The majority of the important cards...aside from two cards that make up half of the Splinter Twin combo, Splinter Twin itself and Kiki Jiki. You can ignore that deck at your peril, but I would be very afraid of it and expect to see it at the top tables at any serious Modern event right now. Because of this if I was making a call between the two cards in the current meta I would most definitely bias in favour of Thoughtseize as being able to force the Splinter Twin player to discard the cards you want them to can be very relevant. Sometimes you're just going to want the Pestermite, but if you Inquisition and are looking at a hand with only Kiki Jiki or ST as opposed to Exarch and Pestimite, then you're not going to be happy. Twin players routinely keep hands with only half of the combo and plan to dig for the other half, if you nab that card they were counting on, then you can slow them down a lot.
You can toss Sudden Death in the sideboard if you think that deck's going to be a problem, since you're already in black.
I feel like WOTC made Sorin, as a, we are sorry we banned Bitterblossom, here is somthing we feel is more reasonable for our new modern format.
I don't really think they made him specifically for modern. He's the poster child for the set, which means they're making him for use in the "whateveranyonecouldpossiblyplayhimin" format.
He's also not a replacement for Blossom for a number of reasons, chiefly the 4 CMC pricetag and vulnerability to being attacked.
There's also the Shadowmoor/Morningtide filterlands. Those will run you in the price range somewhere between the M10 checklands and the fetches. Probably around the same as the Scars duals, now.
Oh, also the painlands. They're a poor substitute for shocks (considering there's no basic land type on them), but they work for budget.
I find tribal interactions are at their best when its something proprietary to Magic, instead of just rehashing something from pop culture.
I'd like to see:
-Something in black that isn't a type of undead (including vampires). Demons are cool and all, but aren't really a tribe since they're mostly rares.
-Amphin.
-More viashino.
-Sahuagin (as from D&D).
-More of basically all the new tribes introduced in Lorwyn/Shadowmoor. They weren't very well-known or tired mythological creatures, and they could have a chance to flesh them out pretty well. Selkies, pucas, etc.
-Something new.
On topic, if you get shown information accidentally, it's more than a little difficult to make a decision by "ignoring" that information. I'd say just let him know how you saw his stuff, use the information, and hope it doesn't happen again.
The format would be so heavily dependent on the quality of your opening hand that I would probably lose interest. I don't want the format to be "mulligan until you don't lose" like Vintage tends to play out.
Why doesn't Maro just buy a private island and host a tournament on there? He could use holo projectors and force people to camp out in the wilderness on the island.
The winner gets to face him and win millions of dollars if they defeat him. He gets to use cards that nobody else knows about.
Oh good God, this needs to happen. I need to play out so many fantasies.
My intuition tells me that in the end, modern will be a good format worth playing. They probably will start to unban cards after they see some real info and player feedback from the PTQ's.
Judging by the way they haven't even mentioned unbannings in any serious sense, and that cards that literally will have no impact if unbanned are still on it (Grave-Troll, much?), I doubt that's going to happen any time soon.
Really, just the fact that Grave-Troll is still on there seals the deal that we're not getting unbannings anytime soon.

Not having Bitterblossom is kind of an issue.

As are hair gel and duelist motorcycles.

It's possible if they print cards like in the Commander sets that are Modern-legal as well as Eternal-legal.
You can still totally do that with Thoughtseize. That's not a legitimate reason to stop Therapy from being reprinted.
Uhwhat? What made this get a spot on that list?
I don't think Sage Owl was ever broken either. There's even a mostly-better card in Sage of Epityr.
In response to OP, basically any of the "free" spells (untap X lands when you cast it/comes into play) should be on the list.

Two words for this happening:
C-c-c-combo maker.
