I think the reanimator mardu deck is by far the sweetest one I have seen. Combines sweet control elements with broken turn 4 win potential. Seems great for the current meta.

Didn't find it funny. Basically anti-jokes. Care level 0/10

I find attacking with 3 creatures to be significantly harder than getting Threshold in Modern (i.e. Legion's Landing is significantly harder to flip than Search for Azcanta). And even if you can get 3 creatures to attack at once through a removal spell (e.g. Zoo), aggro decks often don't want the massive comparative tempo loss Legion's Landing and its silly 1/1 for 1 mana provides.

My first guess for the deck that most wants Legion's Landing is Tokens variants.

I'm testing it in a kuldotha red build. Can get 3 creatures on turn 1 or 2 75% of games and often enough that a bolt won't prevent a flip.

Village bell ringer goes infinite with Twin as well. In fact you could make a pure RW twin deck with restos, kiki, bell ringer, blood moon, etc.

They already have a large bankruptcy loan pretty sure. As noted above they will survive at LEAST through this holiday season. Next year we will see.

You need to understand 2 things.

    1. Wotc has no actual control - they do whatever hasbro tells them. Hasbro says jump, WOTC says how high. Hasbro says reprint rare cards in 10 dollar packs, WOTC says how many sets?
    2. MTG is a business FIRST. Expect this to continue forever because the masters sets have been a HUGE Success from a financial POV. MTG is one of the FEW brands carrying Hasbro. They will continue with everything theyve done lately because its led to more sealed product being sold.

I also like many people here think Search could end up being a modern card. Gotta keep in mind its basically a ramp spell as well for 2 mana. Power level is there

I mean anyone who had canopies before still made out like a bandit. Cards tend to spike pretty fast and fall off relatively slowly. As long as youre willing to sell the day after a spoiler you should be okay. I already have a list of post rotation standard cards and other tier 1-3 staples that im eyeing

The fact that they reprint modern cards actually makes it EASIER to speculate on the modern cards they don't reprint. The prices will rise in the non reprinted cards as they become more of an obstruction to completing the decks.

Just so everyone who reads this thread knows, WOTC is a slave to Hasbro. Hasbro has not done that well lately, OUTSIDE of mtg. So the positive for us is the game is growing, and more sets will likely be printed going forward including masters sets. The downside is that more cards will get trashed due to reprintts and expensive masters products WILL be the norm. They have a higher gross margin and help hasbro/its shareholders.

    https://finviz.com/quote.ashx?t=HAS&ty=c&ta=0&p=m

Basically everything about masters sets will be a compromise because Hasbro has insisted WOTC do what it takes to move large amounts of product. Don't blame them directly... they have no choice.

Friend brand new to magic.. doesn't even really play yet just collects. Buys like 3 amonkhet packs randomly. Opens Damnation invocation and nicol bolas. Hes up so hes feeling great and I tell him it aint gonna happen again, tell him the odds etc. He buys a box of Kaladesh on a whim.

Not joking this is what was in this box. Chandra, Torrential Gearhulk, UR BG UG dual lands, SOL RING Masterpiece, Smugglers copter, aetherworks marvel... just an insane box(albeit not as good as it would have been right after the PT). Box was great and he just finds a 200 dollar bill in it... unreal.
I need to get this guy to split on a modern masters or iconic masters box with me..

Any other ridiculous luck in magic stories?

I did an EV calculation at todays prices as of the like 10th of September. Then a box would be worth an outstanding 370 on average BEFORE foils. 50ish uncommons, 243! rares and 74 in mythics. Now i think the mythics are overall pretty weak. I assumed mana drain at 150... maybe it ends up half that? Still any box with mana drain is CERTAINLY going to be profitable for a few months if not always. After that its a ton of EDH stuff much of which only has 1 printing. NPH and Future sight sets weren't printed that much... both 3rd sets i believe? If damnation is any sign the prices of big name cards could drop by 50%. I do think that this is going to destroy the price on many of these cards.. but my guess is for 1-2 weeks at release just opening packs will be profitable. But certainly all the non modern staples will go down by near half on economics alone. Visions, Canopy, Thoughtseize, Vial and such should hold 70-80% of their value due to being modern staples. But what do i know.

Opt seems good in flash creature decks. Clique, Spell Queller, Remand and such are cards to play with opt. Every other deck likely sticks with sleight or thought scour.

I think 20% for the super in demand rares, and 40% for the lower demand rares is reasonable. My box calculation for CURRENT prices is around 370/box before foils. My guess is that means we WILL see a 30-40% drop in many of the non staple cards, but the box will still be profitable for at LEAST 1-2 weeks after release. Buying and opening packs should be profitable for a while thanks to all the value. But it does have a TON of first time reprints with low to middling modern/legacy playability.

I think wizards planned for that. They reprinted a TON of first time reprints knowing it will basically bring these boxes to MSRP in value since people will open them until they get there. But certainly on release date it WILL be profitable just to crack packs and sell the contents.
