure where the doomsaying is coming from, but the gaming market over the last several years has had to make way for simpler games like Facebook games (Farmville, etc.) or Tablet games (Angry Birds).

In addition to people wanting to spend money on a game and enjoy, it also takes up time. There's also the fact that people may intentionally limit themselves to how much gaming they do in a day. If they play 1 hour or so of Angry Birds that might be their limit.

Admittedly I don't have numbers to back this up, I'm just hypothesizing where someone might make an errant report of doom and gloom.

I wish we had some traditional fixing in Green to get real greedy, but here's my assessment of the colors:

white mana Deep on creatures but so much at 4+, with an asterisk on Serra Avenger. I think you could justify running white for the raw air power it presents.

blue mana Less exciting creatures, some spells, overall nothing too attractive. Could serve as a potent support color though.

black mana Ugh. The best two cards (Nighthawk and Murder) are really good, not splashable, and the quality kinda drops off after that. Bloodhunter Bat seems good (wow have we come a way since Highway Robber). Black is out.

red mana A little removal, some creatures, but nothing very strong. Maybe a support color, especially with....

green mana Very deep on cards that can just et you far ahead, and very efficient beaters. Definitly running green.

I would probably pair Green with Red for curve reasons, and consider Gem of Becoming to fetch lands to maybe splash something in blue or black.
