After seeing this thread, this idea popped into my head. I did some research, and I found a similar deck called Bant choke
So early game land disruption (Boomerang, Sea's claim) are huge blows to an opponent's tempo, but come with awful card advantage. The idea of this deck is that if your land disruption is all enchantment-based, then Eidolon of Blossoms & Verduran Enchantress can reclaim that card advantage mid-game.
I recently made a varolz deck but it was more like a +1/+1 counter stompy deck it was okay and won some games. Sharing it here in case it gives someone inspiration
I have this deck together and I will be playing it until dragons/origins rotates.
Some things I'm going to try that hasn't been discussed here yet.
My colorless land replacement for blighted cataract is drownyard temple. Nagging thoughts, Pieces, and Pour all dump lands into our gy and temple can pseudo-ramp which is exactly what we're trying to do.
Warping Wail and Spatial Contortion might be overlooked because they're not blue and may be good sideboard material in some meta's.
Hydrolash also could be good against some agro mathcups. It's often overlooked because shrink effects are usually weak but the draw a card might make it playable
Correct. Also Artisan of Kozilek can also block a highborn ghoul with my version of intimidating. Do you dislike this change?
I always thought that it was a mistake to "hard code" artifact into intimidate. IIRC when making intimidate to replace fear all colorless creatures, including artifact creatures, couldn't block intimidators, but was deemed too powerful.
@silvercut I know what I am trying to do is strange. Look at these other attachments, and you might be able to get what I am trying to do. Make 3 components of protection (shrouded intimidate and shielded) Each of the components could be used independently.
You totally caught me! I wasn't trying to make uber a keyword. This question is actually a rules theory idea I am toying with to blend intimidate, fear, shroud, hexproof, and protection.
I know I know I took out Leatherback Baloth, but I think it's worth it. You can respond to removal and tick up undying guys, it can trigger Experiment one, and it can have a counter for the avatar. So much synergy!
The deck is VERY tight on space, but I always try to add something to a deck and this might warrant a look.
This might be crazy, but here's my case for the card.
Attacking into a lifelinker you flash devour what they block so they don't gain life.
Devouring a geist if you have it out is good.
Devours Dryad when she is being outclassed you can then Scooze her away before damage.
Devouring gives counters for when you play avatar.
Can cast in response to a Pyroclasm or Anger of the gods it can live and be ready to attack next turn.
It may be too gimicky in its current form, but with some playtesting I can cull the weak synergies.
The deck can play aggressive or grindy, depending on the matchup.
Am I crazy or is Lotus Bloom good? If you get it on turn 1 you can cast Mastery or Walk on turn 4 or Warp + Mine. That's not going to happen often but late game you can use them to hard cast an eldrazi. It essentially replaces extraplanar lens in the old snow-covered version.
Okay I don't know how I stumbled onto this thread, but I love the deck. Here are my completely unsubstantiated thoughts. First this deck (not the time attack version) seems like a mash up of Turbo-Fog, MonoU Tron, and to a much lesser extant UW Miracles, so I scoured those threads to see if there was any tech that we could steal.
Land: Mikokoro, Center of the Sea Even with all the draw effects and a dicier mana base turbo fog still puts in 2 I think we can do the same Halimar Depths was mentioned here, and I think it looks amazing Shelldock Isle I don't know if it's good but it might allow us to keep chaining if we stall. you can buyback the walk the aeons if you cast it.
Disruption: Condescend and Repeal are mainstays in MonoU tron, but I haven't seen too much about them in this thread. Cyclonic Rift can be used as early disruption and late game time walk if you stall. Whirlpool Whelm The clash is like a little mini scry, and if you Halimar or Serum on first turn you can set up a 2 mana griptide.
I made a decklist, but in no way have I tested it. Yes it really is just blue for piracy charm. The mana base is in no way set in stone, so feel free to monkey with that. I know that tarpit probably won't attack when we have out bridge, but when we don't draw bridge, add a charm and it's 5 damage. I may just be overvaluing the charms, but they seem so good to me. When you haven't found rack pieces and your opponent is already out of cards the instant discard is amazing. You can snipe things that can get under bridge, or make a pre-cranial plated thing too big to attack. Plus you can use multiple charms on the same target, and make the card advantage up latter. Oh and the echoing truths are for Leylines.
I don't have a list actually. I'm actually just looking to get into modern and this deck caught my eye purely for nostalgia factor. I played a deck back in the day with Bottomless Pit and Ensnaring Bridge, and funeral charming away topdecks was always the best.
Space is really tight in this deck, so Isochron is probably a pipe dream, especially if you are thinking about sticking in waste not. At first blush I would guess that you could cut duress to make room for the 8charms.
Has anyone tried a blue splash ? The allied color mana base is less painful, and bounce could take care of leylines. Most importantly The weakness of discard in geneal is the opponents topdeck .. but with 8 instant discard spells (piracy charm and funeral charm) I would think we could mitigate that... Heck it would also be fun if you could stick one on Isochron Scepter... what do you cut?.... I dunno, but still it would be fun.

For example:
Uber means "This creature has flying and first strike"

Miracles:
If you focus on Library Manipulation with Halimar Depths Serum Visions and Telling Time maybe it opens the door to Vanishment and Devastation Tide
Devastation tide looked promising, but you would have to replay draw engine pieces if you cast it late game I thought maybe adding Skyscribing but then I thought I was digressing too much.
Disruption:
Condescend and Repeal are mainstays in MonoU tron, but I haven't seen too much about them in this thread.
