I'm now debating whether to make this or a Spellheart Chimera deck. I already have a nice chunk of it from last rotation's Gruul deck.

Also, I'm surprised nobody has suggested Mizzium Mortars as a way to get around Frostburn Weird. It's also good against other things with big butts, and you get potential for a Magical Christmasland in overloading it. Granted, it's not an instant and it doesn't go to the dome, but it will remove a Frostburn Weird by itself. In a deck with 27 creatures, it seems like you'll be using your burn spells as removal more often than not.

You just proved yourself wrong. Yes, Ancestral Recall was a rare, but Sol Ring, Demonic Tutor, and Swords to Plowshares were uncommon, Dark Ritual, Lightning Bolt were common, etc etc.
The point is that better did NOT equal rare. In the earlier days, there were tournament worthy commons and uncommons very often.

Nice strawman, btw. There is a pretty large gap between having all of the good cards bumped up in rarity and market crash, death of magic.

Did I prove myself wrong, really? All I said was that having good cards as rares, not all good cards but some, is good for the game. Considering the explosion in the game's popularity since Alara block, I'd say Wizards' sales figures prove you wrong.

This is the problem. Right here. The idea that better=rare. It was not always the case, but it sure is now. Glad I don't play standard.

It was not always the case? Then why was Ancestral Recall made into a rare while the rest of the Alpha boons were common? Rare equaling better in some instances is a fundamental part of the collectible card game genre. That doesn't mean common can't be good in some instances and rare can't be bad in some instances. It's all just the nature of the genre and if you don't feel like ensuring the future of the game is preferable to catering to whims and crashing the market, then you should probably find something else to play. There's a lot of gaming alternatives to Magic.

Yeah I just traded one as well towards a NM revised plateau. No way russian stormbreath is 50 nonfoil, I'd say 35 at most for russian nonfoil stormbreath since it isn't playable in any format except standard.

I'd say it's about as Modern playable as Thundermaw Hellkite. It makes up for being slightly smaller with pro-white and monstrosity, which both makes it a much more sizable threat and hates on Revelation.

i'm sure some of these stories are fake and some are true, but here's my question:

If you open a pack of all rares, why would you not pull out a video camera / cell phone / whatever before you open the next packs in the box? Wouldn't you want to document that somehow? I have trouble believing that this is as common as it must be to generate these responses and yet no one has any evidence at all.

    just sayin...

Keep in mind that video recording technology wasn't in everybody's pockets.

I've never personally encountered or met anybody who's encountered such a phenomenon, but the fact that this thread contains so many accounts of different incidents, but I know it happens. How else did we get Rootborn Defenses in a 2013 pack? The closest I've ever gotten to anything like this was a foil Mirran Crusader and a regular Mirran Crusader in the same pack.

Why is it then that when i buy 3 packs from walmart i always get duplicate rares? Walmart never fails you always get duplicate crap rares.

A former friend of mine "acquired" two M11 packs from Wal-Mart once. Two Baneslayer Angels. I've opened mostly crap from the packs I've impulse-bought at the Walgreen's next to my work, but I did open two Godless Shrines, and one of the packs that had one (it was DGM) also had a Ral Zarek.

I was really expecting this one to be Gideon Vs Domri Rade.

Isn't Jace vs Vraska essentially Izzet vs Golgari round 2?

Chances are Jace's deck will either be monoblue or white/blue.

On another note, I don't mind the new Jace art. It's Jace, Park Walker. What's not to love?

As much as I would personally love this, as it would make UG Madness a Modern-playable deck, it's never going to happen.

(BTW Ashiok is male, not female, at least this is what I've heard from those who have actually looked into it... Plus he looks like a dude to me anyway)
Whoever wrote the Fat Pack entry goofed up, Ashiok defies gender classifications.

In many ways, that's better than lightning bolt. At least lightning bolt can only kill 1 creature. That can kill up to 3 1 toughness ones.

The spell has only one target though, so it can still only hit one thing. That being said, I still don't think they'd print this card, as it's strictly better than Harm's Way. Maybe at rare?

As far as a properly-costed lifegaining spell goes, as long as mill, infect, and/or combos are a thing, don't expect to find one any time soon.

It's a cute trick, but a two card combo that only results in six damage isn't going to get there, especially when both cards involved are questionable in their viability.

Sooo, is this a Kiki-Pod deck without the Pod? Seems like removing the best card in the deck is a mistake, and you can't really splash for something that costs 2RRR. Theoretically, you could be playing Splinter Twin too, but it's a nonbo with Restoration Angel.

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing art of Elspeth and Ajani taking on a gigantic Xenagos with starry shadows. Somebody should link it. With that in mind, I think Xenagos as the RG god makes sense. As to why there's no black in him, I think Xenagos is going to be a good example of a red antagonist. He's seeking to ascend to godhood to get above the gods, not for the power itself but for the freedom it provides. Him being green is dictated by his mechanical nature. Tell me Xenagos couldn't be a monogreen planeswalker if you removed the capability to produce red mana. Green is tertiary in haste, and everything else is dead-on in color pie for green. The satyrs are red-green, and it makes sense that their "lord" would match those colors.

Capt. Nick: Where's the blue? Blue is mandatory for Kiki-Pod decks, as it gives you access to a lot of "oops, I win" Pod chains.

    What a meaningless statement.

Of course you can construct cardpools in which a card is playable. You can do it for any card.

You clearly have little idea of how this game works if you can't comprehend the meaning of my statement. Bestow cards' time probably won't come until RtR block rotates out and we're left with a slower environment.
