I don't think that it is graveyarded art despite how much it looks like shadowmoor art. Notice the outline of the guy who is depicted, he doesn't have the ears of shadowmoor elves and seems too tall to be a kithkin. Course then again, the art could have been graveyarded because the spell's target didn't look like it was someone native to lorwyn.

@jango why not run a better cycling creature than yoked plowbeast?

From what I have heard from some people (note; I am not claiming testing!) 27-28 lands works best in here, which makes sense to me as this deck is essentially the red bastard cousin of old draw-go counter control in terms of requiring stable land drops.

the next 15 were horrible (i opened a playset of warp world lol)
the card has been reprinted a few times which might lower its cost, but it is the centerpiece of a widely played type 2 deck these days. You could sell those for something if you aren't using them.

  • posted a message on MaRo hints at Lights' returning mechanic(s)
Actually i think phasing could be an interesting mechanic to return just because it has a huge amount of design space left in it (or at least design space that was used poorly the first time around so that no one remembers it now).

And, very few people would expect it as many people only think of the weirdness it caused under pre-6th edition rules and before the idea of interacting with out of game cards came about.

Somewhat like how few people anticipated the return of kicker because of some of the negative statements made by the maro and the design team about how it was too broad in scope.

The mechanic isn't that bad (Bloodghast) it's just that if done in excess it could hurt vampires as an archetype because you need to have good ways of getting someone's life total below 10 before those cards become relevant.

And live in Ethiopia all your life? Wink

I eat Ethiopian food every weekend and it is some of the best food that i have ever had. They also have tons of cool historical sights from the ancient period through the late middle ages (like the carved stone churches at Lalibela or the Stelae of the Axumite period) as well as their own cool art-history there.

There are probably way worse places to live, particularly in Africa, than Ethiopia.

As much as I think that Garuk will end up as a normal lone-wolf wise/noble barbarian, I really wish that he would fall deeper into his curse and become teh evil. I think we have had a wise/noble loner barbarian before....)

I might be wierd, but I can also imgine Garruk doing those things.
I agree, of all of the new planeswalkers Garuk seems to have the least developed personal code. Outside of the context of "the hunt" I don't think he believes in ethics at all and he doesn't really seem to believe in morality. In this way he is philosophically different from almost all other green walkers who in the past have typically focused on the communal theme of the "oneness of nature" rather than "survival of the fittest" which Garuuk epitomizes.

Of the new planeswalkers, I am really not sure whether he will end up "good" or "bad" in the end...or maybe he will be an anti-hero and do both.

Also artificial shortage drives prices on the secondary market, if retailers are lucky even they can charge more, but WotC doesn't get a cent out of it, they only risk selling less overall.
Exactly, creating an artificial shortage doesn't increase wotc's revenues by any appreciable amount, it just increases the money made off of the lower amount of product they ship out (admittedly they have to pay less for printing, but I would guess that the cost per unit in printing cards goes down with greater volume). If wotc have gone for an artificial shortage, it will probably only be for the first print run as after that point it would simply damage the availability of cards for low level tournament play (causing people to become frustrated and lose interest) as well as reducing the profits that wotc can get out of the set. Ideally wotc wants to move as many units of each set as it can over the course of its print run. If their marketting research suggests that creating a shortage of a set at the start of its print run is the best way to do this, then they may do so. However at the end of the day/in the long run, given Zendikar's apparent popularity among both casual and tournament players, I think that the final total of the print run will be no lower than say ARB or CON were and probably higher.

  • posted a message on Will Zendikar kill Magic for the casual crowd?
I've played mainly casual since Urza's Destiny and I own maybe 4,000-5,000 cards including a complete set of Arabian Nights and I rarely play in anything more competitive than an fnm. "Hardcore" casuals do exist and are probably more common than many people think.

I highly doubt that this effected nearly as many people as red circle of death on first gen Xbox 360s.

And it is fixable. Given nintendo's overall track record for reliability this doesn't change my opinion of the company significantly...they have done a few other dumb things in the past after all (powerglove, virtual boy, no voice chat and pretty much no online games at launch for wii)

  • posted a message on What has blue got now?
Mono blue hasn't been played (except for Sonic Boom that came and went faster than about anything) in YEARS.

Blue is lacking the strong powerbase that it had in the form of faeries but will continue to be played as one of the components of a lot of multicolor decks.

    U/W control
    Mill
    5cc
    Esper
    Grixis
    Chandra Control

    all use blue.

    Quote from heroicraptor
Lmao. Faeries is definitely not tier 1 in Legacy.

there is a fish deck that has gotten some good results running spell strutter sprites and a few other faeries that calls itself faeries even if it isn't much of a tribal deck compared to the standard and extended decks.

  • posted a message on Baneslayer Angel - is it a one time deal?
The problem with baneslayer angel is that it obsoletes basically every other imaginable control deck finisher that wizards could print pushing control into running white. This is an example of the kind of card that restricts design space that wizards does not like in core sets in general with a few exceptions that define their colors like lightning bolt. Having the best finisher in the game is not a typical trait of white though and I do not know how long baneslayer will stick around. I think that they will be in M11 and will then get the axe.

My guess is that the card has nothing to do with +1/-1 but just is one that has recently been given a slight last minute change like Skullclamp
