  • posted a message on What cards would you like to see in the older borders?
I can't say I like or dislike the new borders over the old. I will say that I miss that creature spells aren't called summons anymore.

If I had a choice between a spell that said Creature - Dragon and Summon Dragon I would pick the Summon Dragon one every time.

Isn't that exactly what I said would happen in the doom blade situation? That there is no "fizzling" of doom blade?

True but it really all depends on how Player 1 decides on how the spells/abilities resolve.

Activate spellskite and then cast blessing before spellskite ability resolves = Spellskite with protection from black and thus an illegal target for it's own ability and a dead Wurmcoil Engine.

Activate spellskite ability, let it resolve then cast blessing on spellskite and you have a spellskite with protection from black that has been legally targeted by doom blade which now causes the blade to fizzle and you have both spellskite and wurmcoil engine alive.

And there is the rub. Without clear clarification on how you want the spells to play out it could be interpreted either way.

Player 1 casts uses the skite's ability and casts the blessing with the idea of having the target moved and then protection granted to save it. Unless it is specifically said that way it will likely be seen as the spellskite's ability to move the target is being put on the stack and then the blessing is put on the stack which will resolve first and thus making the spellskite's ability an illegal move and will cause it to fizzle and thus leave the doom blade targeting the wurmcoil engine.

This is why knowing how the stack works and knowing that the stack will always resolve one spell/ability at a time is handy. It will let you do what you intend to do instead of accidentally messes up your play that would save your creatures.

jskura's stack example fits better that what I had.

Now one problem may be due to the rules of targeting that is invloved. Mainly being that Spellskite has to be a legal target for it's ability to work. Activating it's ability and then using the blessing while it's still on the stack will make the blessing resolve first which gives the skite protection from black which makes it an illegal target for the doom blade to be moved to.

Now my question is that since Player A controls both the spellskite and the Wurmcoil Engine: Why didn't Player A just cast the blessing on the Engine and give it protection from black?

Infect modifies how the creature deals damage. Protection prevents damage among other things. Throw a Blightwidow against a Mirran Crusader and the Blightwidow is toast while the Crusader is uninfected and unaffected by the damage from the widow.

  • posted a message on New Pherexia Fat Pack change staying for M12?
They made a change to the New Phyrexia fat packs? I know Scars was a 8 booster Fat Pack and Besieged changed to a 9 booster fat pack but I don't know if anything was changed between Besieged and Phyrexia.

The new Fat Pack format should be 9 boosters with a land pack, spindown die, Player's guide/cardlist and maybe a couple little deck boxes inside the Fat Pack box.

I was at Target the other day to see if they have those $10 repacks and found that they had a Heavenly Inferno and a Counterpunch deck in stock. Picked up Heavenly Inferno and completely forgot about checking for the little $10 packs.

I haven't had a chance to play with the deck yet but I can't wait to play it.

Congrats on being made a mod Arcadic.

On a side note: Your avatar has this look of "What did I get myself into?"

It would be put into the graveyard as a State Based Action since the said indestructible creature will be found with 0 toughness. One of the few ways to actually send an indestructible creature to the graveyard from play.

Now if it was 5 damage instead of -5/-5 that would be a different story.

While I don't go out of the way for foil lands or full art lands I do tend to be rather picky about which lands I do put into my decks. I do try to stick with the theme of my deck though. If I'm making a tribal deck I go thru my lands and end up saying to myself "Would this tribe actually like to live on this land?"

When making a land destruction deck to play casual with I used the lands from Scars block to show the decay and corruption of the land which kinda fits with me destroying all my opponents land.

I'm not a huge fan of blue but I do dabble in the color from time to time. He has Jace's Erasure as his +1 basically and milling for 10 is Jace 1.0's Ultimate cut in half which is pretty fun.

Now Jace 3.0's Ultimate sounds like it was made for Commander. It'll be fun to use in Drafts and possibly even Standard if you can manage to get it up and running.

Only time will tell what Innstrad will bring to this and if this new Jace will live up to his name so to speak. It can't be fun be the guy following JTMS.

Pretty sure the ban on Jace and SFM said Effective July 1 so he's still got one more FNM in him before he's really out of standard.

I think most people are confusing Overrun for Overwhelming Stampede.

Sun/Grave/Frost Titans aren't on the list yet but considering how Titan based spells seem to be showing up it's quite possible they will too. Having another chance at the Titans with packs at normal prices would be nice.

The fact that Jace, Chandra and Garruk aren't listed is kinda interesting since it does tend to lead towards a new version of those three.

Look what happened to that Final Fantasy movie: it was an absolute turd, and everyone thought so.

Main reason the Final Fantasy movie failed was because Square decided to go with a new story instead of one based off one of the games. The Advent Children movie did far better just because it was basically made as a continuing of the FF7 story which is something a lot of gamers were hoping the Final Fantasy movie was going to be in the first place.

Magic the Gathering as a movie could work if they can find a way to follow a storyline from the sets as opposed to making some brand new story and kinda slapping the MtG logo on it.
