Quote from Marquisd »I don't like the lack of Arashin foremost to be honest. it allows one of our one drops to trade with a courser when attacking. Also it works well with Rager if they are just chump blocking
I agree with Marquis. I think any Warrior deck post DTK, Mardu or Orzhov, should be running the following drops as a minimum:
DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards |
---|
Definite: 4 Blood-Chin Rager 4 Arashin Foremost 4 Chief of the Edge 4 Bloodsoaked Champion |
Then either:
I don't think there's a particular difference between Seeker of the Way or Battle Brawler, it just depends on how many noncreature spells you're playing and/or how many white/red permanents you're running. Although I quite like running Pacifism with Battle Brawler. Battle Brawler can be very useful against token decks too if he gets first strike.
From here, for me, I'm just a little undecided about spells. I really like Crackling Doom and Kolaghan's Command. They both offer good tempo play and the latter can often offer a 2-for-1, giving us potential late game impetus. However they require red which makes the mana base complicated.
You could easily replace Crackling Doom with Hero's Downfall, though I still prefer the former. However I feel unsure what to replace Kolaghan's Command with. I don't like the idea of mainboarding situational removal like Ultimate Price because I can often see it as a dead card, especially against our weakest matchup Abzan. But then, I think this sort of deck would run better using two-mana removal, as this allows for better tempo play. *shrug*.

Temples EtB tapped, and they're still duals.
Also, Sam Stoddard has said they are now going to complete cycles of all ten color pair duals in block.

5 Plains
4 Godless Shrine
4 Temple of Silence
2 Mutavault
4 Underworld Coinsmith
4 Grim Guardian
4 Herald of Torment
3 Athreos, God of Passage
3 High Priest of Penance
2 Eidolon of Countless Battles
2 Ondunos River Trawler
2 Obzedat, Ghost Council
4 Banishing Light
3 Ajani, Caller of the Pride
Ajani is pretty sweet. Pumps up our guys and can get something through for lethal.
Odunos with Athreos on the board is two enchantment creatures in your hand and 3 points to their dome.
High Priest with bestowed Spiteful Returned is a 5 turn clock or a Vindicate. Athreos on board is a headache.
The deck plays two ways:
1. Create a Voltron. Preferably with a High Priest.
2. Ping and burn using Obzedat, Coinsmith, Guardian.

That being said, at the end of my Bon Voyage party, a couple of people who had just started playing, and myself, ended the night with a three-player game. They had lots of casual stuff (Firebreathing!) Of course I stomped them. Becaue I'm not a casual player. I play all the time. Did they have fun? You bet. Did they learn more about the game? Yes again.
They have a lot of cards, don't care about the format, and got a lesson. That's what Wizards needs to know. Just because people see things as "unfun" doesn't mean they'll quit. They will, should the learning curve become too high.
To stay on topic, Black is weak now because its strengths are seen as "unfun". Like Blue's counterspells, or Red's land destruction. Discard and creature killing are tough. Even for experienced players. How many arguments against creatures are made because it dies to X? But its a learning tool. The players who stick around learn to play around it.
So, I say, give Black its power!

They continually give Black accelerators like Crypt Ghast or "Swamp Matters" cards, with no way to abuse them. Every other set, Black gets one or the other, rarely both. Or simply unplayable in the format. Would have been nice to have an X "life-drain" spell last year.

Yes, second turn Ponder to swing with a 3/2 flier. Skillfully done, bro. Putting equipment on a 1/1 flier that searches up copies. HOW HE DO THAT???
STFU.
