I like this list quite a bit! One thing I would consider would be Tormenting Voice, Mad Prophet, or Reckless Scholar as a way to filter your draws a bit, probably in place of the Curious Homunculus. I also agree that Niblis of Frost would likely be better than Halimar Tidecaller. If you go this route, and have some discard, it may also be worth considering putting in some burn like Fiery Temper or Avacyn's Judgment (Then again, I am a bit of a red mage at heart, so I could just like burn.)

Between Emrakthulhu's (my personal nickname for the new Emrakul) cost reduction ability, her collector's number (it looks like there will be a fair few colorless cards, and it would only make sense to have non-creature spells in there), and Delirium, I think that we may be getting a few cards with Tribal. Innistrad also has that tribal subtheme, so it would make sense here for that as well. I know that it is an 8 or 9 on the storm scale, but if there is ever a place for it, this is the one.

  • posted a message on [[JOU]] How did your prerelease go?
I ended up going 3-1, with the 1 being to the person who won the whole thing (He had double Dawnbringer Charioteer, 7 total main deck flyers, Prophet of Kruphix, Keranos, and enough fixing to support it.) I went with black because I thought that Constellation was cool, and I was right. Doomwake Giant never did as much as I had hoped, but was still good. Grim Guardian was surprisingly good, and Humbler of Mortals, despite having one of the worst names in the set, proved an effective finisher. Green was my second color because of getting Pharika in my seeded pack, but the hands down all-star of the day was King Macar. He pretty much single handedly won me all three games I drew him in. I was also a fan of the black Font. It triggers constellation, and getting dudes back from the yard is a powerful effect, especially with Kruphix's Insight - another strong card - to help send a few there. The reward for going 3-1 was three packs (a small prerelease, but a fun one), which got me a Keranos of my very own.

  • posted a message on Gruul Deck
I have to respectfully disagree with the previous opinion of Spire Tracer. Silhana Ledgewalker was pretty good back in Ravnica 1.0, as I recall, and while the Tracer doesn't have Hexproof, it is a pretty good one-drop. I might consider replacing it with Experiment One, if you only wanted the four one drops, or switch out the Skinbrand Goblins for the experiment. I never once felt that Skinbrand was worth the slot I gave it when I was playing Gruul at my prerelease, which should say something about that card. One card that I DID like was Viashino Shanktail. The Rampager is very good, but this guy is no slouch, either, and I think both could find a nice home in your deck. First Strike gave my opponents fits all day, and three power plus first strike takes out a certain Mr. Thragtusk quite effectively. Lastly, I am curious about the inclusion of Giant Growth in this deck. I know that pump is good at times other than your combat, but with the heavy dose of Bloodrush, why not go with either more creatures or more removal? I guess the Giant Growths just seem a little redundant to me in this deck, is all. Pit Fight worked well for me, and Mugging can kill creatures or open a path for hitting your opponent, or if you wanted more permanent pump, Madcap Skills is an absolutely brutal two drop (especially when on the previously mentioned Viashino Shanktail). Good luck with your deck!

  • posted a message on Golgari Help?
After buying the Golgari Intro pack and event deck, I am very much looking at this color pair. A few things I have noticed are these.

One: I really like Slitherhead. It is a turn one play (which is nice), and 0-cost scavenge is good. It is the card that I usually send to the yard with Jarad's Orders.

Two: Ulvenwald Tracker is great for removal, especially with Vampire Nighthawk.

Three: Korozda Guildmage's first ability is worth the card alone, especially when mixed with...

Four: This could just be my personal playstyle, but I think that mixing in some Exalted from M13 (Cathedral of War, Knight of Infamy, and maybe Nefarox) would work well in a deck like this. It seems that the best bet (and the way the deck has usually worked for me) is to send a small number of attackers each turn as opposed to a swarm tactic.

I wish you luck with your deck!

    Quote from egyeager
The general I think is the best fit for me though overall is Intet, the dreamer. The colors let me do combo, control or aggro and Intet herself is a powerhouse. I haven't played her in a long while because of how much she scares other players (something about 4 ways to tutor up Kiki-Jiki pestermite) but she is still my total favorite.

Now why would they be afraid of a silly little thing like that? :p

My personal favorite general is Palladia Mors. Not because he is good, he really isn't, but because I have an original Legends copy, making him a REAL Elder Dragon. Besides, I can think of worse color combinations than RGW.

  • posted a message on [SoM] Tuesday, 9/14 -- Skinrender, True Conviction, Embersmith, Precursor Golem
Skinrender looks like a limited powerhouse, and will definitely be finding a home in my casual zombie deck.

True Conviction seems pretty bad. Like, not even a 1-of in my lifegain deck bad.

Embersmith I don't have much of an opinion on, and Precursor Golem, well, to all the haters out there, the Golem triplets and their friend Empyrial Archangel would like to have a discussion with you, assuming you live past being smacked for 9 (or 15 if they are with their other friend, Tempered Steel) on turn SIX.

  • posted a message on [SoM] Previews for Thursday, September 9 - Kuldotha Forgemaster, Koth of the Hammer
Koth is bonkers. I mean, straight-up nuts. Totally not what I expected (still awaiting a red pw that Shatters), but probably better than what I would have expected, too. The -2 ability is crazy-go-nuts: it basically says "10 mana on turn FIVE, for crying out loud! Oh, by the way, the ultimate practically means no dead draws ever again. Ever. Is it JtMS or Elspeth? Not exactly. But I think it will definitely be a Standard staple for the next couple of years.

  • posted a message on [SoM] The Baseless Reprint Speculation Thread
I'm personally guessing that there will be some other sort of Locus friend for Cloudpost, as well as A rare artifact land, probably something akin to Glimmervoid. A single artifact land isn't broken, it's when you have 6 different ones, all at common, that it gets disgusting.

As for reprints? I'd say Ornithopter, but it was in M11. Probably Chromatic Sphere (or Star), as a Sunburst enabler. Pentad Prism would also fit the bill quite nicely.

  • posted a message on Scars of Mirrodin Planeswalker
My view on the whole Planeswalkers in SoM thing:

    Scars:
    Elspeth Tirol, Mono-White
    Koth, Mono-Red
    Venser, Mono-Blue

    Mirrodin Besieged:
Karn, Colorless (leader of the Mirrodin faction)
Some Mono-black 'walker (leader of the Phyrexian faction)

    Third Set:
    Unsure.

I also think that somewhere in the block, we will get a mono-green 'Walker, and a U/R Tezzeret. Why U/R? Quite simply because all the other x/R combinations have been done, and what I know of Wizards leads me to believe that they will finish this mega-cycle, if you will, before moving on to other color pairs (Nicol Bolas, Gimmick doesn't count.)

I know that 7 planeswalkers in the block is a LOT, but we have seen 4-5 in a set, and there were 6 in Zendikar block, so it doesn't seem like that big of a stretch (to me) to have a block with 7 'walkers.

  • posted a message on [M11] Prerelease Card -- Sun Titan
What I wouldn't give for that having any sort of class to accompany that Giant creature type. Soldier would be a nice one, but maybe too much to ask. Other than that, I don't mind it at all. 6 for a 6/6 Vigilance is meh, but bringing back something from the yard every turn is nice, especially since there is no chance to remove the Sun Titan before the first card is brought back.

This looks like a lot of fun. Casual as all get-out, but fun. Considering that I am far more of a casual player, I'm definitely on board. I'll be interested to see what the RG and GW deck hold.

The Johnny side of me says this + Bronze Bombshell + Intruder Alarm + Bazaar Trader. I do believe that that is game. I can't wait to get this card. Standard playable? Not really. A ton of fun? Abso-friggin-lutely!

The Urza lands (or Urzatron) are Urza's Tower, Urza's Power Plant, and Urza's Mine. I am not sure if they would print these again, as it seems as if we have another artifact block on the horizon. Also, with Cloudpost being the FNM card for May, there is some speculation about more Loci coming soon.

  • posted a message on [ROE] WoTC official previews 4-7! Wall of Omens, TukTuk
White Wall of Blossoms? Sign me up! For those that don't know why it will be in everything (practically), consider this: early game: slow down the heat your opponent is throwing at you, and get a card off the top to boot. Late game: you draw this, and then you basically have a cycling card that also results in a 0/4 chump. I didn't play when Wall of Blossoms was in Standard, but I have a casual deck that uses WoB as a draw engine (sac effects and Oversold Cemetery.) One card, over and over, adds up.

All that being said, no, I don't quite get the flavor of it. In this case, though, I can let that slide.
