What about Ponder, Preordain, Squadron Hawk and basically everything that went into CawBlade during its standard reign? Seriously, that deck alone had at least 5 cards that were more commonly played than Lingering Souls. I'm not even getting started on eternal format staples like Bob, Goyf, Snapcaster, Sensei's Divining Top, Sword of X and Y cycle, Arcbound Ravager, Skullclamp, Life from the Loam, Counterbalance and many more (ok, I did get started on them, I admit).
And some of you think, Lingering Souls is even remotely in the same league as the cards mentioned above? That's just ridiculous.
Those cards weren't as oppressive on their block formats as lingering souls was on this block format. No reasonable person would ever try and say that Lingering Souls is a better card than Bob, but in terms of how good it is in block, Lingering Souls is stronger.
Actually, they were talking about why Rise of the Eldrazi ended up flopping and that's because of the extreme disconnect in mechanics between the rest of the block.
They ARE getting rid of Flashback and DFC's, but nothing was said about Fateful Hour, Morbid, or Undying.
Having said that, I'd expect Undying to move into the good forces portion of the mechanics to symbolize the tides have turned. Fateful Hour is sort of unlikely to come back, I see it as being too dependent on events, but I could be wrong. Morbid seems like it could return fine.
Ahh, that sounds more like it. I knew they were getting rid of DFC's, and I remembered hearing about them getting rid of some other mechanics, so my scumbag brain just assumed it was all of them.
Another idea I had was that Avacyn could have a mechanic like suspend, except we'll call them "arrival" counters, and that you remove one at the beginning of each upkeep and/or whenever a human creature you control dies, then when she enters the battlefield, you destroy all non-white creatures you don't control. Also, it wouldn't be an alternate cost like suspend is, but when you cast her, instead of entering the battlefield she just goes straight to her exile zone.
Avacyn, Archangel 3WWBB
Legendary Creature - Angel
Flying, Deathtouch, Lifelink
Fateful Hour ~
If your life total is at or below 5, prevent all damage that would be dealt to you.
P/T: 7/7
I imagine when the purists of Innistrad need her the most, she appears and protects
them from harm while having a body big enough to dish out some serious hurt.
I imagine if she became Akroma 2.0, that she would have a "If Avacyn would be put
into a graveyard from anywhere, exile it instead" clause to slap Unburial Rites abuse
in the face.
I think they said somewhere that all the mechanics they introduced in the first two sets won't be showing up in Avacyn Restored, so that includes flip cards, undying, fateful hour, and morbid. I don't have a link, but I'm sure it's been said, lol.
5:symw::symb: won't change the fact that unburial rites could easily cast and recast this
and frites will destroy all metagames with 4 of this + 4 of elesh norn
edit: oh and the picture on the card art should be the other avacyn, not this one, this avacyn picture will be use in fatpack not the card art
I couldn't find a different picture
I wasn't thinking about unburial rites when I made it, but I (personally) think it should be stronger than Elesh. Maybe cause that's I'm a Timmy through-and-through, but I just want her to be ridiculous. I would infinitely prefer her to be overpowered than underpowered.
A 13/13 flying trample critter that kills players each time it hits them (and will do so all the time because of trample), doubles its power and proceeds to kill the rest of the EDH party? How powerful can creatures become? Only Emrakul and Marit Lage could rival this thing, last time I checked they're both quite adept at devouring planes. It is also Legendary.
I really want to see whatever it is have some story implications. No plane can ignore something like this unleashed. At least Ludevic's Test Subject is just a huge Kraken that's probably easy to outsmart, but this seems totally different.
I'm betting on the demon Shilgengar.
Well considering this is the blade that sealed away both Avacyn and Griselbrand, I'm guessing it's the latter.
I'm really liking Esper Blade, but I don't know if I would play a control deck in this meta without red for Whipflare. UWR Blade with a black splash might work though.
I was thinking of whip flare, and I feel like a BW tokens deck just wouldn't work without some resistance to that card. Because of this, I was thinking I could run 2-3 Shrine of Loyal Legions in my BW tokens deck. I feel like it would tick up quite quickly and be another threat that they have to deal with. It's resistant to wrath effects and forces them to run artifact hate in post-board games, which is good for you because in the deck I was thinking of Shrine would be their only target.
Helvault seems okay. In limited it doesn't seem quite as good as Predator Flagship, but it's still quite strong. Dodging removal is pretty awesome though, and exiling troublesome creatures that have Undying will probably be quite relevant.
Those cards weren't as oppressive on their block formats as lingering souls was on this block format. No reasonable person would ever try and say that Lingering Souls is a better card than Bob, but in terms of how good it is in block, Lingering Souls is stronger.

Just an idea

Thoughts?
