"Go to combat" and "Declare attackers" are two drastically different things. One indicates the request to move to the combat phase, the other indicates the request to move to declare attackers step.
This part is incorrect, the default tornament shortcut for such statement is to pass to the point the opponent has priority in the beginning of combat step. Quote from Magic Tournament Rules.
Why would that be the case? So by saying "Go to combat" you're skipping your priority in combat too?
Unless I'm wrong, the turn moves to the next phase/step when both players pass priority in succession. If that's the case I see no reason why "Go to combat" is any different than "Move to the next phase/step". Please tell me if/why I'm wrong.
So combat has 5 steps (excluding first strike damage):
Beginning of combat
Declare attackers
Declare blockers
Combat damage
End of combat
If your opponent Vapor Snags during "Beginning of Combat" then you will not have a chance to replay it before your second main phase.
In real life you should say something along the lines of, "Go to combat?" or "Enter combat?"
That would be a shortcut to both of you passing priority during your main phase. Once you enter beginning of combat, you as the active player get priority and can cast any instants or abilities that can be used at instant speed. Then you will pass priority and your opponent may play instants such as Vapor Snag.
Note that if he waits until Declare Attackers to use vapor snag, the tokens will be created and will gain battle cry (depending on the way you stacked your triggers). This is because during Declare Attackers, first attackers are declared and then the active player gains priority.
I was playing the escort as additional food for the Peel from Reality.
I ended up losing in the third game of the 1st round. First game I flooded out after keeping a four lander, lost in 7 turns. Second game he had no play until turn 3 and I curved out perfectly. He conceded on turn 5. In the third game, we were close for a while, and about half way through, he Bone Splinter'd my Forcemage and killed my Tracker with his Undead Executioner (sacced to Bone Splinters). After that he just won the race.
Pack 1 pick 3: Elgaud Shieldmate over Crippling Chill
So yeah, I agreed with pretty much everything, except that I valued soulbonders slightly higher (since I think they are critical to the deck being good).
I can see this being the right pick. I probably just overvalue Crippling Chill but it's a tempo blowout that cantrips. While I do like the Shieldmate, a 2/3 body is lackluster on turn 4 (or later for that matter).
Pack 2 pick 5: Geist Snatch over Diregraf Escort
Geist Snatch is the clear pick here but I was low on creatures at this point (I think). I also never seem to find MD room for the Snatch.
So yeah, a pretty well drafted deck. Good luck with your games.
@Merl: Thanks for the feedback. My main question is: how highly should I be drafting Triumph of Ferocity?
Comments: Overall a pretty weak pack. I took the Borderland Ranger b/c it's a decent body, it fixes mana, and keeps me decently open. Other cards I considered: Homocidal Seclusion, Hanweir Lancer.
Pack 2 pick 1:
Crypt Creeper
Elgaud Shieldmate
Nephalia Smuggler (FOIL)
Outwit
Polluted Dead
Bladed Bracers
Wingcrafter
Death Wind
Demolish
Leap of Faith
Angelic Armaments

Comments: Best cards in this pack are: Tracker, Tandem Lookout, Thundrous Wrath, Deathwind. I debated the Lookout for a while, but took the Tracker. Prey Upon on a stick is too good to pass up.
Pack 2 pick 3:
Amass the Components

Comments: The pick here is Peel vs. Amass. I already have an Amass, and in the UG Soulbond/Tempo deck, I value Peel highly.

Comments: Would Desolate Lighthouse be the pick here?
Comments: This card shouldn't be in the pack. If I pick up a few Abundant growths I could theoretically splash this. Also, I don't see myself playing Havengul Skaab.
Pack 2 pick 9:

Outwit
Polluted Dead
Bladed Bracers

Listen Dude I'm running a modern Legal Deck in a Legacy Tournament. If you can't help dont't reply
You can defend yourself as much as you want, but it's still a bad deck. I'm sorry I'm not sugar coating it for you, but if you're expecting to do well at a tournament with this, you should rethink it.

I feel pretty good about the draft, but I'm almost positive I made mistakes during deck building. What would you have built?

Alright, thanks for the input on the Triumph.
And, yup, it was a nice play by him.
I ended up losing in the third game of the 1st round. First game I flooded out after keeping a four lander, lost in 7 turns. Second game he had no play until turn 3 and I curved out perfectly. @Merl: Thanks for the feedback. My main question is: how highly should I be drafting Triumph of Ferocity?
