May 28, 2019mikeduges posted a message on The End of an EraWow, I am genuinely sad. I will always reflect on the great days of contributing to the Modern Elves forum. Man, some amazing people on here. Please please let us know what your new site will be and also how we can contribute to it. It’s hard to let such a jewel go.Posted in: Articles

Thanks so much!
I have never tried this, but it will be wonderful if you guys could make me a banner. I will, of course, use the banner on this site.
I would love a Stoneforge Mystic in the middle. With two color prot swords (anyone that looks good, I trust you guys) above/on the side with two Hymn to Tourachs (this one too) on the far right and Thoughtseize on the left? If you could post a a line that says "the ying and the yang," that will be fun. I really trust artistic eyes, so I'm not picky. I will trust your guys' sense. I hope this will be ok.
Thanks so much!
I had mom for a while in my deck. Although it definitely shined in some match ups, even keeping tarms in check sometimes, it was quite a bit underwhelming late game. After the board is established or when you are neck in neck for a great top deck, flipping over mom felt like a downer. You can definitely try it and I did win some match ups with her, but generally underwhelming. I think the control meta makes it so that her prot is slightly less great.
Let me know if you find out differently,

The fact of the matter is, any given list will only run two Phyrexian Crusader. It's utility extends just attacking and can be used for anything from defensive, pitching to Mox and discarding against a Gerard Verdict. It would seem like that a utility card and a solid option such as Phyrexian Crusader will offer a much more consistently explosive start and solidify the "court." The situation in which the opponent has little life and some poison counters to only lose by a little bit could be a problem. However, this seems like an option much less frequent compared to the times where I am not able to hit a Hymn or Gatekeeper in a crucial moment. That's purely my experience and could vary of course. I am also not dogmatic about this option, just curious as to see what others have experienced. Anyone who has used mix poison and damage with success want to pitch in?
I want to open up a discussion that is slightly controversial (it seems) among B/W players. The question is "why not use Phyrexian Crusader?" I know this is like apostasy for many of you, but I don't see why not. Protection against white and red are powerful enough abilities to warrant a spot. The poison counters occasionally help when the opponent gains life like a mad man/woman. But most of all, it is much easier on the mana. I have found that many times I would be hard pressed to find the right mana for Mirran Crusader and Hymn to Tourach, as well as Gatekeeper. By switching to Phrexian Crusader, Zoo match ups seem to be positive and many of the benefits that Mirran Crusader provides is there, with easier mana. The deck can easily accommodate the single white sources and be stable in producing two black mana. If push comes to shove it can be sacrificed to Chrome Mox. This, also, seems to provide a good reason to run Phyrexian over Mirran. Whenever I have a Mox and a Mirran, I'm not able to turn one Hymn as easily. I will have to sacrifice my other black source in order to power out a Hymn. Phyrexian Crusader will provide the black mana for the Mox that will help in Hymn, Gatekeeper and double IOK, Thoughtseize or Cabal. It makes sense to me.
The way B/W discard/control beats people is by controlling their hand and board, than using a sword or equipment to power through. If that is the case, equipping a sword to Phyrexian Crusader, or Auriok for that matter, is as fast as anything else. It seems that our decks are not designed for "destroying them as fast as we can" but rather, "control than beat with one or two things that have the sword." If that is the case, I don't see why Phyrexian Crusader, nor Auriok who has an amazing ability won't be viable.
Comments will be appreciated.
On another note, how do you guys combat combo? I have a hard time with them as I'm not quite sure what hands to keep. I'm assuming any discard hand will help, but at what point do you mull or keep? is one discard spell enough to stall them? Or shooting for a 3 discard hand better? I feel like having no one drops hurts, but is a hymn significantly better that I would keep a hand with only Hymn as my disruption?
Kind of situational again, but interesting food for thought.
I was wondering why many lists don't run Jotun Grunt. The cc is affordable and it's a two drop that kills grave yards. If not the MB, why not the SB? Just curious to see what you guys think.
Thanks for the suggestion. I was leaning towards BaM too. I'm going to switch my deck around.
Maybe if Tim is still reading could also chime in on this one. What is usually the first equipment to fetch up with SFM? I know it is completely dependent on the situation, but I have a hard time deciding sometimes. Is the extra creature from Battleskull worth the possibility of my SFM being Plowshared? Or is getting a sword better off sometimes because you get a hit in. I guess my questions will be, against what deck will be more advantageous to get the sword vs battleskull.
Thanks
I've been piloting B/W since I started Legacy in Feb. (new to Legacy) and am loving it. Was wondering what you guys do against combo. I know the only thing we can is hand disruption, but is that good enough?
I'm also vacillating quite a bit of which sword to use. My meta (in Japan) is so diverse that there really is not dominating deck. What do you guys put in as a "catch all" sword? I have SoFI now, but am thinking about switching to Body and Mind main.
Lastly, is the Chrome Mox package kind of a waste late game? How do we cope with that?
I love this thread, let's keep it going.
I will try and see if the ranger will work.

I'm running both nest invader and putrid leech. Do you think that I should cut invader? My reasoning for putting it in is the ramp so I can drop my Abyssal on turn three more consistently as well as provide a blocker and attach sword. Let me know what you think will work better.
So far my mana base is pretty consistent in dropping the bird on turn one. as well as hitting blighting or maelstrom pulse on turn two. What would you suggest replacing with bird? I was thinking possibly Duress or Inquisition of Koz if the bird had to go.
Let me know guys.

I'm going to be attending my local Grand Prix here in Japan this coming weekend. I am going to enter with a Rogue Jund deck. I would love some respectful critique on my deck. Please let me know what you think, what my strengths and weakness are, what I should possibly consider and finally how I can improve my deck. I love Abyssals and cannot think of pulling them out, unless completely necessary. I also cannot spend that much more money (as I already do for my Legacy deck) and would like to stick to this color scheme.

The synergy of turn 1 bird, turn two nest invader with a possible bolt up and turn three four drop or planeswalker or even sword hit (equipping to nest invader) seems to work great in testing. It seems that in Extended, one needs a lot of "bodies" on the field to block. The weak creatures such as birds and mana tokens seems to provide the food it needs for Sarkhan and swords later in the game. Also the interplay between Bloodbraid elf and a possible sword drop is attractive. Lastly, my mana curve is low so it provides a fast and efficient beatdown. Obviously this is mere speculation as I have not tested it with every deck out there. I also need an effective sideboard plan. If you could help me with this so I can at least be competitive, that will be much appreciated. Thank you for your help.
