The really lame thing was when they brought Fading back as Vanishing: the only change was killing the creature when you took the last counter off instead of the following upkeep.
Lame maybe but it "needed" to be fixed, in a way. Dying when you can't remove a counter is weird, compared to when you remove the last (other cards works like this. Also, I like how it used time counters so you could interect with all other crazy stuff in Timespiral that cared about those counters (If only we could proliferate back then... things getting slowed in time and what not).
On the actual topic:
- Ingest: Sure it is slow, but I feel it's just there to help the processors and be flavorful. It doesn't really raise the cost of any cards. I do like the processors, they're really interesting and the design is just alien and fun enough. At the prerelease, I saw someone Quarantine Field my minion just to see it getting processed right after. Good stuff.
- Devoid: I like it for a lot of reasons already mentionned i nthe thread.
Lovely ability.
And that art is just great, bieautiful colors. Makes me want to play some BUG eldrazi deck with some great stuff like From Beyond, Complete Disregard, Wasteland Strangler, etc. Could even pair with his budy Void Winnower for even more denial.
What was needed for this deck is a focus, so that the Spirit/Arcane strategy could work. This deck could have been a 5 Color Spirit/Arcane deck (which I tried) but it wouldn’t be as synergetic as with Karador. He helps in multiple ways:
- He is a Spirit (Triggers other Spirits effects & benefits from Spirit Bonus).
- BGW makes him good for recursion strategies, and Kamigawa spirits love that (Soulshifts, black Arcane Spells, etc.).
- He can help with creature recursion himself.
- Since you can CAST the Spirits from your graveyard, Spirits with the “Whenever you cast a Spirit or Arcane spell” will trigger.
Another thing to keep in mind is that this deck is mainly for fun! Kamigawa was a very interesting and flavorful block. I wished to do a deck that was built in a different way and that is still powerful. It’s also not very expensive to start with, and can be foiled up easily to enjoy all the cool Arts that Spirits and Arcane have to offer.
Deck History
This deck was built before without Karador, Ghost Chieftain. It suffered from having a big lack of synergy with his general. This version is far more stable and enjoyable.
Also the lands are not exactly like the deck list for now. This land setup is the optimal one (I’m lacking 2 original duals).
I will be playing this deck with friends more often from now on and will give more feedback as it goes.
Stats:
- Spirit with " Whenever you cast a Spirit or Arcane spell " Trigger: 6
- Spirit with Soulshift: 5
- Arcane Spells with Splice: 7
Strategy
Here’s the main, interesting, aspect of the deck:
>> All Creatures & Spells Boost/Trigger/Etc. other Spirits or Arcane Spells.
This is what this deck is all about. That and pretty foil Kamigawa insane art! Every card in the deck contributes to the Synergy; even the low cost Arcane Spells can trigger abilities and be helpful.
>> Spirits and Arcanes have a strong “Enchantment Hate” subtheme.
You will be the Prime Enchantment Master. You decide which Enchantment is “okay” and which should die.
>> Karador, Ghost Chieftain works really well with the other Spirits and Soulshifts.
This has already been said, but yes, Spirits don’t die easily, or rather, stay dead.
Card Options
What could be added/tested:
- Hideous Laughter : Will be included in the testing, not sure what will be replaced, probably a spirit.
- More to come (and feel free to suggest!)
I want to make an Horror EDH so badly but... ouch.
Most of them are either vanilla or have more drawbacks than interesting abilities. I thought about a 5 Color deck since at least I could use the Liege and the non-black horror from Torment and such but still... It would need some massive tweaking and more love from future sets.
So I'm wondering if this card is seeing any play in modern.
I like it even if it can be tricky at times. I liek how I can use discard spells during my turn or be ready with Counterspells/Draw/etc. during the opponent turn.
I focused a little on Modern: Got a playset of each Scars lands.
Now I'm getting fetches (taking somewhat my time on ebay)
Also, do you think the Filter Lands are worth getting?
I was thinking of maybe a set of GW and WB for a deck but since they ain't too costy, do you think it's worth getting a playset of each ones?
For the manabase concern I'll put ~3 more fetches. A new list will be posted soon. Meanwhile, do you have any more advice for the Sideboard? Multicolor hate vs specific stuff?
Hello all. This deck aims to use creatures with infect that are difficult to block along with proliferate effects to kil lthe opponent quickly. Any suggestions?
- Phyrexian Crusader seems like a good choice for that deck. It wont get pathed/burn and can be unblockable for some creature. Also, first strike on an infect dude is a winner. I think he would be better and faster than the Viral Drake.
- Ichorclaw Myr is also an ok beater. Very hard to block.
- Corpse Cur could be an ok sideboard option. (a little expensive at 4 mana)
-Inkmoth Nexus is also a card you want It's cheap now that it was reprinted in an event deck :D. I would but 4x, no less.
-I'm not really sold on Virulent Wound and Grim Affliction. I would probably add some Discard to help disrupt the other player since your deck is not a super-fast Infect one. (Inquisition of Kozilek, Duress, etc.)
You could aslo add some nice removal/bounce to help.
I like how various package can be arranged when using Gifts Ungiven and also how my sideboard can be used by Glittering Wish (it's also a nice 4th card in a Gifts package :D.
Bramblecrush while it requires 2x:symg: is an all star SB card. I run 2 out of the board, usually going -1 Shaman and -1 Removal of choice, depending on the opponent's deck.
As for Vraska, at her worst, she rips a removal card from opponents hand, thus saving a creature. Her abilities are excellent, and if she sticks it's usually GG. I only have issues with Tamiyo. The card is murder against any deck that goes against it. It needs to be dealt with almost immediately.
How about Pithing needle vs those pesky walkers?
I put 4 in my SB just for that. Maybe I should put Bramblecrush also... mmm

This looks actually fun to play when you have creatures with damage effects.

1 Eternal Witness
2 Tombstalker
Other Spells:
3 Liliana of the Veil
2 Inquisition of Kozilek
2 Raven's Crime
4 Smallpox

thanks
edit: gonna edit the name for now since I want some discussion before thinking about the Primer.
Karador, Ghost Chieftain is a very good BGW commander, this is no Secret.

I'll squeeze in wurmcoil engine + academy ruins, looks pretty neat!
Same for Gaddock Teeg and wheel of sun and moon in the Sideboard. I guess I could also put some charms there also (Golgari/Bant maybe).
Eternal Witness looks nice but I'm unsure what should be cut for it. Maybe just replace Noxious revival with it?
For the manabase concern I'll put ~3 more fetches. A new list will be posted soon. Meanwhile, do you have any more advice for the Sideboard? Multicolor hate vs specific stuff?
Hi there!
Creatures:
- Phyrexian Crusader seems like a good choice for that deck. It wont get pathed/burn and can be unblockable for some creature. Also, first strike on an infect dude is a winner. I think he would be better and faster than the Viral Drake.
- Ichorclaw Myr is also an ok beater. Very hard to block.
- Corpse Cur could be an ok sideboard option. (a little expensive at 4 mana)
I would cut the Fume Spitter and Viral Drake for some of those.
Non-creatures:
-Inkmoth Nexus is also a card you want It's cheap now that it was reprinted in an event deck :D. I would but 4x, no less.
-I'm not really sold on Virulent Wound and Grim Affliction. I would probably add some Discard to help disrupt the other player since your deck is not a super-fast Infect one. (Inquisition of Kozilek, Duress, etc.)

I like the Toolbox approach a lot.

I also thought about Timely Reinforcements, Tidehollow Sculler & kitchen finks maindeck.
So what do you guys think?
Do you have some ideas on how it can be made stronger?
Thanks for you time

Edit: Sorry for those who viewed the thread before I edited. I reworked the list a little.
How about Pithing needle vs those pesky walkers?
I put 4 in my SB just for that. Maybe I should put Bramblecrush also... mmm
