Bravo for this. As some note below, it's not the perfect article - but it starts the conversation, and that's the important thing.
For those who don't know the full story on who Jeremy Hambly is and what he did, this article captures it all.
In the end, this isn't about politics, thought policing or anything like that - it's about having the right to not get trolled out of our own hobbies. No-one deserves that. Not Christine, not anyone on here. And if we start a conversation to make sure no-one gets trolled right off MTGSally, good.

Dec 8, 2014CadaverousBl00m posted a message on The 2014 Optimal Multiplayer Cube - GreenPosted in: CadaverousBl00m BlogQuote from Blueduck »Treefolk is interesting. Have you mentioned that in years past? I know I would find it interesting if the final 2014 optimal cube used different archetypes from years past. Let's get some variety!
Wow, that was quick... I went to lunch, came back, and you'd replied!
I don't think I've mentioned Treefolk as a possible archetype in years past, but it's definitely been floating around in my head as possible. I run a mono-green Treefolk deck with half of these cards in free-for-all Multiplayer, and it's been quite successful. Coupled with the fact that Wickerbough Elder and Lignify have stuck in my cube and aren't moving...
And yeah, I'll switch up the archetypes this year... variety is the spice of life! I was going to make the green one Treefolk anyway, just to see how it drafted for everyone (and hoping that it doesn't end up like Merfolk... which basically consists of a bunch of first-picks and a bunch of last-picks, so no-one ever ends up holding the full tribe).
EDIT: Oh, and I should add... Lignify even has its own enter-the-battlefield catchphrase in my playgroup: "Watch out for that... treeeeeeeee!" -
May 12, 2014CadaverousBl00m posted a message on The 2013 Optimal Multiplayer Cube - WhiteI almost threw a white tokens archetype in this year, TBH! I think you could probably make a very good archetype as it is, but it would probably be multicolour (either GW with Trostani, Parallel Lives, Doubling Season etc. or BW with Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, Lingering Souls etc).Posted in: CadaverousBl00m Blog
I reckon white Soldiers is probably a card or two off being a very good archetype as it is - Darien, King of Kjeldor, Knight-Captain of Eos, Mobilization, Martial Coup, just about any Elspeth...
Can't say I've put a figure on the minimum number of turns per reset before a game is declared "not fun anymore", but my gut feel is that it's probably about 9-10 turns. That's long enough for someone who's had an imperfect draw or a disrupted setup to a) at least feel like they've got something decent going, or b) blow it all up with the reset they have.
Most of the resets in my own cube are quite conditional, too. Wrath of God is pretty much the only straight "blow it all up right now" reset I have. Disk takes a turn, Austere Command chops and changes what it resets, most of the red ones (like Blasphemous Act and Chain Reaction) won't necessarily get everything... Between limiting those you have, and making sure they're not all silver bullets, you should have a pretty decent balance of things (and it places greater draft value upon the really good ones - *** is a high pick in my cube, and rightfully so). -

The best thing I've found to do with the new sets? I usually want playsets of about nine or ten commons and uncommons from a set - just enough to justify splashing for a full common/uncommon playset (which can usually be had inside the US for under $30). I love buying one of these, and then letting my friends pick over the leftovers. We even split an M12 playset between four people recently and drafted it. -

@Zelderex: Yeah, I'm waiting to see if it stays banned in Modern, really. That is one Banned List in flux right now, apparently in the interests of knocking out Turn 1-3 kills. Not sure Valakut does that without Scapeshift. I wouldn't be horribly surprised to see them eventually ban Scapeshift and unban Valakut. Not sure that would make for a Modern-competitive deck, though.
@MrZeyeti: Agreed, Sorin's certainly not a house. I kind of expect him to end up price-wise about where Chandra Nalaar is now. He's now had his reprint (making him more available), and he's not seeing tournament play... eventually we have to reach saturation point, like we did with Chandra. At $5-6 a copy, I'm not interested in getting a Sorin or two to throw in a deck, but at $2-3, I probably am! - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
Exsanguinate. End of thread.
If you're running Ashling the Pilgrim, you probably want to have a go at her combo with Scythe of the Wretched.
Dragon Roost is also a very good card in situations like this, especially late-game with a pile of mana and a Gauntlet of Might or two on the board.
Seriously, you've got infinite mana here - you need X spells to finish people. Infinite Capsize is just going to get you kicked in the crotch.
I would be investing in Rolling Thunder / Fanning the Flames to finish with burn. Alternately (or even together with the burn), Genesis Wave for anything 10+ in a deck like this is usually GG.
Finally, if you're playing Immaculate Magistrate, you want Joraga Warcaller in here (and maybe Triskelion, too, for an alt-win).
For reference (and for the laughter of others not on the WotC forums), the following is my current incarnation of this deck. It has run the Intruder Alarm combo in the past, but I only had a singleton copy, and I was splashing blue for that alone.
Yes, it's 100 cards. No, it's not Highlander. Shut up.
This deck pulled off a huge Genesis Wave and simultaneously scalped the last three players FTW on Friday night.
4x Priest of Titania (best multiplayer elf)
4x Wirewood Channeler (not far behind, manafixes for our splashes)
4x Elvish Harbinger (manafixes for our splashes, tutors for half the deck)
4x Lys Alana Huntmaster (elf generation)
4x Jagged-Scar Archers (flying defense, beatstick)
2x Essence Warden (life, too good to leave out)
1x Wellwisher (life, too good to leave out)
2x Elvish Lyrist (enchantment removal)
2x Viridian Shaman (artifact removal)
1x Ezuri, Renegade Leader (finisher, in here as Overrun on an Elf body, and potential protection)
2x Imperious Perfect (lord, token generation)
1x Heedless One (finisher)
4x Immaculate Magistrate (finisher)
1x Triskelion (decent by itself, finisher next to the Magistrate)
2x Joraga Warcaller (lord that goes bananas next to a Magistrate)
4x Thousand-Year Elixir (insane next to the elves, generates crazy mana with Priests/Channelers)
2x Rings of Brighthearth (great with Magistrate, Wellwisher, Ezuri and so on)
2x Ashnod's Altar (lethal mana generation with the tokens)
4x Elvish Promenade (elf generation extraordinaire)
2x Reclaim (a little recursion)
2x Sylvan Scrying (manafixer, Cradle-fetcher)
4x Genesis Wave (accelerator par excellence)
1x Abundance (card selection, really good with Momentous Fall)
1x Constant Mists (fog that is too good to leave out)
4x Rolling Thunder (finisher)
2x Roar of the Crowd (surprise finisher)
1x Recurring Nightmare (swaps my tokens for the bomb Elf you just killed)
1x Vampiric Tutor (tutor)
1x Diabolic Intent (tutor)
19x Forest
4x Mountain
2x Swamp
2x Terramorphic Expanse (manafixing)
1x Evolving Wilds (ditto)
2x Gruul Turf (have been in here forever, and are pretty good, so they stay in)
1x Gaea's Cradle (derp)
In that case, flog the dead horse - go to town!
Not sure how I'm going to maintain them between two forums, though.
Glorious combo, otherwise. Soul's Fire plays really nicely here, too.
Yeah, we do play that on occasion also - depends on what mood we're in. Thankfully, given we're all old hands, we play annoying cards like *** and fully expect them to be played back at us, too (i.e. yes, *** is annoying - prepare to be annoyed by it if you're planning to annoy others with it too)!
You'll probably remember my Red Zone deck off the WotC Forums, Krich... you could certainly push the deck in that direction if you chose. 12-Post, Mana Flares and all the XR spells a man can handle FTW.
I've been trying to get Molten Psyche to work in this archetype, but I'm not quite there yet. Definitely needs Great Furnaces to even have a chance of triggering in a deck like this (given it packs a lot of hot, red things, and not so many artifacts).
Definitely also multiples of Propaganda. Tradewind Rider is also a good option.
Most of us have been playing for a long time, and have a good Legacy cardbase. So there are a lot of power plays, a lot of combos and a lot of good finishers in our metagame.
We haven't banned anything, but there is a standing rule that if you completely pwn the table with an annoying deck, it gets put away for the night. If it does it routinely, it's probably a good idea to take it apart for the sake of fun (this has happened to Stasis decks, a particularly annoying Lodestone Golem / Sculpting Steel deck and a few others - the Turn 3 Biorhythm deck favoured by one of our guys is on the hitlist ATM)!
But that said, it's a fantastic metagame we have. We probably only have a couple of complete and utter Spikes going out and buying the money cards (I'm yet to see CawBlade in my playgroup, but I've seen some Scapeshift builds using Avenger of Zendikar and Ob Nixilis, the Fallen). The rest of us are Johnnies or Vorthoses, all building glorious synergistic and innovative decks on a budget. If someone brings a new deck and it performs admirably, there is a fair amount of appreciation from the rest of the group (and usually a copy or two).
Maybe, just maybe... Inexorable Tide.
Works well with Sphinx of Magosi, Djinn of Wishes, Karn Liberated and Coalition Relic (should you choose to use it). Also really good with Echo Mage, Lighthouse Chronologist, Saprazzan Skerry (which is admittedly useless otherwise)...
I'd have thought that would be the way to go here.
