Congrats on the wins with an interesting list! I saw a list got top 16 and was like old Ponza without BBE which I think is hilarious.

i honestly didn't even know there was another list in the top 16 until i got home. i saw he was going for ramp/monsters than bbe, which i can understand. i wish i got to meet him to see what his game played like but after looking at the list, i'm glad i didn't lol too much LD for me!

and thanks. i like the white splash. the ponza facebook page has been doing some spicy brews as of late and i think nahiri is really good right now in it. someone was even thinking assemble the legion against control, which seems pretty good if you can get it down.

@beddatarmo i just recently got goyfs so that's why i ran it. otherwise a buddy was gonna let me borrow his. i think you could put in another 2-mana threat that would work the board. i feel like having more threats that bbe can go into is very important. sprawl was not where this deck wanted to be.

as for scavenger, i liked the instant ability when it ETB. i was always noticing i was very short on mana when i played him or wanted to do 2 things that turn. an ooze would never get me value that way. being able to gain 2 life instantly is fantastic. he actually helped me a few times in burn.

i'm not sure about SS. there never was a time that i really wanted it. maybe against the eldrazi deck but that was a super fringe deck. i never saw anything like it. i mean, it might be good but we already have a good time against tron and affinity (at least i think we do).

I just got home from doing the Modern Classic at SCG Worcester. Ran ponza to a 18th place finish (7-2). I lost my win-and-in for top 8 but I'm okay with my placement. First ever huge event that I have ever did. Here's my list that a buddy of mine came up with and I ran with:

    And here are my matchups:

    R1: Ponza (2-0)
    R2: Ponza (2-1)
    R3: Green Tron (2-1)
    R4: Jund (2-0) - he missed his 2nd land game 2
    R5: Burn (2-1)
    R6: Colorless Eldrazi (1-2)
    R7: Boggles (2-1)
    R8: Madcap Ponza (2-1)
    R9: Storm (0-2)

I'd love to talk more about anything so if you got questions, feel free to ask me.

    Hi all,

My name is Eliott and I finished at 11th place (13-2) at Grand Prix Lyon this past weekend with Mono Green Tron.

This was my first Day 2 and I'm extremely happy with the result, as I'm playing Tron since the begginings of Modern !

If it's okay to post a link here, I'll post an MTGGoldfish or MTGTop8 link with my deck list.
Otherwise I'll update my post with the list when I have time.

My matchups were the following :

Round 1 : Really cool Temur Warriors deck (2-1)
    Round 2 : Burn (2-1)
Round 3 : UR Through the Breach (2-1)
    Round 4 : Nahiri Control (2-1)
Round 5 : Creatures Combo with Vizier and Devoted Druid (1-2)
    Round 6 : Lantern Control (2-0)
Round 7 : Jeskai Through the Breach (2-1)
    Round 8 : Affinity (2-1)
    Round 9 : Jund (2-1)
    Round 10 : Burn (0-2)
    Round 11 : Thopter Foundry Combo (2-0)
    Round 12 : Lantern Control (2-0)
    Round 13 : BG Tron (2-0)
    Round 14 : Mardu Pyromancer (2-1)
    Round 15 : UW Control (2-0)

Here's your list from WOTC's page

I would really love to know what your sb plans were for all of this. Would you run this list at your next GP? I've been wanting to switch over to mono-green and plan on testing this out on Friday next week.

So I just sent my list through a competitive league and went 4-1.

So here how my matches went. I won't go into a lot of detail cause I was playing with a friend watching me on skype so we were going through the plays together.

    R1: UW Control (2-1)
These were 3 really close games. Game 1 had Elspeth and I had no way out. Game 2 I got there with land destruction and hasty dudes. He couldn't really get there. Thrun got in and that helped a lot. Game 3 he was stuck on like 3 lands and a blood moon sealed him out. I love blood moon.

    R2: UW Control (2-1)
Swear it was not the same guy. Very similar set ups but this guy had a Jace-centric deck than the previous one. I really didn't see that much but I was able to jam spells and get him to waste his counters. Best part was game 2 where he only had 1 Island. I jammed Spyglass out and he countered it. I had enough mana to send out a blood moon. Did I tell you that I really love blood moon?

    R3: Storm (0-2)
This was no where near me winning. I think if I'm going to a big event and thinking storm might be there, I'll invest in some trinispheres. But I just felt like my sb hit most of what i cared about and if storm is my one loss, that's fine. Plus, I'm using a rental service for the deck so I don't think I could get spheres. But that would probably be my one change.

    R4: Scapeshift? (2-0)
I honestly don't know what this guy was doing. Game 1, he discarded all his scapeshifts. I didn't see anything and I blood moon'd him in case valakut was there. Game 2, he scapeshifted for islands and was dead on board next turn since i had a dragon in hand. I honestly don't know what the deck was. I saw a jace in one of those matchups but it didn't matter.

    R5: RG Eldrazi (2-0)
I was able to get there in these too. I got some LD in game 1 and stuck a moon game 2 when he was tapped. He couldn't cast anything other than the TKS he played earlier in game 2. Titan held him off until I was able to just swoop in for the win.

Won 180 play points, 8 treasaure chests and a qualifier point.

I love this deck. I feel I got some good practice for FNM tomorrow. My shop is having a huge super fnm for a playset of chandra's. Plus it being the first friday of the new modern, i feel there will be a lot of people there. maybe not since there are a few other stores in the area. i'm gonna jam blood moons, molten rains and stone rains all day. hopefully on turn 2. and hopefully when the blue player is tapped out.

Good luck to everyone playing tomorrow.

torpor orb is a good one. granted, it stops TKS but that's it. all of our other creatures are cast triggers.

Congrats on the finish! Still a great accomplishment! My goal is still to atleast Day 2 a GP, lol.

I am playing Mono G Tron since a few weeks and i have to say i do not miss the removal at all. Instead of Pyroclasms etc. i play 4 Walking Ballistas and i am very content with it.

Also SB Thought-Knots are pretty good at blocking stuff, even if you do not make it to Tron on turn 3.

My list currently looks like this:

your list is short 4 cards main. just a heads up.

    In mono G tron :
    why people play 3 Thought-Knot Seer ?
    Only against burn?

I'm going to run for this list https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/894993#paper for the moment, i think change side to :
    2 Thragtusk
    2 Nature's Claim
    1 Pithing Needle
    2 Relic of Progenitus
    2 Spatial Contortion
    2 Warping Wail
    1 Seal of Primordium
    1 Grafdigger's Cage
    1 Trinisphere
    1 Crucible of Worlds

any idea against surgical tron piece or crumble to dust?
    tks?
    Silent gravestone? seems pretty bad

also change canopy to cavern main deck.

I run 3 relic of progenitus and it does a great job of stopping surgical. Just leave it up or leave up mana and surgical does nothing. As a bonus, the card is also great against storm, dredge, reanimator etc.

Against crumble; I haven't seen that card in a long time but warping Wail is decent. Essentially I stopped caring about crumble a long time ago and started running it myself haha. I think only ponza and valakut run the card, so I just dropped it. Right or wrong, it just seemed like the thing to do

i have been seeing it a lot more on mtgo. ran against a jeskai control deck that had it. got hit with it 2 turns in a row.

You'll be interested to hear I went undefeated against these decks today playing RG tron...
    In order:
    Jund Moon
    Burn
    Burn
    Burn
    8-whack
    Burn

Dropped only 1 game the whole time.

Turns out burn isn't such a bad matchup. Correct mulligans here played a huge part.

For my trouble I got a revised Tundra NM condish, which I feel is a pretty stonking prize.

    whats your list?

    Of course.
When you're looking through, note that I've dropped the 4th card from a few playsets and stuck in a very similar or equivalent card with a slightly different bonus against certain matchups. This 3:1 split is to improve general matchups across the metagame. I'll explain some of them below.

Things I've been very happy with:
    - Swapping the 4th stone for an all is dust. This was twofold. Firstly to enable more turn three 'big' sweepers (which it did and won me a match yesterday for this exact reason) and to reduce the impact of stony silence from an opponent's sideboard. Again, it's done this and won me games against an opponent rocking stony.
    - 4th clasm becoming koz's return. This is less clear-cut but I wanted a definite tool against affinity and for giving me more options to 2+-for-1 an aggro opponent. When casting removal you want to be voiding as many cards from your opponent's hand as you can. So far it's been working. Pyroclasm *is* a whole turn faster though so I went with 3 of those rather than splitting it the other way round or 2:2.
    - Cavern of souls/Sundering titan. This is actually some old tech from competitive lists more than a year ago. I brought it back because I have seen a stratifying of modern where burn/aggro decks are setting the pace and the remaining big players are blue decks like jeskai and grixis. Ceremonious rejection is a popular card, so a tutorable cavern (when it's necessary) and titan to wreck all the three colour fetch-heavy lists has been absolutely amazing.
    - titan & dust both trigger sanctum allowing for more consistent fetching up of wurmcoil (very handy).

My games against burn started with me mulliganing away anything slower than a turn 3 bomb or turn 2 sweeper.
    I boarded like this:
    -2 Ulamog
    -2 ugin
    -1 Karn
    -2 Oblivion Stone
    -1 sundertitan
-1 something (sometimes Karn number two, sometimes the other stone, depends on the list)

    +3 nature's claim
    +3 thought-knot seer
    +1 orbs of warding
    +2 thragtusk

I aimed to lower my curve also also reduce my reliance on artifact removal (I have historically found o-stone to be a liability against burn if you drop it on turn three, it often gets hit with destructive revelry often a 4x in their sideboard). I keep in some number of Karn because it's important to be able to keep them off lands if they stumble.

Thought-knot seers and nature's claims are amazing against burn. Mulligan aggressively for seer and pyroclasm type effects.

Fun fact, it's almost.... Aaaaaalmost better to be on the draw against burn (if they have a creature-y draw) because then your turn 2 clasm can be a 2 or 3-for-1 and there's basically no way for them to come back with one or something card in hand and you next turn slamming a seer or thragtusk. I wouldn't advise it; always go on the play. But having been on the draw a lot (winning!) it worked out fine for me.

do you feel the 1 basic land is okay? i've been playing GB and can't really decide on the amount of basics i need. how come no world breakers? i've also been thinking of cavern and all is dust as well. i really like your list and think i could adopt it to gb, especially with TKS. i think that's a better thing with cavern then using thoughtseize.

thank you so much for sharing your list Grin

i'm still brewing with my list but does anyone have a good start for a sideboard for a completely unknown meta? i was told there would be jeskai, GDS, affinity, burn, some brews. just a starting point, really, is what i'm looking for. any "this card def" kind of thing.

i was thinking of adding 2 aethersphere harvesters main instead of ripjaw raptor. i agree that i really don't think it adds to any sort of gameplan. i also thought about liliana, death's majesty to help out as well.

i think aethersphere would be better. i was needing life gain a lot last night and i feel it'd be a good one.

i didn't look at any mtgo lists. i don't even know where to look for that. i had a different list and my friend suggested some other cards. maybe he did but i'm not sure.
I wouldn't judge anyone for getting ideas anywhere.

Wizards posts them somewhere, but if you are interested you can go to mtggoldfish.com->decks->metagame and a sampling of 5 mtgo competitive 5-0 lists per day is on the right. Yesterday's includes this sneky goodness.

wow that list is similar to mine. i wonder if that's where my friend took his ideas. thanks, hoser2!

i went 1-2 yesterday at FNM. I think i could have gone 2-1 but missed a trigger cause i didn't understand how jadelight ranger worked. our place is super chill and my buddy tried helping out but my opponent was being a huge rules lawyer douche. it tilted me a little (nothing that i really got upset about).

anyway, i beat RB pirates in round 1. round 2 was path to mettle. that deck is real and really hard to beat, especially with a lot of x/1s in our list. round 3 was the mirror and it was super close until that misplay i did.

i really like the deck. i felt like i needed green mana more but i also felt flooded (i guess that's what happens with no attune!). i'm gonna keep working on it but it's a lot of fun.
