Have anyone been testing Mana Bloom as a 1 of? I have seen some lists running it, but haven't really figured out why it is as good as some people say. It does provide 1 extra mana a turn, but is it really that relevant?
Planning on running a GW RiP-Helm deck in a local toruney this weekend. Any thoughts on the list? Has been a while since I've played MtG now, so I might be a bit rusty.
Personally I love O-Rings, I run 2 main and 1 in board. They provide so much utility and against decks like Dream Halls and Sneak/Show they have worked out quite well for me. I am too running the Helm of Obedience/Rest in Peace-build theese days, but I have found that the Words of War-way to win is not working too well with the rest of the deck, so I have sliced it for an Emrakul as a 3rd wincon. This way I also get to free up some mana fix, and my deck runs only GW. There is a local tournament coming up this weekend, and I will try to post a report from it.
I do have some concerns regarding some of the cards I am playing and would very much like to hear some of your thoughts on it. Maindeck 2x Replenish in a Rest in Peace/Helm of Obedience build. Good or bad? And should I run 3 or 4 Wild Growths? Is Sphere of Safety worth a slot in the board?
Here is my take on the modern mill. I haven't really looked that much into the new Gatecrash cards, but I think I might have to, seeing there is at least some cards that could see some play.
I am taking an BG Loampox build to a local tourney this weekend. I have been testing it for some time, and it seems competitive. The only thing I am a bit concerned about is my SB. Our meta is quite huge, but some arch types are of course to be found. I am expecting High Tide, Affinity, Maverick, RUG, BUG, Reanimator, Burn, UW Miracles and Bant. And maybe some other variants of the already mentioned. I have tried to tweak my SB so it can face most of the challenges, but I keep thinking that there may be some other ways to do it. I would really like some feedback and ideas from you guys. Thoughts on the different match ups are also highly appreciated. Any help is good help, seeing the 1. and 2. price of the tourney is a JTS and a FoW.
Thanks for the tips. I've tried GSZ for some time, but it actually doesn't really do it for me. But you might be right, maybe I should stick to it none the less. As for e tutors, I've always liked to have them as a quick response to my opponents plays, and as a fourth and fifth grove. I can see how a third confinement would be important, and I will add that. 2 o rings is another thing you are right about. I have drawn into that card so many times, and 2 out of 3 times, I really don't need or want it.
Concerning Blood Moon, the Lands guy do play Riftstone Portal, so maybe the card is not that necessary. I will use this week to test out different options, and then let you know how the tourney goes and how the deck played. Thanks again.
There is a local tourney next weekend, and I am planning on running my enchantress list again. This time with some modifications, seeing the meta is changing a bit and I want to test some new cards. I see that Raking Canopy is being played in some of your builds. I really like the card, but haven´t tested it yet. Seeing how well it deals with the Miracle-deck and Lingering Souls, I think it deserves a spot. In my meta there will possibly be 1-2 miracle-decks, 1-2 reanimator, 1 goblins, 1 ETS, 1 lands, 1 dredge, 1-2 Maverick, 1 merfolks, 1-2 burn and 1-2 RUG Delver. It is almost impossible to build a deck that will provide answers to all of them, but I think I am getting there. Any comments?
I would never board out enchantresses. They play such a big part in our draw enigne, and you usually want to have both Argothian Enchantress and Enchantress' Presence on the board anyway. With fewer enchantress effects the deck will run much more slower, and you are too dependent on landing a presence.
Thank you so much for your pointers. As for the Sterling Grove vs. Enlightened Tutor, I have found it quite useful to run a pair of the tutors. I might want to add another Grove, but I don't think I would cut a tutor for it. As for the graveyard hate based sideboard, your ideas makes sense. I'm not sure if I want to completely cut out Wheel of Sun and Moon, considering there are at least two dredge players in my meta as well (although not participating in this tournament), but Surgical Extracation does seem like a very good addition to the sideboard, so I will test it out. Again, thank you so much!
I came 3rd in a small, local tournament today, with a list quite similar to the one I've posted earlier, only change was a Replenish SB instead of a Wheel of Sun and Moon. Again I lost to Elves, even when I managed to land a Humility. I just didn't draw any gas, I were incredibly unlucky. I also lost to Reanimator, which seems like a pretty bad match up for us. He landed a t2 Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur each game, and after that, it is pretty much game. How do you deal with it? As for now, I have played 3x Wheel of Sun and Moon, 1x Ground Seal for graveyard hate, and some other SB-cards to try to match them, but it doesn't seem sufficient enough. Should I consider Faerie Macabre, Surgical Extraction or Leyline of the Void instead, or just accept that Reanimator is a bad match up for me?
Thanks for the pointers. +1 Replenish is something I will try to figure out before the next tournament. An MD Blood Moon has proven to be quite useful to me considering my meta. It usually consists of at least 2 Maverick and 1-2 more UW Stoneblade. I am considering an Emrakul, but I have never liked him much, and I am a bit tired of all the decks running him. Again, thanks for commenting.
I just went 2nd in a small local tournament and won myself a NM Jace, the Mind Sculptor with the decklist I posted earlier. I decided not to run a MD Ground Seal and switched it out for a Nevermore. I beat Storm twice, which to me is quite an accomplishment, it was the matchup I feared the most. I lost to Elves combo before top 8, and lost the final against Stax, which was a deck nobody in our playgroup expected and it wrecked havoc. In retrospect I know I did some misplays in the third game, which may have costed me the victory, but he landed 2x Batterskull, a Hero of Bladehold and Wastelanded the hell out of me. In my defense it had been a long weekend and a long day. I was tired, basically.
The other decks I met was a weird UW Stoneblade, Dredge and RUG Delver. All in all it was a great torunament for me, and I am extremely pleased with how it went down. I had great fun and the Enchantress deck really seems like it is able to put up a fight against almost anyone. At least in my meta.
I am planning on attending a local torunament with my enchantress deck this weekend and I was wandering if any of you could give some feedback to my decklist? I am mostly interested in what you recommend to sideboard against who and if you have any notes/comments to how my deck looks? Improvements, etc.
My meta looks something like this:
2 Maverick, 1 High Tide, 1-2 RU Delver, 1 Reanimator, 1-2 TES, 1 Zoo, 1-2 Dredge, 1-2 Elfball, 1 Merfolk, 1-2 UW/BW Stoneblade, 1 Hive Mind, 1-2 CounterTop, 1 Affinity and 1 RDW. Not sure if all of them are participating in this tournament, but I do want to present a deck that will put up a fight against most of them, if possible.
Without further due, here is the list I am planning to run:
I am abit uncertain about Ground Seal MB, and also if I need 3 Chokes. Concering matchups, my biggest fears are Storm, Delver and Elfball. I am considering adding 1-2 City of Solitude to be able to present an answer to the counterspells in RU Delver and Merfolk, but I am not sure what to cut for it. Any ideas?
I have decided to go mono black pox in my local tournament this week, and not loam as I earlier intended. Last tournament my MB Pox did quite alright, but I really do want to improve this time. There is not much Reanimator in my meta, so I am concidering dropping Leylines from my SB to open up for other cards. I would really appreciate some feed back on my list, as I have tested quite a bit, and the result has been somewhat 50-50.
Syphon Life, Infest and Dark Rituals are the slots I am having doubts about. 23 lands do seem a bit too low. And I see that a lot of you are playing The Rack, which when I played, was a big disappointment. Any ideas on the final tuning? My meta looks something like this: 3x Maverick, 2x Elfball, 1x Merfolk, 1-2x RUG-delver, 1x Team America, 1x Rock, 1x Hive Mind, 2x ANT. I understand I can't do a SB that will provide answers to absolutely everbody, but I do need a SB that can provide me with answers to some of it.
