I'm trying to throw together Valakut/Scapeshift Ramp. I might add black for disruption. How does Scapeshift work with Valakut again?
You have a Prismatic Omen out and cast Scapeshift, sac most if not all your lands and go get 4 Valukuts along with any other lands you want\need. Everything enters at the same time, counts as mountains and triggers Valakut for lethal damage.
Potentially, I guess 8-post decks could also run glimmerpost, because why not?!
out of interest:
I haven't played enough faeries to know, would that deck be able to use aether vial effectively?
Can anybody think of anything broken we can do with gifts ungiven?
Oh wow, I didn't notice Vesuva was in Timespiral Block. And Gifts came to my mind too. I can also see shenanigans ensuing with Mirror Gallery.
Zoo would be a little better with grim lavamacer but there would be more decks that could compete with zoo. And sword of the meek needs to be legal. It's a combo component that is not degenerate, you don't autolose when your opponent assembles a sword and a thopter foundry, while dark depths hexmage is a lot more degenerate and might warrant the ban.
I agree that Sword of the Meek shouldn't be banned. But if this becomes a real format, the ban-list has a chance of changing around.
I don't think 8post or urzatron would be anywhere near broken, I just said I looked forward to playing them. Also, when did I add my name to a petition?
Who are you to tell me I'm a troll. And btw I'm all in on this format. But I don't like its ban list and starting set. And don't include me in your list in any of your 2 groups.
Which reminds me, Masques was earlier than Mirrodin, so why is that better? Even if wotc did it from Masques on up, Zoo would still be available with even more things to add. However, I never played with that set so I don't know what else is in it.
Don't call Zoo "Naya goodstuff". It's zoo and it would be too good in this format. Wild cacatl + tarmogoyf + kotr + path to exile + lightning bolt + punishing fire + grove of the burnwillows + lightning helix + loam lion, ETC. TOO. POWERFUL.
I didn't call it that, I even said I found it on the wotc community boards..
Here's something I found on the wotc community boards:
possible decks:
- Faeries (with Jace2)
- Elves (with Devoted Druid and Ezuri)
Either Faeries or Elves should have Aether Vial.
- Boros
- Valakut
- Dragonstorm
- Soul Sisters
- MARTYR OF SANDS CONTROL.
- Seismic Swans
- Caw-Blade
- Kuldotha Red - BEAR IN MIND SHRAPNEL BLAST IS LEGAL!
- Merfolk... there's not as much overlap between this and Faeries as you'd expect
- Exarch Twin
- Hypergenesis (with Cascade cards to trigger it)
- Dredge
- A deck using Tarmogoyf and Bloodbraid Elf. Naya goodstuff, basically. That or Jund... hard call. They use a lot of the same cards. It's a tradeoff - Knight of the Reliquary or Putrid Leech? Wooly Thoctar and Wild Nacatl or Blightning and Maelstrom Pulse?
Other powerful cards of note:
- Plow Under
- Meloku the Clouded Mirror
- Jace. This guy is important!
- Meddling Mage
- Tidehollow Sculler
- Kitchen Finks
- Putrid Leech
- Vengevine
- Noble Hierarch
- Cryptic Command
- Path to Exile
- Reveillark
- Summoning Trap
- Figure of Destiny
- Sakura-Tribe Elder
- Coiling Oracle
The eight decks I'd choose:
Naya Goodstuff
Caw-Blade (no Jace)
Raffinity
Faeries (with Jace)
Dragonstorm
Elves
Boros OR Red Deck Wins (with Figure of Destiny... and Magus of the Moon?)
Dredge
Makes me think of what other decks are possible...land destruction, B\W tokens..
Wizards will make me play in tournaments once again if this becomes legal, seriously, this format will get a ton of people from my playgroup (area) to start playing magic again. Wizards! Please do this
Is there something we can do to ensure Wizards will seriously consider into making this a legal format?
Maybe a 'petition sheet' or something like that?
You beat me to it. We need to get a petition going asap. I would do it myself...but I don't know how to get started. ._.
If this format came into fruition in the real world, I'd probably sell all my duals/wastelands to buy ravnica duals and staples cards for this format. Seriously. This. Format. Look. Awesome.
On a side note, would it be wise to cautiously start buying duals now so that if/when this format becomes a reality (not saying it will, but just in case), I don't have to get ridiculously expensive duals? I wish wizards would have said "if this works well online, we will make it a real format" so I could purchase them off ebay tonight... Oh well...
Also, what cards from the Kamigawa set would actually be relevant in this format? They banned Jitte and top, the only other one I can think of is Gifts, but what other cards would you guys predict being played (for funzies, not for investing advice)?
I could see Kataki, War's Wage seeing play. Hm..Ghostly Prison maybe. I've been scanning cards on gatherer, trying to see what I would want to play if Modern becomes a reality.

Edit:
I can see Azusa, lost but Seeking doing hilarious things in Scapeshift combo.
Not that i'm aware of atm, It would be nice though...
I hope the turn out is good then. I wanna be able to play Urzatron outside of legacy.

Mind explaining what 8post is?

@StealthBadger
I completely forgot about Urzatron. I guess people would be able to play Karn with the Urza lands outside of legacy. (hopefully)

Ooohh, Meloku and Kokusho. Forgot about them...

I agree with this. My brain's already brewing with ideas.
