I've been playing the deck for a while; kinda forgot the combo wasn't obvious, I guess. The point of the deck isn't an infinite combo, regardless. You'll only ever bother to pull it off against a really focused control deck, since a 20/20 Lumbering Falls is basically impossible for them to deal with.

The point of the deck is that you can resolve almost anything to win. Untapping with one land-creature on the board after turn 4 is just game often enough that opponents can't afford to ever let it happen, and you can make a lot of them for a long time. It's highly resistant to disruption and it isn't slow, and most of your spells represent the potential (if not the reality) for your opponent to just lose while also making it really hard for them to be aggressive.

I totally agree with this, which is why I'm wondering if it's even worth running more than 2 Noyan Dar (or at all?); for him to win you the game you have to land him, survive a turn, then combo out. Rattleclaw is enough to win early on, and halimar+clutch or lumbering falls are backup win cons if your rattleclaw gets burned.

I was working on this deck in the new card discussion, but now that the full spoiler is up, I decided to continue on th deck over here. I think this deck has enough tools to make it work, though I have no idea how competitive it would be. Here is my updated version. It is once again 4-color, but it is primarily UR splashing W and G.

Hi all, so I did some playtesting with this list -2 Send to Sleep +1 Dig +1 Stubborn Denial. It's the most fun deck I've played in standard so far!

The interaction between mana-dork/manland + ascendancy is crazy, most of my wins came from rattleclaw mystic + Lumbering Falls or awaken Clutch of Currents, then infinite mana from ascendancy. Obviously Noyan Dar does mad work, but he often has to survive a turn before comboing out.

On the winning turn I've found that more often than not I can dig up double Radiant Flames to wipe the opponent's board and win with just 2-3 fat manlands. This card is really good, am almost never sad to see it. I may test but am iffy on Planar Outburst/Tragic Arrogance, their high mana cost and possibility of killing my nonland pieces both seem bad.

In matchups hardcore aggro is definitely the hardest, it's either lose in 4 turns or hit radiant flames, and even after that it's an upward battle since our mana dork gets burned away easily. Other than that this deck is nuts, although very draw dependent (and absolutely hilarious against that antimeta tutelage-mill deck)

I feel like this deck could be made faster/more consistent but I'm not sure how. Noyan Dar+Ascendancy is an instant win but I feel like most of the time he's either useless or a win more card, might cut 2 of him. I know Rush of Ice seems like a terrible card but considering we don't need permanent card advantage as much as buying 2 more turns, could it be an option?

Clutch of Currents and Rush of Ice were both incredible, either buying time for me early on or getting in good damage in later.

If I activate a manland such as Creeping Tar Pit, and equip Grafted Wargear to it, when wargear becomes unequipped at the end of the turn do I sacrifice my land? I'm guessing no since my land is no longer a creature and wargear specifically refers to sacricing a creature?

What happens if the opponent manages to resolve a planeswalker, say Liliana of the Veil? It seems like most decks maindeck very very few answers (Utter end/Downfall/Lingering Souls?), and more than likely she'll screw you over.

I haven't read too much of the comments, but I had a question about OP's sample decklist (Pure Control, not the midrange or infect one). There's a total of 7 creatures, but since 4 of them are 2/2's and the other 3 are 5/5's and there is absolutely no mill in the deck, shouldn't a competent control opponent be able to take out all your finishers and leave you helpless? Because even if we take out all the opponent's threats, having no creatures means we won't be winning anytime either.

I noticed a lot of powerful demons were very cheap due to their mana cost, and after reading the SCD for Bloodgift Demon realized how awesome heartless summoning was, so here's me trying to make use of that.

Here's some things I need help with: What good 1-drops are there? Most creatures would die to Heartless later on, and those that don't become useless 1/1's. A ramping artifact (with cmc 1) would be nice so I could keep a hand with only 1 land and a heartless. Any suggestions for more includes would be nice; aside from the three demons in my list, what others are worth using? Griselbrand isn't exactly budget so not him.

  • posted a message on Possible to Use Sideboard to Change Deck Style?
After reading some deck's sideboard (I forget exactly, but it basically predicted the opponents sideboard and completely shifted his own deck's strategy to combat it), I thought what if we could essentially play two decks in one? Take my theories with a grain of salt; I haven't played type 2 in over a year, but thought this could be cool.
So for example we're playing BG control (yeah, unlikely, but bear with me). So we've got the removal, hand disruption, and big finishers from black, and ramping plus some pump spells in green. Now after game one, if our strategy succeeded, a competent opponent will be putting in some typical control hate (exiling all your finishers from the deck, indestructibles to counter sweeps, Thalias, etc). Rather than side in more control awesomeness, we rewrite our strategy...
Looking at the sideboard, 15 cards is only 25% of a deck, not enough to change much. But with 25 flexible lands, the sideboard is effectively 15/35, nearly half of your changeable deck. Switching out all 15 cards could be very powerful. Trading the hand disruption and finishers for 1-2 drop creatures, maybe even siding out removal for extra beaters, we can easily go from control to midrange, maybe even aggro. This change will keep some cards the same (the ramp and kill spells) but when the opponent Slaighter Games for your liliana, they'll hit nothing but thin air. Fast pumped creatures will be winning the second game, since their Shocks and variants will be gone (maybe).
So what decks, if any, have a viable sideboard to rewrite the entire deck? Discuss

Thanks for the help guys! I've decided to start with Adam Styborski's cube and go from there. Since they're all commons, maybe it would be fine to play without card sleeves... those darn things are worth more than some of the cards...

My friends and I wanna get started in cubing, but we're pretty much dirt poor (the high school life). Peasant cubing might be an option, but playing without rares seems kinda lonely. Does anyone know some cheaper lists? This means like no shock lands, no titans, and hopefully some easy to obtain cards (no alpha etc.) Thanks so much!
