The only lands that I currently own are basic lands. I'm looking to get some non-basic lands so that I can build multi-colored decks. I don't have any particular decks in mind, rather, I just want a collection of land cards that I can use to make decks of any color.
I made a list of all the dual land cards that are within my budget. I think I would like to acquire four copies of each of these cards. But I think that the list can still be cut down further. Please do help me cut this list down by eliminating any cards that you think are unnecessary. NB: I really can't afford the cards that aren't listed here!
What is the general MO of an MTG business that sells cards? The MO of a business that sells used cards seems pretty obvious / self-explanatory. What about businesses that sell new MTG cards?
I'm guessing that the MO is pretty basic.
1. Buy a bunch of core sets / expansion sets / booster packs in wholesale lots
2. Extract individual cards from the packs and assign a price to each individual card based on market value.
3. Sell individual cards.
How does this process generate profit for the dealer? It can only generate profit if the individual cards in the booster pack have a combined value that is greater than the value of the booster pack itself. Suppose you buy a booster pack for $5; you could only make a profit from that pack if the total value of the individual cards in the pack was greater than $5.
Out of curiosity, how often does this happen? How often do you purchase a booster pack and find that the cards in it have a value greater than the pack itself? If this doesn't happen very often, how do such businesses survive? And if it does happen very often, why wouldn't Wizards just increase the cost of booster packs?
Hmm... why exactly is blood lust a bad idea for my deck? I personally like it a lot more than fatal frenzy. Consider Mogg Fanatic or Hellspark Elemental - they have power 1, 3 respectively. If I use fatal frenzy, the power doubles going to 2, 6 respectively. But if I use blood lust, the power goes to 5, 7 respectively. And blood lust doesn't require me to sac the mogg fanatic at the end of the turn.
E.g.
Turn 1: Mountain, Mogg Fanatic
Turn 2: Mountain, Blood Lust, Attack for 5 straight to the dome!
@Kiljo, I agree that flame slash could be cut because it only targets creatures. But Act of Treason doesn't target the creature, it takes control of the creature and can target the opponent's dome. I love playing this card when my opponent busts out his best creature!
I'm interested in building a deck around a playset of Cruel Ultimatum. I think the simplest thing to do is to make it a three colored deck: UBR (exclude white and exclude green).
Next, Creatures: I would essentially have liked to make this a creatureless deck, but having a creature in your graveyard is one of the necessary conditions for playing cruel ultimatum. So, I'm trying to run creatures that can be evoked so that they directly go into my graveyard. Mulldrifter and Shriekmaw are good choices because both have evoke abilities that I could anyway use in my deck.
Alternatively, instead of going with evoke creatures, I could go with elemental creatures (Ball lightning, Hellspark elemental).
I'm interested in making a control + burn blue-black deck. I'm not sure if this is possible, but I find it fascinating. Mostly I want to find a perfect home for a playset of Undermine.
What is recommended? Are there any other cards of the burn-control genre? I was wondering if it would be possible for me to build a deck in which most of the instant / sorcery cards also have burn.
If you had to select one card to represent each colour which ones would you choose? I'm not looking for the best card but rather the card that best represents the characteristic features of its colour.
My picks:
Blue: Counterspell (counter)
Red: Lightning Bolt (direct damage)
Black: Doom Blade (creature kill)
White: Day of Judgment (balance)
Green: Some large creature?
So, in real life this problem has an obvious solution. But in MTGO, since we're dealing with digital objects rather than physical objects, how do I throw away cards that I don't want? I don't want any of the planeswalker cards that came free with my account because they're not allowed and it becomes really confusing for me to see them listed on my card list all the time.
Hey, thanks for the response. The reason I was having problems was that I was trying to play in the "New Player" room. I figured out that I have to play in the "constructed classic" category.
I recently downloaded MTGO. I then went on to the MTGO traders website and bought a bunch of cards to replicate a red burn deck that I've been playing with in real life (nothing special, I spent roughly $10 on it).
The problem is that my friends and I don't really pay attention to the "format" of our play. We just play casually and we play with any card no matter when it was printed or whatever.
Anywho, when I built my deck out of the cards that I purchased, I noticed that I'm unable to play it on MTGO. MTGO seems to have very strict rules about "format" and what not. When I try to start a new game, I get an error message saying that the following cards are illegal: {Blood Lust, Hellspark Elemental, Mogg Fanatic, Ball Lightning, etc.}
What should I do? Is there any way I can play with these cards? I'm not able to figure out how to start a casual game on MTGO where I can play such cards. When I try to start a new game, the only options I see for game type are: {Planeswalker, Freeplay Current Core Set Theme Decks & Standard}.
Thanks very much for any advice on what to do.

PS: I'm only playing this game for fun! I'm not trying to get into tournaments or anything like that.

Sacrifice Mogg Fanatic: Mogg Fanatic deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
When my opponent pulls out a card that forces me to sac a creature, can I use Mogg Fanatic's ability? If so, how do I do it on MTGO?
