My thought process is that most of the spells in my deck do about 3 damage. Some do 2 and some do 5, but on average its 3. To me, anything that is doing more damage than me needs to be taken out asap. So anything with a 4 power or greater I'll kill before it attacks. (And no, I'm not taking a 15/2 Ornithopter to the face if I'm holding a Magma Jet.)
I'm pretty sure I'd take out Bob if I saw him. I get where you're coming from, but we already run out of gas quick, so letting them have card advantage is a bad thing in my opinion.
Your opening draw is Barbarian Ring, Great Furnace, Rift Bolt, Spark Elemental, Mogg Fanatic, Incinerate, Shrapnel Blast. What do you play first turn? Is it always the Fanatic? or do you send Sparky Across for 3?
The only place I would think about sudden shock is in the sideboard strictly for atog/ravager removal and maybe for a finisher for blue, but what would you take out?
My question is- is scry worth an extra point of damage? I've been going back and forth between Chain of Plasma and Magma Jet. Both 2 mana. One is 3 damage, the other is 2. One can come back at you and be sent back the other way again, the other has scry.
Yeah, please don't think the list I threw down in 10 minutes is the end-all-be-all of this deck. I merely picked a bunch of guys who are pretty cheap to drop and/or do fun things with equipment. I would personally rather the OP toss together a decklist and we can make suggestions or changes to that.
I'm not. It seemed to me that you were implying that the targets could be chosen as the spell resolved. (Hence me double checking it in the rulings thread.)
I wasn't saying you could change the target of the shattering spree after its on the stack (and lotus, it has to have a legal target when it goes on the stack, not just on resolution). What I'm saying is- how many affinity players are just attacking with the frogmite? I would need more information. Is spree the only card in my hand? What are the life totals? How much land do I have in play? What lands are they? What's in my graveyard? These are all things to take into account when deciding what to blow up with spree. Did I have a Fanatic in play? (If so, the frog would be dead already.) I can't be low on life (otherwise you'd have attacked all out and the Nexus would already be activated and attacking, in which case all three die to my spree).
Do you choose the new targets for the replicated copies when they are added to the stack? or as they resolve? For some reason I thought you choose targets for replicated copies as they resolve since they are never actually "played".
Can I target something with a spell or a copy of a spell that is not a legal target? For instance- can I target an unactivated Blinkmoth Nexus with a copy of Shattering Spree? I guess the main question is- when does a spell check to see if its target is legal? When its played? Or when its resolving?
And, last time I checked, they have to activate the nexus in order to dump the counters on it. That makes it a legal target for shattering spree. If they activate it, you can target it, if they don't activate it, they lose everything when you hit the ravager (make sure you target it last so its the first thing destroyed.
Edit- and Lesurgo is correct. Chalice and Counterbalance both say "when a spell is *played*" Both replicate and storm merely put copies of the spell on the stack, so neither of them trigger for the copies. Just make sure you target something you don't care if it gets destroyed or not with the actual spell and save the replicated copies for the things you really want gone.
Edit x2- and Boseju- 2 life to make counterbalance, chalice of the void, and dovescape dead cards. I'll take it.
The problem with that theory is the "as soon as turn 5" part. Ideal combos out on turn 3-4, Dredge combos out turn 2-4, Burn, RDW, Affinity, & Zoo all kill by turn 3-4, and control decks have established board position by turn 5. Unless you have an excellent way to stall another deck or accellerate to 5 mana (realistically 7) its a casual card.
