A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

My main hobby is Pre-War 2 baseball cards. I can assure that cards (especially those printed in the modern era) will not just decay away over the span of two decades.

What the title says. Just started back in the past year after a decade layoff and I'm looking for a good LCS in the Middle Tennessee area. I am preferably looking for a shop with a healthy legacy and modern scene. I don't (can't) do FMM due to work, so really seeking a shop I can stop in once a week, spend some cash, and play some games.

    Thanks

You seem adamant about using Skype, but I will also second Cockatrice. The entire library of cards is at your disposal, and you can literally find someone to play any format 24-7. And it's completely free!

I was actually going to skip Gatecrash altogether to put some money on Modern Masters, but those guild abilities are just so damn flavorful and the art so far is absolutely gorgeous that i'm tempted again... i like having a small pile of cards that i like the art or just making a solid collection (like having 4 of each Circle of protection even though i don't play white) so i'm looking for aways to put my hands on a nice sample of cards without having to shell out a brickload of money

This. When Gatecrash is spoiled preorder what you really like if anything stands out. (You can usually grab full playsets of commons and uncommons for around $40 on eBay) and save your big bucks for Modern Marvels. If the checklist is anything like people think it will be the value will be there.

You have to remember that we are expecting severely underpaid corporate employees to "care" that someone is ripping off cards from a trading card game. At the end of the day we value cardboard with mythical figures on them - They are hoping to clear enough hours to make benefits. If I were in their shoes it wouldn't be an important issue to me either.

That is seriously weird... Who didn't notice someone sitting in the aisle opening packs of cards??? The Game is Afoot!

At my local box store I often find the foil promo cards removed from the front of decks and with the new RTR packaging I have to checks the side to make sure the pack hasn't been removed or opened. I've learned that for the most part big stores like Wal-Mart could care less because technically the product is still considered property of the distributor until the point of sale. The week RTR dropped there were stacks of open commons/uncommons sitting on the floor where someone opened a large quantity, took the rares and left.

Not sure if you have full coverage, but some car insurance policies cover theft. You will have a hard time providing value, but it is worth a shot.

  • posted a message on [Deck] UW(x) Stoneblade
I run UW Stoneblade in legacy. Lately, I have run against an increasing number of Show and Tell decks. My answers lean heavily against High Tide, Storm, and Goblins (I see a lot of these, + mirror and Esper or Jund). But I am struggling against Show and Tell. Any answers on this front? I really only have the room for 3-4 cards in my sideboard.

Omniscience is a no because I really can't 0 drop equal answers.

Emrakul? If I drop him and they drop Omniscience they can lay their own Emrakul and go from there.

From my recent experience it has come down to who has more FoW's in hand and I prefer to have an answer, not out-counter a deck.

Esper seems the most viable, but I am not up for changing my successful deck just to counter a single one.

    Thanks

  • posted a message on Where to find gold-bordered cards
I bought my brother gold bordered Wastelands and FoWs because he wanted to play legacy with us but will likely never attend a tourney. Watch for ebay auctions and you can pick them up for cheap.

The first real tournament I went to was during the Onslaught block. I went with my GF (now wife) to a Grand Prix?? in Atlanta. We were freshmen in college. Got absolutely wiped. Never played FMN or anything before that, just casual kitchen table Magic and we had no business being there. But we learned from it. Meet some nice people who helped us out and met some jerks too. My guess is he is the same as we were, just didn't know better. It was nice of you to be polite to him, and maybe his game grows from this experience.

  • posted a message on What is the worst trade/deal you have ever made?
To many to name. I first got into the game during revised. I was around 10 or 11. I would play it with my older cousins and they would take me to this sports card shop at the mall that sold Magic cards. I'd save all my allowance to buy starter decks and packs every month. Being that young I never thought of "function", I wanted "Cool." I can remember having Mana Drains, ABR Duals, and like and trading them for jank. I remember when I discovered the Ali from Cairo - Jade Monolith combo. I just opened my binder and had to have them at all costs. I remember getting sharked again for Teferi's Puzzle Box when Visions hit. I had to have it (IT WAS ON THE FREAKING PACK!!!). Yeah, young and dumb.

This doesn't fit the premise of this thread, but I thought I would mention it here. People always talk about randomness and collation, and I am a firm believer than in the long run all things even out and odds fall in line. I simply cannot explain this though - As RTR was spoiled there was one uncommon that caught my eye for it's artwork and function. Between my brother and I, we have opened enough RTR to almost fill a 3000 count box with commons and a 900 count box with uncommons. Multiples of every mythic and playsets of many Rares.

Syncopates - 0. Nada. Not a single one.

99.9% of all are scams. Don't waste your time or more importantly your money. The easy out for these guys is to have a friend or an alternate account purchase on lot and consider that to be the money sale.
