Duty (when this creature attacks or blocks it gets +1/+1 for each other attacking or blocking creatures with duty)

I believe and hope that we'll get an ability that works even if you're only running a few cards with the mechanic in a deck, not one that requires you to run as many cards with the mechanic as possible for it to pay off at all (like infect, for instance). Scavenge, Overload, Detain and Unleash are all very splashable, and Populate still more so than Duty would be. I'd like to play a R/W mana deck and still be able to use Silverblade Paladin, Ash Zealot, Thalia etc.

I've read here on this forum that it's been said that Boros will be the most aggressive quild. Is there a source for this?

    Hello everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions for a W/R deck. I'm open for mostly any style; aggro, control, midrange, whatever works. I'm willing to splash a third colour, but only splash. My budget is decent, but I'm not very keen on Bonfire. People played R/W humans pre-rotation, is that still viable without Hero of Bladehold and Mirran Crusader?

What, no replies? I've always wanted to see a deck built around Glissa, the Traitor, so I'd love to see this turn into a deck. I'd say heavy equipment feels pretty green. Remember all those old +X/+X enchantments from back in the day? With a bit of green mana ramp, you can afford expensive equip costs, and boosting a big creature with trample is always fun.

How about Evolution Charm on Isochron Scepter to keep Glissa out of the graveyard (the flying part would be handy too), and Glissa to keep the scepter and all your powerful equipment out of the graveyard? You can get artifacts and creatures back with Nature's Spiral.

Then there's greens inherent ability to get rid of artifacts... Some green spells would reward you for destroying your own equipment, such as Crumble, but it doesn't seem very powerful unless you want to destroy it anyway for some other reason. Also, I guess having Arcbound Ravager on the table, sacrificing an artifact and getting the artifact back with Glissa would work, but it seems way too slow unless you get something more out of it.

  • posted a message on [Deck] Black no-block - help please
This is the deck I've been playing on MTGO for the last few months. It does alright, I usually win about 5-6 out of 7 games in Classic. I finally got around to buying it in paper cards, and I'm thinking about taking it to a small Legacy tournament in a few weeks, so we'll have to keep it Legacy legal - sorry guys, no Necropotence.

    The strategy

It's fast aggro. It's equipment based and relies heavily on evasion and lifelink. The best strategy when playing this deck is to attack early and regularly - if you can inflict more damage than the opponent and gain life with lifelink, you won't have to block.

The first few turns are important, and you should be able to get a decent attack in on turn 2. It's nice to drop Tormented Soul or Vault Skirge on turn 1 (or even better, Vampire Nighthawk with Dark Ritual), and then equip it with a Bonesplitter on turn 2 and attack.

The most devastating card is probably Lashwrithe. The land base is all swamps, so it gets big. Play it on turn four/five, don't be afraid to pay life to equip it on something hard to block, preferably something with lifelink, and attack.

Play Temporal Extortion before an attack you believe will deal some heavy damage and preferably give you some life back too. If the opponent pays half his life and you then attack, that's good. If the opponents refuses to pay the life, that's probably even better if you can add a Lashwrithe, Mirri or Bonesplitter to your attack the second turn.

    The build

With a peak CMC of four, 16 possible one drops, Dark Ritual for an aggressive start mana in the first rounds and Phyrexian Arena to burn through as much as the library as fast as possible, this deck is a one trick pony: Attack fast and keep it coming to overwhelm the opponent. I've left out removal/disruption/tutor spells to allow the deck do its thing faster and more reliable.

Cards to consider (main or sideboard)

Duress and similar spells could make it harder for the opponent to keep my attack at bay, and protect my artifacts and enchantments.

Nether Traitor seems perfect for this deck with shadow and haste, doesn't it? The problem is that the two drop slot is crowded, and the equipment takes care of the need for early haste. Maybe I should replace some Vault Skirges with a couple more? Not sure about this one.

Dark Confidant instead of Phyrexian Arena seems a bit too risky, even though it fits aggro and the average CMC in this deck is only about 1,5. I usually take a lot of damage from attacks, and pay life for Lashwrithe and Vault Skirge practically every single game, so drawing a few 4CMC cards with it could get ugly very fast.

Phylactery Lich and Darksteel Axe (instead of Bonesplitter) is a combo that fits well in this deck... kinda. One more mana in equip cost didn't seem much until I tried it, but it's a lot slower. Phylactery Lich is a bit too easy to chump block. They would be great for mid- and late game defence if I need that. Sideboard option, perhaps?

Dash Hopes fits the deck perfectly, except for one important thing - since I'm playing for speed, it will be hard to keep mana available during my opponent's turn. I tend to spend all my mana every single turn until I win or lose.

Cadaver Imp gives me more creatures per card and helps me populate the table, but I can't shake the feeling that it's a bad use of deck space, since I'd rather draw another one of the creatures I'd revive with it, since most of my creatures are the same CMC or cheaper.

Praetor's Grasp seems like a decent sideboard option, since many decks run equipment.

Sorin's Vengeance is a tad expensive, but could work as either a finisher or a lifesaver if I save a Dark Ritual for it.

Dross Golem comes cheap and has fear. Probably a sideboard option.

Chilling Shade, maybe? I've got enough snow swamps, but the thing needs mana every turn.

    The "Help please" part

    1. Which changes would you make to this deck before entering a Legacy tournament with it?

    2. What should I put in my sideboard for a Legacy environment?
