  • posted a message on Spreading Seas vs Blood Moon.
It will be a mountain. Both Spreading Seas and Blood Moon have a continuous effect that applies in layer 4, so we apply those effects in timestamp order. If Spreading Seas is out first and then Blood Moon is played (assuming a non-basic land) then it will be a mountain since Blood Moon came out last. If after Blood Moon is out another spreading seas is played, then the land its played on will be an island.

Yes enrage would still trigger. The damage was still dealt, the fact that it was removed to replace destruction doesn't change that fact. The same would be true if the creature regenerated (which also removes the damage).

Also it doesn't prevent deathtouch, the umbra simply replaces destruction.

Correct, if your opponent does 5 points of combat damage to you, then the Griffin gets 5 counters. Conversely an opponent deals you 3 points of damage from a spell the Griffin will get 3 counters.

  • posted a message on Authority of the Consuls vs Kari Zev's Ragavan token
Technically it doesn't actually attack, but yes it enters the battlefield tapped and attacking. All authority of the Consuls does is makes opponents creatures enter the battlefield tapped and nothing else. So it doesn't actually stop them from attacking, it's just that to declare an attacker the creature needs to be untapped. You will indeed gain life when the token is created, since that creature is entering the battlefield under your opponents control.

    [c]Obzedat, Ghost Council[/c] = Obzedat, Ghost Council
    Opal Palace

No it will not return with the counters. When Obzedat is exiled and returns it comes back as a completely different object with no memory of its past existence. So it won't remember it was cast with Opal Palace, therefore it does not get the counters as it enters.

  • posted a message on Venser, the Sojourner
Only if you are the owner of the permanent. In most cases Venser's ability can not exile a permanent your opponent controls, however if that player gained control of one of your permanents (one that started in your deck) then Venser could exile that permanent and return it to the battlefield under your control at beginning of your end step.

2b) Yes, Kari Zev is the same. You can counter the delayed trigger. However, Kari Zev does not say the *next* End of Combat. That means the trigger will occur at the end of every combat as long as the token is still around.

This is incorrect, if you stifle the delayed trigger it will not occur again and the monkey will stay on the battlefield indefinitely. Unless it has a stated duration, a delayed trigger only triggers once.

You might be thinking about the ability from Ball Lightning where it will trigger every end step, but that's because it's not a delayed trigger.

Please use card tags instead of attachments:
    [c]Grafdigger's Cage[/c] = Grafdigger's Cage
    Grave Betrayal

If Grafdigger's Cage is on the battlefield then creatures can't enter the battlefield from the graveyard, no matter whose control it entered or what graveyard it came from. So the creatures would remain in the graveyard when Grave Betrayal's delayed triggered ability resolves.

Edit - Unless the card in the graveyard is not a creature card and would return, in that case the card would return (for example if it was a vehicle).

  • posted a message on Using abilities during upkeep
Sure, Eldrazi Monument has a triggered ability which uses the stack. With the ability on the stack you can activate the Pasture to make your goat. The Pasture's ability will resolve first and the goat will be on the battlefield for sacrificing when Monument's trigger resolves.

  • posted a message on Energy Field and command zone
Yes, because the commander is never put into the graveyard. Choosing to put the commander into the command zone is a replacement effect, so instead of it going to the graveyard it goes to the command zone.

Also a creature only dies if it actually goes to the graveyard, so by magic terms putting the commander in the command zone it never actually dies (important for abilities the trigger when something dies).

  • posted a message on Does Blood Sun shut of Lotus Vale ETB effect?
    Quote from matt247 »
it does not shut down the effect.

"If Lotus Vale would enter the battlefield, sacrifice two untapped lands instead. If you do, put Lotus Vale onto the battlefield. If you don't, put it into its owner's graveyard"

This ability is a state based action that requires no triggers and happens before the land is allowed to enter, and is therefore not a permanent affected by blood sun nor blood moon. Same goes for Scorched Ruins. So the recent price spikes must be for another reason, or people don't understand the interaction.

No you are incorrect, with the recent rule change that happened a few months ago you now apply continuous effects from other permanents that would apply to the replacement effect. So Lotus Vale has a replacement effect that modifies how it enters the battlefield, but Blood Sun has a continuous effect that would apply to the permanent the Lotus Vale would become. So since by the new rules that continuous effect would apply, the ability would be removed and you would not have to sacrifice any lands as the Vale enters.

Also the ability is not a state based action, it's a replacement effect.

Please use card tags for this forum:
    [c]Azor's Elocutors[/c] = Azor's Elocutors

To answer your question, no that doesn't work. Azor's Elocutors triggered ability is only looking for the number of counters on that particular object, the fact that another object you have has the same name is irrelevant in game terms. So in order to win you have to have 5 or more counters on the one whose trigger resolves.

  • posted a message on Power & Toughess Switch Layering
It would be a 7/2. Power/Toughness switching is the last sublayer to apply in layer 7. So first dive down's effect applies making the Crag a 2/7 (layer 7c), then the P/T switching (layer 7e) applies afterwords which makes the Crag a 7/2.

  • posted a message on Crew Question
Do note however, that once they announce the vehicle is being crewed you can't stop that from happening by removing the creature(s) or reducing their power. So if your opponent crews a vehicle, you can respond and cast path to exile targeting the creature they used to crew the vehicle to remove it from the game, but tapping the creatures is a cost so at that point the cost will be paid and the vehicle will be crewed.

  • posted a message on Crested sunmare and horse tokens
Provided you gained the life before the end step, yes both abilities will trigger. In this case you do have two triggered abilities and each trigger is looking for a life gain event, so if you gained life each ability will trigger separately and you'll get two horses.
