Lastwhisper posted a message on The Mafia Council & Helpdesk ThreadOn the terms of policy lynching, "I will Lynch you every game regardless of your alignment", is overall just poor and unfriendly behavior... Though if you change the statement to, I would Lynch X this game regardless of his alignment because of how he is playing, that's fair game, and it's more of just a statement then an actual thing, because I doubt anyone would would actually vote like that. Policy lynching is wrong on a macro level, but not so much on a micro level, that's my conclusionPosted in: Mafia -

KamikazeArchon posted a message on The Mafia Council & Helpdesk ThreadI think banning "lynching regardless of alignment" is not feasible and doesn't actually do what you want it to do, Osie.Posted in: Mafia
The first problem is that "lynching" is not, strictly speaking, a game action that players can take. Players only cast votes.
You could forbid hammering "regardless of alignment", but that doesn't address many situations - if threshold is 7 and the first 6 votes were "regardless of alignment" votes and the last one was a scum read, I don't think that satisfies Osie's concern.
You could forbid voting "regardless of alignment", but that is quite wide and would forbid several actions taken in Mafia games right now:
- RVS voting by definition doesn't care about alignment.
- Any form of joking vote.
- Most forms of pressure vote.
- Direct vote-based mechanics (in complex power role games, "who you voted for" is sometimes relevant).
And there's still a problem with indirect mechanical effects. Simple example: We know there's exactly one cop in the game, X and Y both claim it. A player has no read on either and decides to just vote X, knowing the flip will solve it either way.
Further, this all only really applies to town players. Scum by definition are not trying to figure out alignments. A rule that only applies one way has all kinds of angle-shooty possibilities that are unfortunate.
I think what you want is more like "don't use OOG preference to determine votes." That's more feasible, though you'll still run into confirmation bias. On the one hand, if A doesn't like B, or doesn't like B's playstyle, it's very easy for A to convince themselves that B must be scum.
All rules necessarily have false positives and false negatives, of course, but they're worth considering. -

Silvercrys3467 posted a message on The Mafia Council & Helpdesk ThreadI think Kami was just saying that we -- the Council -- are ultimately the authority that decides whether probation or blacklisting is the appropriate course of action when things get out of hand. I doubt he meant to imply that no one should express an opinion on the matter.Posted in: Mafia
For what it's worth, I value the external input, particularly from board moderators and former Councilors like Iso, but also just from regular members; what you all consider to be over the line, etc. is important to me (at least) because this isn't my mafia forum, it's yours.
That said, we're discussing this internally for the moment. I'm not comfortable having an in-depth public discussion about it until after the game is over, since I'd like to avoid damaging the integrity of the game any further. -

I don't suppose there is a sign up going up soon? I have a fantastic new job that keeps me busy but I've been itching to play mafia the right way (that is, in a timely fashion that does not require me to post on mobile way too much) but I admit... I have gotten rusty. I may be around Iso level these days ;). Kidding my old friend, kidding of course.

Ecophagy posted a message on The Mafia Council & Helpdesk ThreadHi everyone. I am regrettably announcing that after just over seven years, I am retiring from the Mafia council. It's been a satisfying honour to help guide the subforum through its ups and downs over that period, but after so long I can no longer muster the motivation and engagement required to properly fulfil the responsibilities of the Council. However, with the current combination of experienced hands and enthusiastic new blood, I have every confidence in the Council and the subforum going forward.Posted in: Mafia
As part of my retirement I will be transferring control of the discord server to current Council member SilverCrys, who will probably look at instating some moderators on it.
I will still be around on the discord, and I will doubtless continue to play occasionally. I am still keen to review games, and will always be open to discussing mafia theory and mentoring.
My sincere thanks to everyone I've worked with: councillors, secretaries, and forum mods alike. Special thank you to all the players and game hosts past and present: without you we wouldn't have our wonderful little corner of the internet, and I am so proud that I have helped look after it.
Here's to the future.

Feyd_Ruin posted a message on as a female player the new art style females is getting really annoyingIt might be a fantasy game in a fantasy world, but I still want a bit of realism. We have a storyline, and a sense of immersion with these characters and worlds.Posted in: Magic General
Sure, Liliana has a "seductress" quality to her, and doesn't wear armor. Showing a little skin and going out of her way to be attractive fits her motif. If it fits and is realistic, I'm fine with it.
That said, no right minded warrior is going to charge into battle wearing a metal bikini. That's absurd, ridiculous, and absolutely destroys the immersion. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

It doesn't do a very good job of it.
As someone who's recently bought into Legacy, I have a full playset of duals, LEDs, and City of Traitors, and I am still 100% on board with the abolishing of the Reserved List. It really just needs to go.

The former is Commander-playable (and has fringe applications in Legacy), and the latter is potentially playable in Commander, Legacy, and Modern.
Whereas with Pelakka Wurm, what deck would you put that in? Commander "bad creatures tribal"?
