I think the variable day/month or month/day notation threw you off, unless I'm looking at tables incorrectly or misunderstanding. I think the 02/12/2012 Shaheen Soorani win you're seeing is for December, so there are gobs of finishes between then and February of the same year.
Just double checked. look like i made some errors, but the message is the same. Its been a long time for Esper Stoneblade. In my data I'm counting 1st place finishes, events 200+ players, Esper Stoneblade, not deathblade.
Charles Gordon won SCG oakland Dec 2013 *new* 10 month gap
lauren nolan won scg feb 2013
vidi won gp denver in jan 2013
soorani won scg baltimore in dec 2012 (date error) 6 month gap
vidi won SCG las vegas jun 2012 <--- i missed this one
hoey won SCG july 2012 <--- i missed this one too
Tom Martell won GP Indy march 2012 <--- missed this one
Indeed. I'm quite happy it made first. I've always felt like it was so close to first for so long. It's nice to see it finally "get there."
I've never stopped believing in discard.
Playing without black wouldn't necessarily be wrong though; it's still very viable. Personally, I like my discard a little too much to drop 'em from my build.

it's been a long 10 months since Lauren Nolan won SCG Cincinnati back in February.
Although Vidi won GP Denver in January 2013 the the last time before that Esper Stoneblade won a major event was February 2012 piloted by Shaheen Soorani.
After a great 2012, (I believe) this marks, a bit surprisingly to me, the first 1st place finish for an Esperblade deck in a big tourney since February.

I thought he should have held the birchlore and nettle until the dryad arbor was unsick then went for it with the untapped cradle and the extra mana the birchlore would have made
So, you have two ad hominem attacks and a generalizing platitude about "Legacy players". On the other side, I have facts (such as TNN being uninteractive) and statistics (4 TNN decks in the top 8 in SCG Oakland, 5 at SCG Providence, and 3 in the T8 at the GP and more in the T16).
For what it's worth, I've been playing Legacy since 2003. In my experience, cards as oppressive and abundant as TNN tend to get banned. Flash got the axe. Survival of the Fittest was taken down. Mental Misstep is no more.
I advocate an aggressive approach to the banlist. For other popular games, such as League of Legends, strategies that are too powerful are balanced by making effects stronger or weaker. In Magic, this sort of quantitative balancing isn't possible due to it being a paper card game. The only way strategies can be balanced is through the banning or unbanning of cards.
If one strategy is too dominant (as the U/W aggro-control strategies are), something should go to open up the field to new decks. The best card to ban in this instance is TNN. TNN is fairly specific to these decks (while Stoneforge is ran in several fair decks like Maverick and D&T). TNN is also much less interactive than Stoneforge.
You're really uninformed about the format. There's so many flaws in your post and how you see it. Legacy players prefer a hands off approach to the format. We're actually happy that the DCI doesn't heavily police it. We prefer it that way.
How long have you been playing Legacy for? And how long has this alleged UW Dominant strategy been oppressing the format in your mind?
I encourage you to look at tc decks or mtg top 8 to collect some statistics instead of making outrageous claims.
After today I'm convinced that maindeck Moat is not only plausible but actually useful. I'm not extremely happy with Ensnaring Bridge as weapon against TNN tho. It locks out your creatures too, and keeping a constant 2 card hand is sometimes very hard to do.
Is Magus of the Moat plausible with Mom and Spellskite?
That's right Tormod, a strategy that occupies 50% of the top 8 isn't ban-worthy. We need to wait until it's at least 87% of the top 8 before we can throw around the b-word.
Note that the top 8 is pretty much devoid of green and red's presence is limited to Bolt and REB.
Do you realize how you sound when you waving your ban flag over 12 copies of True-Name Nemesis meanwhile there are are 20 copies of Stoneforge Mystic?
In Legacy you don't use the word Ban loosely and you're tossing around like its nothing. Have some respect for the format.

This was after the first EE, the turn before the verdict. likely he would have been by the verdict but he would have had 3 more cards in hand.
I wouldn't want to drop birchlore until I could get value that turn.
But that Esper build had a lot answers for elves.
Those "facts" only prove my point.
They could start there.

and 6 Stoneforge Decks Oh My!
There's a format called Modern you might like....
2 Esper Stoneblade
2 UWR Stoneblade
1 Tezzeret Affinity
1 Elves
1 Omni-Tell
1 Death and Taxes
Seems like those oppressive format warping Stoneforge Mystics are taking over
