Very interesting read sweeney, thanks!
I was wondering if the recent surge in Magic prices was similar to what happened with comic books and your post explained a lot for me.
Sun Titan comes in against any midrange/control deck. Jund/UWR/RUG...decks where Elesh Norn and Iona aren't that impressive. I'm contemplating cards to help with the URx matchups, as getting quad bolt/quad electrolyze+snapcaster'd is not a way I would like to lose.
I definitely misclicked/misplayed more than a few times today, though, so I guess I can't expect much more.
Thanks for the explanation on Sun Titan
I have been thinking about cards for the URx match ups as well. Abrupt decay is not very good vs URW. I have cut one and gone back with mana leak since there are a lot of URW decks around right now.
Geist is pretty strong vs us especially with the amount of burn removal they pack... how have you found thrun and spellskite?
I am thinking about main boarding a supreme verdict?
Thanks for the reply guys. I didn't think express international was needed for an order totalling $160 US.
Usually all my international orders arrive in 2 weeks.
I've never had a problem with regular USPS before. I made 3 orders with SCG, the one that is missing was made a week before the other two. The other two arrived 1 week ago.
I have contacted them and got a pretty generic reply. Basically SCG stated that it could be delayed to any number of reasons. They also provided a link stating they take no responsibility for lost USPS orders.
Placed an order with Star City on the 12/08/2012 for 3 foil snapcaster mages shipped via USPS.
Order still hasn't arrived.
I've placed hundreds of orders online within the last few years and this is the first package to be lost in the mail. Disappointed that there is no compensation at all for this even though I have placed multiple orders with Star City in the past.
Hey guys I have just recently built this deck as my 1st entry into modern Thanks Shane for putting this deck on the radar. And thanks everyone else for all your work here I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread. Hopefully in the coming months I will have some tech to contribute also
One question when you are going to use gifts to fetch the ruins/explosives combo what other cards do you grab at the same time?
Disagree,I play NO elves and he won't substitude ooze.He can compliment him,but not substitude it.At least in mono g elves.Everybody knows that elves create a ton of mana and sinking it into ooze oftenly means you won not true for shaman, taps for abbility is significant drawback.
I guess if you are playing NO Elves then you can have a mix of both the shaman and the ooze.
I play combo elves and we generally win turn 3 without disruption. In terms of graveyard decks Reanimator and Dredge are the worst match ups mainly because they are 2nd turn win decks vs us.
If you are using the Ooze it is a turn 2 play and turn 3 to get an activation. By turn 3 opponent already has a zombie horde swinging for the win or Iona in which case it is GG.
With the shaman you can play it first turn and then get rid of the graveyard threat turn 2 just in time to save you from instantly loosing the game.
Conclusion: Shaman can win match ups we should normally lose. I don't think anyone should be running scavenging ooze main board in combo elves. Now with deathrite shaman it shouldn't be in the sb either.
