Going through PT on my phone this morning, looking at potential trades. Then I come upon this: a Roman gold leaf crown symbol and gold type for a common. My first thought was Promoted Trades, but then I realized that is for specific cards & Nature's Lore cannot be a Promoted Trade.

When I clicked on it, a message popped up saying "I <3 Nature's Lore"...

Anyone have a clue what this is about???

    Can you post a screenshot?

Oh, how I miss this deck's glory days.

    When was that exactly?

Not trying to be snarky. The deck's had some good positions in the meta before. I just don't recall, "Glory Day," like Tier 1 or sweeping tournaments left and right. Reasonable amount of Top 8's though (even in Cruise/DTT meta, if I recall -- that's when I did best with the deck anyway lol).

To get back to talking about the deck, I might commit heresy and play only 3 Lightning Bolts. I'm already on 2 helix, but there are so many decks right now built to be mostly bolt-proof and I often find myself cutting some. 3 Bolt, 2 Helix and 2 Blessed Alliance main frees up valuable sideboard space

I think I've seen that occasionally. I've seen like 3 Bolt, 2 Path builds before. Usually alongside a couple Think Twices and other niche tech choices. It's crazy stuff only the likes of Shaun McClauren and his ilk would dare try.

@Leaky Mana: I think it'd be best if you made that offer to the mods via PM than here IMO. But nice to see someone step up.

Also, I think Geist/Midrange is fine in its own thread. They seem happy over there as it is. I used to frequent that one a lot more when I used to play Geist non-stop. They're doing alright. And GreatNate makes some nice content for the thread/Youtube/reddit. It's good to see.

As for Copy Cat, I'm unaware of a thread for that. But of course, I don't peruse these forums nearly as much anymore. I just go to the threads that I'm already subscribed to most of the time.

3 cards spoiled for MM17 - Griselbrand, Domri Rade and some jank angel. Presumed Snapcaster Mage on the box.

3 cards keeping me from preordering MM17. Griselbrand has never recovered after rotating after Standard. He's only just now cracking $10 again and he's going straight back down. The other two aren't T1 modern playable. And worth practically nothing.

Well, if that is the general census from the community, then it should keep the prices of the packs down from going over MSRP. This means for reasonably priced sealed and draft tournaments.

I'm now hoping (betting) on weak than previous Modern Masters (sorry, but call me an opportunist).

Well...maybe a little stronger than Modern Masters 2015. Some balance between the first and second would be best (IMO as strong if not better than the first Modern Masters would be spectacular -- but I recognize the reasons why that can't quite be the case).

It's far from dying. People who run around claiming that are either a limited/standard/EDH player who does not understand Legacy, or one of the few who is just sore about WotC ditching GPs and does not realise there are a gazillion other much cooler Legacy events all over the world.

People are pouring into Legacy especially from Modern. Some people say it's because Modern also now has become expensive. I don't think this is the case. It is plainly because Modern and Standard are less enjoyable formats, and people flock over to Legacy no matter how desperately WotC tries to shove Standard and Limited down peoples throats.

"Pouring in" might not be the phrase to use, but yes it's a final resting ground for players, as they filter in through Standard/Limited --> Modern --> Legacy.

To add to this, Noxious Revival screams Johnny/mid-level Spike card. These types of players love to experiment with this card. Guess it's not too much of a surprise then. Also, some people might be trying to replace probe with other Phyrexian mana cards. I know it doesn't have a 1-1 correlation (Probe to this), but I've seen people brew and try to patch up their decks with strange tech like this post-ban.

It's not really Death's shadow that won, it's more Jund with some Death's shadows ;-)

I'm not fond of the fact that Jund has taken over Deaths Shadow like an alien parasite... Is there possibly a version of the old combocentric DS that's still viable?

More or less, I feel the same. I really liked the 4-Color all-in explosive variant. T-T I might be a little biased, as I don't own Goyfs. lol

It's probably dead though. The Jund build does seem pretty reasonable; watched it on camera a lot all weekend. It seems really good.

The "fuss," as you put it, is that there some hardliners who believe Nahiri is the only way to do Jeskai in a competitive field. I am not one of them. I doubt, however, that three weeks of match results in a very limited field is going to win hearts and minds.

That's exactly my point though. I think it's silly that people are so fixated on the 2-3 different builds and are arguing over the minute details. When in reality, none of the builds have any serious leg up over each other. (Not talking about you specifically, just saying the trend of this thread)

I have no intentions of winning hearts and minds with FNM results. Hence why I typed "data" in quotes. I just posted it for the hell of it.

What do you see as a good alternative then? The problem I always have with other Jeskai lists is that their wincons are generally slower, or more fragile, or do not solve the issues Nahiri has:
-flash variants are slower and more fragile, and although they have the upsides of not having to tap out your clock is still too slow for tron and combo
-other walkers generally seen in a more controlling build only worsen the problems Nahiri has
-Kiki combo is more fragile both due to removal and having to draw two pieces, requires much more space in the deck, and is not that much faster than Nahiri
-Geist midrange decks I do like a lot, but they trade weaknesses that Nahiri has off with their own (and geist midrange already has a very good and acrive primer anyways)

I honestly try different jeskai lists all the time but I never report on them because they are generally underwhelming. Even though the deck has clear issues, I still think Nahiri is the best wincon for modern jeskai control right now because it has such a fast clock once board control is established. On top of that, one of the major issues many pros have repeated about modern control in general is "drawing the wrong half of your deck". Nahiri's +2 eases that problem significantly and it's generally the thing I miss the most when trying other wincons.

More or less agreed here, as far as different builds are concerned. You just trade one set of problems for another. Some meta might favor one over the other slightly, but that's as far as it goes.

We can try the Saheeli Rai/Cat blink builds. That's an area that hasn't been discussed all that much, as far as I can tell.

eBay, Amazon, and TCGPlayer tends to be the usual places. Otherwise, sometimes some online stores like Cardhaus (can't really remember the names) are good. I'm not too familiar with most of those though. I personally would just do eBay/TCGPlayer/Amazon.

Recent "data" at the FNM level with Jeskai Nahiri.

    2-1 Merfolk
    2-0 Eldrazi-Tron
    2-0 Jeskai Ascendancy
    2-1 Infect

    2-1 RG TitanShift
    2-0 UW Puresteel Paladin/Artifact Vehicle Draw-*****.dec
    2-0 Skred Red
    1-1-1 UW Control (Timed out)

    This week
    2-0 RG Ponza/Walker Super Friends
    2-0 Jund
/Dropped to hang out with friends instead

Not sure if it's the town I'm in or the stores I go to...so Idk if the players are straight garbage or whatever...but the deck's been holding up more than just fine for me. As far as my build is concerned, I played the list similar to the one at the Osaka(?) Aether Revolt RPTQ a few months back...which is basically the list everyone else is running. "Unique inclusions" would be Jace Beleren, 1 Mainboard Negate, and 1 Electrolyze. Anger of the Gods didn't seem all that necessary, so it was relegated to the sideboard. 2 Geist of Saint Trafts and 1 Elspeth, Sun's Champion in the side as well. Geist put in some serious work in some of the match-ups.

Jund Match-up in a nutshell: Nahiri's -2 is pretty sweet; even if she gets immediately bolted, she's a 2-for-1.

Idk if Nahiri's the bees' knees, but she's been putting in serious work for me. Simply another flavor in a sea of options for Jeskai finishers. If you don't like to tap out for Nahiri, just replace the package with more Restos, maybe reconfigure a few counters here and there. And then have at it...

The variants of Jeskai are more or less the same, honestly. Regardless of the win-con, ultimately the play style doesn't change all that much, so I don't really see all the fuss between the variants (Nahiri, Flash Creatures, and Draw-Go/Gearhulk/1-BombCard). Control is still control in modern. "Bad." I personally like the axis she fights on, so I'm sticking with her.

Been meaning to try out Grixis for some perspective -- once I get all the cards.

Hello Jeskai Nahiri friends. Been a while since I've checked the pages here. Anything new as far as placements and tech innovation?

I think I saw a Nahiri list in Tokyo do well for their Worlds Qualifier or something (Top8) about a month or two back. I don't think much was new as far as that list goes. Just a couple sideboard choices different and maybe a "flex" spot change here or there. Flex spot being usually a singleton Anger of the Gods. The land base didn't seem to incorporate Spirebluff Canals, if I remember correctly.

Been jamming my list here and there. I'm still pretty satisfied with it, but I haven't been able to compete in any large events. No new data from my end anyway. So yeah, what's new guys?

You should really be asking this question in the Bogles thread. You're much more likely to get Bogle-specific advice there.

As for Elspeth, yes, that card can see Modern play. It sees play primarily in Zoo, although it occasionally makes an appearance in Death & Taxes and WX control.

Unfortunately, I don't know whether or not Elspeth can be run as a sideboard card in Bogles. I suspect that it's not good there, because it doesn't seem consistent with the Bogles game plan.

I've never seen Zoo lists run Elspeth. Perhaps I'm not very well-versed on the deck archetype.
