Hey guys. I really like your “budget” list. I honestly think that this is a good direction to go. Path is good against the field and it kills everything we need. It is a non-bo with blood moon, which is why it’s in my sideboard. We lose the “oops we win”, but we gain the consistency of path being relevant in most matchups. It also ups the instant and sorcery count for revelers. Basically, game 1 is a grindy control deck and we sideboard into hate. I’m trying Kaya in my main, now that path is in the main. It has synergy and helps protect Kaya. I’m going to take this deck to a mid sized event in June. I’ll let you know what I find.

There has been talk about dreadhorde, but a list hasn’t been suggested.

Regarding the one drop issue I am currently testing a list that shaves some two mana spells for some path to exiles. Changed the mana base to reflect a bit more dependence on the white and relegated blood moon to the side. Shaved some revelers for some dreadhorde.

I just can’t get the notion that turn one discard, turn two, two mana drop is ridiculously powerful and dreadhorde increases the possibility of that. I played legacy a lot and maybe it comes from that. I feel like since we don’t have tarmogoyfs, our deck can go a different tempo direction.

Just my 2 cents and thinking out loud while testing.

I feel like she is more in line with the strategy of this deck than Nahiri and we play Nahiri.

Also, Dreadhorde Arcanist is getting a lot of attention. Can that replace something in our deck? Maybe adding path to increase one mana cost spells? Seems like a good dark confidant for this deck. Am I off?

EDIT I mentioned dreadhorde because the Japanese community specifically mentioned it’ll be good in this deck. Also, the red promise casts the spells in the yard, right? So we get three tokens out of one spell? Isn’t this worth considering over some other spells? If we add path to increase one mana spells, it seems this deck can some major card advantage.

    Thanks for the answer.

I was thinking about Saheeli and did a couple of rounds with her main deck. Is she not as viable? Would it be possible to have her over some other things? I don’t know if 1/1 tokens producers are good enough for a 3 mana card. Would love to know thoughts on her.

    Fantastic answers guys, thanks.

Seems like the double black is a difficult thing. Isn’t this primarily a black/red deck? I thought double back would be fairly easy, especially since some of you do lilis.

I will try with summits first as you say. I don’t mind spending money, but I feel fastland prices are inflated beyond their usefulness. Also, they have a reprint target right on their head.

Hello folks. I am new to this deck (not to Modern) as well. I am currently 80% of the way to acquiring the cards. Should finish soon.

A couple of questions and a comment.

Is the fastland necessary for this deck? Can Dragonskull Summit surmise?

Would you see this deck as a sleeper that needs a couple of cards to explode? Which grindy deck is it good against?

I feel Ashiok is what this deck needed? It is good against all of the weak matchups mentioned above. It is hate against (not solely, in combination with this deck’s discard and removal, of course) Phoenix, Tron, Dredge and Scapeshift variants. Am I off?

I am looking forward to joining this fray. I am usually a hardcore Elves player and have contributed a lot to that thread, btw. Still my first love, but I have always wanted a grindy midrange deck to add to my arsenal.

    @kysg

Finale of Devastation. It’s a fixed version of Green Sun’s. No more turn 1 ramp, but it is 1 green mana “cheaper” than Chord. I don’t know if it is worth it, but certainly worth a try. The x=10 clause may be relevant in some games. But, ultimately, it is a turn 2 x=1 at fastest, so I don’t know if it is worth it. One tempo slow, is my guess, although it is one turn faster than chord.

Being sorcery does hurt though. It might be better in WG combo elves? It seems like it is half a turn faster. You can combo off turn three fairly consistently.

    EDIT:

Wait a minute. Why does it say “and/or”? Does this mean what I think it means? Is this the busted card that Elves has been looking for?

    EDIT:

Upon further research, it seems we only get 1 creature out of the deal. It becomes, suddenly, a worse Green Sun’s.

I am the guy on Sultai. My only record that is worth noting is a top 8 on a mid sized event here in Japan. I really love the list (still), but it suffers from the saturated lightning bolt market we have now.

Just to note about the Sultai list, but the touch blue works primarily because of Phantasmal Image, not Nissas. Phantasmal copying Shamans was the reason why I created the list. The full list is in the link below, if the link still works.

Vivien might be useful. Flashing our creatures and having a choice on which creatures to “draw” is something. Making opponents wonder what is coming out makes them question their plays. This all for lead the stampede mana makes me wonder for sure.

You know, you have something here. This build is truly grindy and can win out of nowhere.

    I’ll try it too.

Hi guys, first time posting on this Burn thread.

Just went 3-0 at a modern FNM. I played against tiered decks. Round 1 vs Titanshift, Round 2 vs UW Control and Round 3 vs Izzet Phoenix.

I played Skewer main and dropped Skullcrack to the sideboard.

I know its an FNM, but Skewer looked really good.

Just thought I would add a data point to your guys' discussion.

Interesting you say this because I’m pretty sure Kamigawa was soon after The Last Samurai and near The Memoirars of Geisha.

Ya, I’m trying to evaluate that new glimpse. Four mana is a lot, like coco level, but going back to a chord deck and having the glimpse as a one of to Chord, I tap and go nuts might be a thing. If not, I can only see this replacing the coco slot as having 8 4 drops seems a bit much. I’ll test this though as I tested all other potential cards. Might be a thing.

I use Nissa, Vital Force. I won several games with it, but it is not necessary. I use it because 1) I have a foil one and I love it, 2) flavor and 3) it is good vs control/grindy matchups if it is drawn. I don’t think its something that is a silver bullet for this deck, but I have played this deck for a long time to know that one sideboard card I insert because I love it won’t ruin my chances for winning a tournament Smile
