I'd guess Above and Beyond as the first card. I'm not sure about the other one we can make a reasonable guess at; perhaps Trial and Error as the Azorius uncommon?
It's also possible to guess at the rare cards, as I think I'm right in saying we know the guild combinations they must be. Taking a stab at that:
Izzet/Rakdos: Crash and Burn
Selesnya/Boros: Seek and Destroy
Dimir/Orzhov: Noughts and Crosses
Golgari/Gruul: Sound and Fury
I'd agree. I had this guy in two different prereleases and both times he was fantastic. He makes combat very difficult and the times that he wasn't making combat difficult, I was just throwing counters onto my Fathom Mage to draw more cards.
That said, I think that he will be not quite as useful in draft, since there will be less time to sit around and durdle than there is in your average sealed deck match.
It does remove design space, and honestly, I think this is one of those rules like "No instant speed card draw." or "You can't print on the back of cards." that will eventually go by the wayside, as soon as they have a good reason to do so. A single card is not a good enough reason, however.
In due time, the rule will fall victim to complexity creep. I'm pretty sure within the next 3-5 years we'll see a block that includes both of them in the same block.
One of the hardest things for amateur designers is having to live by the rules that R&D sets up and then watching R&D ignore their own rules.
1) We've been designing with that effect (opponent's creatures lose hexproof/shroud) for years. Nice to see it finally in print
2) Funny how the spotlight is designed after spotlights from Earth, circa 1980 to 2013 or so, complete with a spot for the lightbulb etc.... lol
3) When you get rid of it, why do your creatures gain hexproof?
You're shooting the light in the eyes of your opponent, of course.
WTH? I was wondering when a reliable way to beat Geist was coming, but not like this. I could have sworn MaRo said he hated card design like the one presented in this card.
I'm sure he does, but there's no elegant way to negate hexproof... apparently.
Terrible that they got themselves into a hole where a card like this is a thing.
Gideon will revert to a non-creature planeswalker, Rancor will go to your graveyard from not being on a legal target. Rancor's ability will trigger and return to your hand.
