I'm interested in seeing how many rares are included. For a 60 card precon, it is usually 6, but last year's multiplayer had 8, I think. Those were still 60 card decks, these are 100 card decks, which makes me think we could get up to 12 or so rares, including 3 "mythics." I really want to see one or two rare dual lands in these to help with mana fixing and giving the serious players a reason to pick these up. If these had a couple of zendikar fetch lands each for color coverage, people would be stoked. Wizards must know that most players have VERY few basic lands in their EDH builds, so it would be disappointing to see these packed with basics. I'm sure everyone would appreciate some creative land choices/mana fixers, Wizards. They don't all have to be rare.
Wizards is on a manhunt right now. Tip of the hat to the leak person. I wonder how the visual spoiler from wizards is going to go now: "Well here is some card that you already know about -.-" Haha. I love 3rd sets. They are so powerful!
That just means that StarCity overprice their cards. You could get those cards for far less on MagicCardMarket.
From what I can tell, some are cheaper there, but some are not (Lavamancer, FoD). If you were a smart shopper, you could get the singles for at least 45 US dollars, from a quick look at some of the cards, or you can just buy the product for 25-30 dollars and not hassle with all the singles shopping. My point is that whatever site you go to will have the singles marked way higher than the actual product, inferring that it is a smart buy, ya?
For anyone still wondering if the deck is valuable, I checked the singles prices on Star City, and the deck is easy worth over 60 bucks, not even counting the valuable unique lands. Chain lightning, Grim lavamancer, Price of progress, FoD, Ball lighning, and Browbeat more than pay for the deck itself. Buy this deck, it's also really fun to reverberate a fireblast.
I was flirting with the idea of making a Doran EDH deck, which would be my first EDH deck. After seeing this sexy bomb, I'm pretty much decided. Elesh is a sparkling "Fun" magic card. Remember when magic cards used to be fun, not the "I counter and remove until I can play a titan and win." I'm glad lots of people are psyched for a 7 cmc. It seems like anything that is not a titan is considered garbage. Let's have fun with this card everyone!
So I decided to try the deck out on MWS with my friend, and we played 6 or 7 games... Dragons lost every time. Dragons die as soon as they hit the battlefield. Oblivion ring, Reprisal, Mighty leap those first strikers. Reciprocate a dragon that hits. Spidersilk Armor gives a legion of air blockers. Counter cone of flame with Sigil blessing. Silver knight + warhammer/ griffin guide is insta-win for knights. Knights often have basically won by turn 6, which is often the first dragon summon on red's side. Man, I wanted dragons to win at least a couple games. Knights just have so many solutions, but only need one for that first dragon. Hang on to that reprisal Until turn 6, then win the game. (shakes head). I would have taken Hunted dragon out of the deck if they put it in. Why give MORE ammo to knights.
I feel like Silver Knight just emerged unscathed from a dragon's fire. Also look at what he's got all strung up around the horse's neck. Dragon fangs. So flavorful for the deck.
That Seething song is pretty hot. Do want. I'm glad the dragon deck reprints actually have dragons on them. All that needed to happen with the Warhammer was for the loxodon to drop out of the art. Check. I'm a big fan of Reynolds. I wish ancient hellkite with his art was in the deck instead of shivan hellkite. New border cards are welcome for me. I plan to have fun with the deck. My girlfriend wants to play dragons. I don't have the heart to tell her it will be harder to win with it haha.
While I think I'll have fun with the decks, there is something that troubles me. Grasslands seems to be just a limited version of terramorphic expanse that comes online a turn later. what is the appeal of grasslands over expanse, other than it being color appropriate?
Is it forbidden to switch out cards from the deck and put in your own? I have about 6 cards for each deck that I want to switch in just for fun, I want to put in Dragonmaster Outcast, Shivan Dragon, and Steel Hellkite in for dragons, and Hero of Bladehold, a Sunpetal grove, and a Wilt-leaf Liege for knights, just to name a few.
I think these decks could still be fun, I just want to put my own touch on them. It's not that I want to restructure the whole of each deck, just a few rares each. I also have a tatsumasa that could jump in the spot of one of those lame 6 cmc burn spells. How cool would that be?
Kilnmouth Dragon (never had one before, and was sure archenemy eliminated it from being in this deck)
Thunder Dragon (win. never thought I'd see one outside of the the vault again.)
Alternate art cards are always fun for collections.
Juniper Orchard Ranger (Lot's of people called this one)
KotR (Never played with one. I want to see if it's good)
Knotvine, White Orchid, and meadowgrain are all solid cards.
Wilt leaf cavaliers (My favorite card ever. Sad there's no liege)
Reciprocate (That knight beheaded a dragon. Delicious flavor)
Chin up.
Level-up stuff is not so great... Also, Spitting Earth and Seismic Strike in the same deck... wat. Predator Dragon will be missed. Love that guy.
