Protect Uril, throw out other big untouchable creatures, take advantage of the enchantress benefits from playing enchantments. I know I have too many enchantments/auras, just having trouble deciding what to cut.
I'm thinking I don't need as much card draw as I have put in here. I know I need to cut enchantments, but I like having some cheap ones. I also have almost no red cards. It's more of a G/W deck with Uril.
I've heard/read cautions to not designate certain cards as auto-includes, that each deck should be built from the ground up as its own entity. But as I'm getting started and looking at example decks, there are definitely certain cards that make it most of the time. You realize you need a Wrath effect, you're playing certain colors, there are certain cards that work best.
I bought the Heavenly Inferno deck, and I certainly plan on playing it. But I also have a Jor Kadeen deck that could definitely use some cards from it. I'm trying to decide how to keep track of what is in which deck.
Since some of the good cards are expensive, do you have cards that you shift from one deck to another depending on what you're bringing to play a certain night?
Yes I know he's cliche, but I'm new to EDH, I like him, so I'm working on a build for him.
I'm starting by looking at all the other Uril decks I can to see what other people do. Obviously Auras, Big Creatures, Tutors, Recursion and Mana Ramp are very present, so there's a lot of green out there, along with the protection and destruction that white can do. But I don't see a lot of red.
There aren't a lot of good red auras, and I've read that burn isn't very good in EDH, but I'm curious if anyone has weighted red more heavily in a Uril deck.
One card I'm thinking of playing is Urabrask, the Hidden along with the white and green praetors from NPH.
Are there any other red cards that would work well in a Uril deck?
So I've been a MTGO pauper player for awhile, and just got bitten by the EDH bug. It's not just the Commander decks coming out. I opened a Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer in my NPH fat pack, along with a Puresteel Paladin and really wanted to do something with them. Noticed Jor was legendary and a google search later I was hooked on the idea. Then I noticed the Praetors in NPH were all legendary and started wondering about building four mono-colored decks, each featuring a praetor as a general. (I'd skip green because Vorinclex's abilities seem unfun in EDH). So I'm not expecting to instantly build 4 great decks, but I like the idea of an ongoing project. I envision a 4 player game where each person picks their favorite praetor/color. Or it could be random. I'd want to build them to be as balanced as possible... making each one monocolor seems like it would help with that.
Before I start spending time and money, any experienced EDH players think this is a worthwhile venture? Does it seem like it would be fun to play?
I've looked at some of the praetor decks on this forum, but building four to be balanced against each other seems pretty challenging. I'd want to keep a lot of flavor in the decks as well, using as many SOM block cards as I could.
Puresteel Paladin seems like he'd do well in this deck. I'm new to MTG and excited about EDH. Just opened a Jor Kadeen in a booster, so was cool to see this thread. Thanks for the great explanation.
