No problem. I had some people ask me to write one so i decided if i was going to do it I was going to do it right.
I figured that not enough people from my meta would be reading this so i decided to go a little more in depth to give you guys exactly how i felt about specific decks and how to make them better, which is how a lot of writers DONT do it. Normally they explain the list and end it at that. I wanted to give you guys my opinion to make them better. You decide if its right or wrong.
thanks for commenting/reading and hope to see more in the future

If we had breeding pool completely different story. I would NOT be advocating GW midrange at all. it would be Bant. But unreliability to cast it is hard.
I can see using Farseek over Arbor elf but then your losing turn 2 geist, and imo the best Farseek deck is Jund (for aggressive ish decks) so your just behind... -
Oct 4, 2012DXI-Edge posted a message on RTR Brewing Part 2!I actually changed the Junk list to GW, as I was noticing some patterns in the Junk list:Posted in: DXI-Edge Blog
1) double white was hard.
2) single black was even harder
3) having both, while it did happen, didn't happen often.
The list relied a lot on going Overgrown tomb into Pilgrim, turn 2 Chapel/Sunpetal.
So I cut out the black, switched Decay to Charm and streamlined the deck and its much more consistent while still having removal. The lack of Sever sucks, but having 3 Charms for trample over lingering souls tokens helps.
I tried Vault over Gavony, but the deck's dorks did literally nothing late game. The deck liked having a mana sink that made your guys bigger, and 90% of the time the list out raves other decks anyway
Duress I'm not sure about
As for a list, GW midrange is powerful, UW Humans is good. Either I would be fine with. I'm working on. 3rd Rampy list right now but that won't be revealed till after provincials
Good luck! -
Sep 25, 2012DXI-Edge posted a message on RTR Brewing Part 2!I haven't found a good Jund Midrange deck to test against yet. I know there is one and i know its good but what it is i dont know yet, so thats why i didnt talk about it much.Posted in: DXI-Edge Blog
However, thank you and i do agree that it is, until breeding pool comes out in which case turn 2 geist could be a thing -
Sep 23, 2012DXI-Edge posted a message on RTR Brewing Part 2!Bonfire is gonna decrease in Popularity due to not being insane vs. Zombies. Its still good, and will see play, but not as much as it does nowPosted in: DXI-Edge Blog
Thragtusk is an important card yes i will admit that
Lingering Souls will also be good but if it gets too good Sever, Detention Sphere will run around the format.
For the entrance to the metagame, my 3 cards WILL be the format. As the metagame evolves, Lingering Souls and Thragtusk will become 2 more pillars -

Please go back up to 22 lands. Im gonna say go up to 23, but with Sign in Blood you MAY be able to afford 22, but 23 is optimal. 20 is WAY too few for a 3 colour deck, and you want 4 on turn 4 for Aristocrat anyway, so please go up to 23.
4 of Rancor, and so many red spells is asking for disaster, You need to slim down on the non-black spells, or move to a more midrange style.
PLAY DREG MANGLER! its insane and is an auto- 4 of in ALL zombie decks from here on out. I'm even playing it in Junk (see next blog post)

Second, not OVERLY. I think Junk midrange will actually be better due to having Green turn 1 more often while having other colours too (Temple Garden, Overgrown Tomb) Most of the good midrange decks I've played play Turn 1 dork to accelerate into the mid game bomb creatures.
The Junk deck I'm trying to build but there are so many variables for it its tough at the moment. however that is where i will be headed next.
Also, if more Rakdos cards are spoiled that are awesome, I'm probably also brewing Grixis Control. i edited that into the Blog.

May 13, 2012DXI-Edge posted a message on AVR First ImpressionsThanks, Lavamancer is actually not better than Vexing Devil. Trust me we've tried. The deck is all about speed and the fact that Vexing Devil can help you to deal 9 damage in a turn is hugePosted in: DXI-Edge Blog

5 damage was great, but I felt like I flooded on Burn and fell behind. Maybe its better than Atog, not sure. But gonna try this out and see how it goes (Please feel free to help me out)
Disciple of the Vault broke the mirror. In half. I didnt realise the card says when "AN" artifact, not when an artifact you control, dies. So ya. Card was nuts and I 2-0'd my 2 matches vs Affinity easily.
I also lost to burn for the first time in a very long time 1-2, but I could have played much better. I was trying a couple different things and it didnt work, I know now. It happens.
I also beat Junk on the back of Disciples saccing to get around Lingering Souls, and Etched Champion being Etched Champion. But after I showed him how to properly board I won 2 games of 10 post board, but the only time he did win was turn 2 Stony Silence. So that wasnt too good, but at the same time Stony Silence just isnt played very much. Regardless, made some tweaks.
As such, this is what I'm trying the next few days:
4 Ornithopter
4 Vault Skirge
4 Signal Pest
4 Disciple of the Vault
4 Arcbound Ravager
2 Hangarback Walker
2 Atog
2 Etched Champion
4 Mox Opal
4 Galvanic Blast
4 Springleaf Drum
4 Cranial Plating
1 Sulfurous Springs
1 Mountain
1 Inkmoth Nexus
4 Glimmervoid
4 Inkmoth Nexus
4 Darksteel Citadel
1 Relic of Progenitus
2 Thoughtseize
1 Wear // Tear
2 Ancient Grudge
2 Spellskite
1 Torpor Orb
2 Whipflare
1 Blood Moon
1 Dismember
2 Etched Champion
Need to work on the sideboard a lot, but I think the main board is at the point where if the deck doesnt perform, I'm just going to perfect/tune my stock list, as I dont think Days Undoing is gaining percentage vs Jund and Grixis Control (which is already a favorable matchup) to lose a lot of points vs the mirror and burn.
My concern is does it make you lose percentage against decks like Burn, Scapeshift, the mirror, infect and Tron? If so, I dont think its worth it...main board. If its honestly good vs Midrange decks, I could see it boarded.
However, I want to potentially try this:
4 Ornithopter
1 Hangarback Walker
3 Disciple of the Vault
4 Signal Pest
4 Vault Skirge
4 Arcbound Ravager
3 Etched Champion
4 Mox Opal
1 Welding Jar
2 Chromatic Star
2 Springleaf Drum
4 Cranial Plating
4 Galvanic Blast
2 Shrapnel Blast
4 Darksteel Citadel
4 Glimmervoid
2 Inkmoth Nexus
1 Mountain
1 Sulfurous Springs
1 Grafdigger's Cage
1 Relic of Progenitus
1 Illness in the Ranks
2 Thoughtseize
3 Ancient Grudge
2 Spellskite
2 Whipflare
1 Blood Moon
1 Dismember
1 Etched Champion
What the hell is your list?
Would it kill you to look back at the thread? I posted this 18 days ago. We discussed it
So your running 18 land, 3 Springleaf and 4 Mox instead of 17 land, 4 Springleaf and 4 Mox? I'm not sure if I like that but it is worth testing.
What are your lands? 4 Glimmer, 4 Inkmoth, 4 Blinkmoth, 4 Darksteel 2 basics?
One thing I want to say is this: This list has been putting up a lot of results this week. The first 3-1 I kinda dismissed, but its been 3-1ìng and 4-0ing all week, and its worth testing.
Here is the list:
4 Arcbound Ravager
4 Etched Champion
2 Memnite
4 Ornithopter
4 Signal Pest
1 Spellskite
1 Steel Overseer
4 Vault Skirge
3 Galvanic Blast
4 Cranial Plating
4 Mox Opal
4 Springleaf Drum
1 Welding Jar
3 Ensoul Artifact
4 Blinkmoth Nexus
4 Glimmervoid
4 Inkmoth Nexus
1 Island
1 Spellskite
4 Ancient Grudge
1 Choke
1 Duress
1 Grafdigger's Cage
3 Thoughtseize
1 Torpor Orb
1 Wear // Tear
Do not cut a mana source. 16 lands, 4 Mox 4 Springleaf Drum is the minimum if your gonna be playing 3 drops.
After testing some more, Hangarback Walker is too slow for the main, and with Grixis Control on the rise 4 Galvanic Blast isnt that good. I'm going to try 1 Thoughtcast instead of 1 of the Galvanic Blasts and see if that helps, but I was also (ironically after calling out Frank Karsten lol) having Mana issues for the first time.
I am going to be trying Day's Undoing vs Grixis more, and I'm going to be testing a lot of tweaks to find what feels optimal.
Trust me when I say I take Frank Karsten's opinion to heart. However innovation and progress does not happen when you look to others consistently. The key is to also make some decisions for yourself.
For example, Frank swears by 17 lands. How many lands do you run? I run 16, because I have made that decision for myself as 17 has been too many too often.
As for his argument for Dismember, you can find that here:
I understand this argument, but I feel it is flawed. And its the argument I have argued against already, so I'm not going to again. And this was also his decision a month ago. It may change.
Has anyone tested more cards from Origins?
Dispatch is greater in every way. The examples above reinforce that point.
If we dont have metalcraft, casting a Dismember isnt going to catch us back up. We are in serious trouble.
Dispatch is also better vs Grixis Control, as the 4 life is surprisingly relevant vs their clocks.
The difference between Dismembering an Exarch before the Twin and after the twin is miniscule, and typically if they untap with 5 mana and an Exarch, they have Dispel. Casting it early is not a downside.
On top of that, 4 life is important in a lot of matchups.
I would rather just use Dispatch and have it gone.
