Everyone here's rejoicing and all, but where did all the "Jumpstart is a waste of money, made for dumb Timmies who like getting swindled" people go?

I never saw anyone complaining like that. I did see a lot of "this is too many products" when it was announced and "what is Jumpstart?" when the set was nearing spoiler time.

Hm still no new angel. The land isn't what I was hoping for. What is that? A field of feathers? I was hoping for some kind of white leyline thing because Angels are white mana construct or some Serra realm pictures. Linvala is greate I guess. Well this will save me some money at least.

I think it's the view over an angels/birds wing when they are being lifted looking toward the sun.

Okay, right off the bat I start laughing at Aven Gagglemaster and how this might be the first goose bird-person in Magic. That's pretty funny.

These arts and cards are just pathetic.

Its like the My Little Pony cards, but as a set on its own.

    ----

Not a fan of pooping on lore like this, it makes the art a joke in a bad way.

I'm trying to understand how a dog is "My Little Pony" in any way? What's pathetic about this? What lore is this ruining? Do you think normal dogs don't exist in any Magic world? You made similar statements before and yet offer no explanation past thinking about MLP, a lot.

By chance, did you think Grizzly Bears was pathetic too? Watch out! It's a realistic animal next to dragons, angels, elves, goblins, and Beebles.

The original commenter seems to be completely unaware of how silly Phil and Kaja Foglio's work have been in the past, or the existence of cards like Sensation Gorger. I was going to mention Beebles too, but I see you've captured (sic.) those. There have always been a few silly things in the game. I think it's a combination of the MLP (his words, not ours) sense and the large male crotch in the artwork, and his or her reaction to those things that is making them uncomfortable.

I think it's so weird to get so upset about dogs having a presence in Magic while not complaining about other normal creatures being in the game, like cats, boars, bears, horses, wolves, gorillas, and birds.

I can admit a couple of the dog's arts are a bit too goofy, but in no way are the arts or them being the dog type ruining the game in any way. It's quite alright to have some lighthearted art now and again. I'd much rather have that than crappy CG art like Grasp of the Hieromancer.

Doggies should NOT be a competitive tribe in Magic:the Gathering , a fun, janky tribe in specialty products yes but ... in a core set.... just a little too cute

    I do have some questions.

Which tribes should be in a core set?
How many cards must a creature type have before it's allowed in a standard set? Centaurs and Minotaurs didn't have many cards and we have gotten lords for them in standard sets, same as druids and archers. Hell, kobolds have lords for them and there aren't many.
What makes this a slippery slope? While I think it is cheating to go "a creature type that didn't have a lord" and then put out a type that technically didn't exist I don't really see the issue.
How come dogs can't be competitive? Cats are competitive enough and keep getting support, they started the same way, just like other creature types.

Note: I don't care that this card exists, I don't like or love it. I won't be buying a box to get it or buying it as a single (unless it's like $1), but it existing doesn't hurt Magic in any way. This latest version of Teferi has a better chance of hurting the game in general more than this "alone in the world was little CatDog" and it definitely isn't hurting the brand or its fantasy.

This entire My Little Pony stuff takes over.

It becomes childish trash fantasy at this point ...

They cater to people that like dogs and cats, ok, fine, but this kind of stuff is just cheap and this stuff hurts immersion in a fantasy world that isnt just silly (it feels more like Narnia, and damages the believability of a fantasy world).

    ----

So yes, this kind of stuff should be put in dedicated Commander products, so people that like dogs/cats can buy exactly what they want.

Its a bad place to put that stuff in a regular magic set.

Alright, so let me get this straight. Them changing hounds to dogs and them making a dog/cat lord legendary is My Little Pony and it's somehow "trash fantasy" because.......reasons?

-First, what is "trash fantasy"? What makes something trash fantasy? Why is Narnia considered bad fantasy? Why is children's fantasy bad? The idea that fantasy has to stick to a strict formula and it can be nothing else actually takes away from the idea of fantasy and is asinine.
-Second, what makes it My Little Pony?
-Third, how in a core set does a inseparable dog and cat duo damage the believability of a fantasy world in a card set that isn't based on any singular world. Watch out, that dog and cat liking each other makes the world crossing spirit dragon that was brought back to life by a time traveling dragon worshiper or the embodiment of magic that came together from combining an undead chick that kills everything she touches, who is dead by her brother's hand and brought back to life by an evil cult, an angel made by a wizard so he could see his loved one again, and thanks to the magic of a silver orb that was made by a time traveling, world crossing silver golem seem less believable. You're right though, that dog and cat teaming up makes all of that sound silly now.
-Fourth, why is changing hound to dog so upsetting to you? Honestly, I thought that should have happened years ago. If Nagas are changed to snakes will you be upset by that too?
-Fifth, why is this card problematic in a Core Set? The newest Teferi is more of a problem than this card.
-Sixth, why would this be more okay in commander? They would need to create enough new card to supply a new type that would need to be shared across multiple decks and therefore would only have maybe a dozen cards, at best, for a new creature type.
-Seventh, you claim a commander set is better because "people can buy what they want" but isn't this being a core set also allowing people to buy what they want?

It seems awfully strange to call this card trash and call other fantasy worlds trash just because hound is changing to dog and that there is now a card where a cat and dog like each other.

    Hang on minute

Looks like we all may have jumped the gun on the $100 price tag of vip packs

    https://news.toyark.com/2020/05/22/magic-the-gathering-double-masters-with-vip-collector-box-information-388935

They say $35-$40 here so that

I still think that price point is rather absurd. The idea of a premium product for a Masters set is essentially giving a premium product its own premium product. It's very strange.

It hit me today, these packs having double rares in them is kind of annoying. Theme boosters are 30 cards and only have a chance at two rares. I get that theme boosters aren't the best, I just couldn't help but notice.

As for the "you don't have to buy it, so what's the problem" argument. It is certainly true that people don't have to buy these more premium packs, but these being all the time and for the price they are shows the company is caring more for money than the health of the game. It's definitely a long vs. short term gain. They have been pushing the envelope this past year or so with far more cards that are becoming problematic so people spend more that way, with far more products, far more premium products, far more ways to spend more, and things that just don't seem necessary.

This is showing a trend and that trend that doesn't have the best light at the end of the tunnel. Remember the first premium product we had was for Alara then it took years later to have the Premium Deck Series (that lasted only three decks) and then we had From the Vault once a year. Now count since Eldraine and suddenly you'll find dozens of premium products and it hasn't even been a full year yet.

Eldraine collectors pack, Eldraine collecters fat pack, that $400 premium bundle, Theros collectors packs, 23 different Secret Lairs with one of them costing $400, and by the time we've hit a full year we'll have a Masters product with its own collectors pack, Zendikar 3 will have its own collectors packs, if not more stuff, and M21 will have a collectors pack. Finally, that doesn't even include the other normal products during this time. Then you get to Christmas and we might have a Zendikar collectors fat pack and $400 bundle, and that's not to mention another 20+ Secret Lairs we'll probably have throughout the year.

Product fatigue set in a while ago and at this point its product abuse. They need to pull back on a lot of this.

Disclaimer: I'm not complaining that I can't afford all of it, in fact I'm glad not to pay for most of this stuff, but the past year and the rest of this year have shown a worrying degree that doesn't look like it will be good for the game in the long run.

Specifically, the "printing broken cards to cater to whales" is a baseless conspiracy and not a very good one. The rest of it is a well reasoned concern.

It's not exactly a conspiracy, it's a way to sell packs to people so that way they can have the best. Sure it's not targeted at whales specifically, but they would be the ones to buy the most. So conspiracy? Not really. Sales strategy? Definitely.

And to be fair we have seen the highest allotment of bannable/strong cards we have seen in a while and only in the last couple of years. Starting with M19 we haven't had this many bannings in a long while and considering they are going to be changing an entire mechanic because of how strong it is that really does lend some credence to the whale selling comment.
