    Welcome to Ocularia, where teams battle for glory, power and the entertainment of the masses! The current challenge pits ten teams of thirteen Planeswalkers against each other in a battle for the Throne of Ascension! The Architect has set the Arena, with objects and creatures specially designed for these most unusual combatants. Who will win such a powerful prize?

    general notes:
    this was developed a long time ago (Khans ish). I was really hoping to get actual testing in before showing it online, but no such luck. As such, it uses some old standards, though my next step is to bring things a little more up to date. The redirect rule going away has definitely made some designs less elegant. Wizards has also stepped on my toes a few times since then. This almost feels like it could be set on Kylem (Battlebond plane), but I don't think I want it to.

    This project was designed with drafting in mind, but I tried not to do anything Wizards absolutely wouldn't do for a Standard set. (that's less true in my current project)

    I'm sorry nothing has names, yet. It's not my area of expertise. As a gimmick, I want everything that wasn't created by the Architect to be formatted as [Planeswalker's] [Thing]. But I'm still well short of fluffing the Planeswalkers themselves.

    I'm generally unhappy with adapt. my goal was to have one static combat keyword for each color pair. UB and UR were difficult. Stealth has typically been green, but i think it makes sense in the colors with generally lower power and generally higher toughness. I may switch it with Skulk now that that's a thing. But UR is a pain. existing, sensible keywords are all triggers, and so is mine. I really want to switch it out, but am coming up empty. And, now the name will have to change, too.

    the creatures are intentionally less exciting than usual. there's enough complexity with all the extra Planeswalkers running around.

    I have a few other thoughts (mostly unhappiness with certain cards), but I'll keep them to myself to see if anyone else notices. for now, at least.

    you can discount the 2M/14R ratio for one simple reason. there aren't that many rares. 53 in the set, 56 needed for that mix.

You need to play during the Launch Events on the 9th/10th. even though those will be more likely drafts, and these promos make a ton more sense for sealed, which is the only way to play on the 2nd/3rd and the norm for pre-releases.

    they do, actually. this is exactly how one of the dominaria sheets looks.

    They print commons on 2 sheets of 121 cards. one has cards on it 2x, the other 3x, with one card on both sheets once. print 3 of the first for 2 of the second, and all but that weird card has the same rarity (and the other is 5:6, reasonably close)

    each of those two sheets is then cut in "half", so there are four groups of commons. one has 33 cards twice (66 total), one 27 cards twice + 1 once (55), once 22 cards thrice (66), and once 18 cards thrice + 1 once (55).

    each pack always gets some number of cards from the first two runs, and the rest of the pack from either of the last two runs. so, to guarantee as best as possible that each pack will have at least one common of each color, the first two runs are strongly color coded. in Dominaria, the first run is 100% red, white and blue (and you usually get 3 or 4 cards per pack), and the second is 100% black and green (and you usually get 2 or 4 cards per pack). foils can mess with that, and the occasional mistake happens, but otherwise, you are guaranteed 1-2 cards in each color in the first 5-8 cards in the pack. the other two runs are a lot more random.

    So, this is very clearly the 33x2 run, and we're likely to get one more blue card soon. whether the second half of the sheet made it to packs is a guess, but it might take years for that particular set of boxes to get opened.

    half of one, I think. I don't know exactly how the sheets are processed after being cut in half, but it's possible they caught the other half. but even if it's out there, the cards could be very far apart geographically and may take some time to surface.

    it's normal to not have a good color mix. that way no matter where in the runs you are, you'll get cards from all colors. The 33x2 run (A) in Dominaria, for example, is 11 each red, white and blue cards, and the 22x3 run (B) is 11 black and green cards. So, this mirrors the Dominaria sheet pretty well. if/when the other half surfaces, we can expect a better mix; the Dominaria one is 3-5 of each color and 8 artifacts.

    I think it's more going the way of the stack; it still exists, but it's never mentioned in card text.

    At least the stack gets a mention on the reminder text for split second, and the stack is an actual zone. The mana pool has always been pretty nebulous since it can't contain actual, physical objects (even if you use dice to represent mana). Stuff like Upwelling and Worldpurge got changed to "lose mana." I'm not crazy about losing the mana pool, though I just wish that they'd used a word other than "add," which reads ugly imo.


    Llanowar Elves should just be T: G. It even parallels the basics to some extent.

    ok, so when Origins added 5 Mythics on a DFC sheet, but in the rare slot in the packs, they adjusted the normal rare sheet to keep the ratios.

    I'm curious why they didn't do that this time (17/52, most likely). makes me think the DFCs in this set won't be in the rare slot of the packs, and will either replace a common like SoI, or (unlikely) the basic land.

    sorry if this was known, I skimmed and didn't see anything.

    snow mana isn't about being cold. it's a special type of mana, used by a small group of people who in the story are 1500 years dead. there was snow on Kamigawa. there was snow on Tarkir. but there was never a chance for snow mana there because that's not what snow mana is.

    we're not going to see snow in an expert set without a retcon of what snow is, or a change in story philosophy that allows us to see an expansion set in the right part of history.


    edit: honestly, it doesn't matter, and it's something I never should have brought up anyway. I was just trying to keep people from getting (what I consider) unreasonable hopes up, but it's not really my place to do so. For those of you who obviously want it, I hope you eventually get something you can love.

    for those hoping for another snow set, i think you're looking at it wrong. the biggest issue with another snow set is the timeline. Ice age and Coldsnap happened a long, long (long) time ago. and Snow mana isn't just something that exists when it's cold. it's a special and, thus far, unique type of mana. something that has no reason to just pop up again on Dominaria, let alone a completely different plane. So, the switch to solo sets shouldn't make another snow set any more likely than it was yesterday (which, I'm sorry, was not at all likely)

    But, there is another part to this announcement. The new core sets are said to be about the history of characters. so, if we are going to see more snow, imo, it's actually more likely to see in one of the new Core sets. but even that is a stretch, as it would require a current character to have a connection to events that are thousands of years old. it would also require snow to be determined to be newbie-friendly enough. which is probably not what you all are looking for anyway.

    edit: but, all that being said, the most likely place to see more Snow is and has been in a side product. A Commander deck, the summer bonus set slot, and now maybe even a future Archenemy set.
