The End of an Era

man oh man I hope no combo players ruin this card for me. All this talk about deadeye navigator seems moot since like every card ever combos with deadeye. I'm most excited about the combat trigger on this one. pseudo opposition/feast and famine possibilities with a weenie swarm sounds like fun.

How to best express my dismay?
I expected bestow to be so much more than a crappy set mechanic.
I expected bestow to be the card advantage redeeming mechanic that pulled auras level with equipment.
I expected enchantment creatures to be just as central to the set as equipment were to mirrodin.

    I received none of this.

To further add to the insult to auras, wizards obviously designed creatures first and then gave them bestow at ridiculous costs. Obviously if they do see play they will see play for their creature costs with aura as a sometimes boon. I would've much prefered crappy creature stats and competitive aura costs. These are auras that won't be auras for most of their existence.

But wait! there's casual! Wizards could've salvaged this mechanic by making it playable there. But alas, in the one format that reliably afford these in has way better options than making a creature vigilant for six mana. Why couldn't these auras at least done something new or splashy!? If I'm going through the trouble of bestowing the crab enchantment I should be drawing two cards. All the creative juices were used up on monstrous creatures or regular auras without bestow.

Obviously I'm guilty of having high expectations. But wizards, you are guilty of negligently failing to make auras good in a aura based set.

hey so I think op got what he wanted in terms of big splashy global-type enchantments a la gods. The fact that they can be creatures and are indestructible is icing on the cake. the weapons of the gods are also similar splashy powerful global enchants.

what we didn't get are any real relevant auras. Gift of immortality is probably the best in my book.

bestow is also very nerfed. As a mechanic you expect to be super important to limited, it falls way short in my book. WHY DO I WANT TO WAIT UNTIL TURN SIX TO CAST SOMETHING AS AN AURA THAT I CAN CAST AS A CREATURE NOW?
All bestow creatures with such high bestow costs should actually help you late game. I feel like I'll probably be casting them as creatures at that point as well because I will need an extra body more than one big one.

Also missing is any bestow creature that you'd ever want to cast on an opponent's creature and any cool blue effect that turns creature with bestow back into an aura.

Also it's very pathetic that the best auras in the set are equipment.
    GAHHH!

Okay I have to ask, what in the world does this whale, who TEMPORARILY EXILES, have to do with the Avatar who KILLS STUFF DEAD, who also happens to have FEAR rather then "remove a potentional blocker from the equation", who can in certain cases be cast for 2...I honestly don't get where you're coming from.

I don't believe how you can't see how similar these cards are in form and function. They both have:

    1) evasion: islandwalk vs FEAR
    2) removes creatures by turning sideways
    3) is a big creature

This whale will own a board just like an avatar of woe. It's removal ability will not just "remove a potentional blocker" but it will take out whatever you want in a multiplayer game because you'll be able to swing in against someone who either has islands or no blockers. Add to this blue's ability to protect it with counterspells and you have a very potent threat just like avatar of woe. It's also foolhardy to underestimate the power of temporary removal. Exiling temporarily can be better than "killing stuff dead" because the exile zone is harder to retrieve stuff from than the graveyard especially in edh.

OH YEAH! A great move for EDH! Blue can go soak! Clone effects become more in line with their intended flavor... actually copy things instead of being pseudo destroy effects. Not as bad for blue as a lot of people seem to be thinking. You still get a huge dude if you copy their huge dude: emrakul et al..

I'm not happy that edh blue gets a color-bled avatar of woe effect. In some ways it's better because you get to attack and remove a creature at the same time. the clone rule nerfing almost makes up for it though. almost.

ugh bad card is bad. Would not take it in a boat with a goat.
SEVERELY outclassed by one of my favs from kamigawa: Blood Speaker
Six cards and six mana to tutor a severely limited number of creatures into play is bad.
The only thing worth it is Griselbrand since he refills your hand.
Unburial Rites is still better for cheating.

    Quote from Honor Basquiat
As much as I doubt it will happen I would love to see an Orzhov planeswalker.

I would also love to see an agressive Orzhov discard spell, something like

    Shake and Swindle 1WB
    Sorcery (U)
Target opponent exiles two cards from his or her hand. You gain 4 life.

I'd like to to see another pw in orzhov colors too, but first I think we should get a simic one and a izzet one.

Shake and swindle is too close to purge the profane
which was just printed. How about a coercion effect that hits all opponents and exiles for 2BBW?

I'd like to see more guildless flavored cards. Maybe a back to basics reprint.

Legendary Nephlim would be awesome. I want a four color commander deck nowwwwww. Some one or two mana guild champions would also be great.

I like a good semi-stax play to take the wind out the the mega mana sails like:
    keldon firebombers
    or
    global ruin

Sorin's -3 ability is scaled to a standard 20 life game. In EDH he breaks the curve. This is the reason he is only playable in EDH. Do things that break the curve deserve a ban? If they are an auto-include in every deck that could run them, I would say yes. Sorin almost is there. If I saw him showing up in almost every game like Primeval Titan used to in my play group, I would suggest a ban.

As for the countering infinite-life necessity goes.... there are plenty of fairer ways to do so like commander damage.
As for your argument that the card should be fully legal in EDH because it's the only format it could be played in: Sorin won't have his feelings hurt for not having a format to play in(most cards don't). Your buddy who just was effectively edited out out the game will.

thank the heavens. Too many games lately have been decided by whoever lands a primeval titan first. If he survives to attack once, you've effectively time-walked your opponents four times in your land count. In a format decided by big bomby plays, playing your big bombs four turns sooner than your opponent is usually enough to win every time.

edit: congrads seds on 13,000 posts!
