Did a midnight at a fairly newbie friendly store. Only 4 rounds, each round a pack round, with no prizes for top finishers to make up for it. Kinda sad this was the setup as I proceed to go undefeated off the back of a slow-rolling but powerful G/R/b deck, the black splash specifically for a pair of Reaper of the Wilds that carried me to victory pretty much every single game. Turns out a 4/5 for 4 that trades with anything, smooths your draws, and is next to impossible to remove is a really powerful thing. Surprise surprise.
Also, anyone who insists this is a slow format clearly hasn't played enough of it. It's pretty firmly midrange, and aggro decks are more than possible, as the noon prerelease I lose to 3 G/R aggro decks with a Blue fliers beast (Thassa, Sphinxes, and a white splash for Medomai) that just couldn't keep up.
Ended up with awesome stuff though. Opened and promptly sold Purphoros, Stormbreath, and Xenagos, more than paying for the two prereleases, without even selling Thassa.

Though he bristled a little at the 'robot' comment, Zz'zack realized that few people in this area would have ever met one of his race, and that comments like that were sure to be common. If he took every comparison to the dumb machines as a personal slight, he'd have to declare war on the entire populous of Maginon VII. Besides, wasn't the unusual and new what he had come out to find in the first place?
"I am zzorry, I completely vvorgot to indroduzze myzzelvv! My name izz Zz'zack, and my kind is called the Kz'azz. You are right, we are not robotzz. Kz'azz are...well, zzimply put, we are zzentient energy. The unabriged verzzion of that is more technical than I have ever cared to learn. I prevver to think of myzzelvv as an artizzt rather than a biologizzt."
When Iton warned him to step back, Zz'zack retreated quite a few steps. While excess heat was not as problematic to his species as extreme cold could get, it was still a very unpleasant experience. He was happy just to watch the Elrith work, fascinated at how such a large being was capable of fairly delicate movements. It also didn't seem to matter where Iton was facing, he always knew what was going on...and the 'smell' comment from before tickled Zz'zack's thoughts too.

Zz'zack dusted off his hands, looking at his new transportation with a critical eye. He hadn't had much to work with, or rather, had far too much and nothing that matched, but the final product was... acceptable. It lacked symmetry or grace, but it made up for it with a sort of mish-mashed charm. The real test would be to see if the thing worked. He climbed inside the cockpit and hesitantly ran a digit across the starting button, bracing himself for disappointment. When he was met with a smooth hum and an array of soft lights illuminating in unison, he grinned and declared "VVantazztic!"
He looked up, preparing to move the ship to the local starport so it wouldn't be taking up junkyard space if he decided to stay on the planet for a while longer, and found himself suddenly distracted by a massive individual he had somehow managed to completely fail to notice during his time working on the ship. The alien seemed to be in the junkyard for the same purpose as Zz'zack, but seemed to be having a couple problems retrofitting the smaller ships for his larger frame. The Kz'azz turned his own machine off and hopped out of it once again, walking until he was in a conversational distance with the...gentleman? Gentlewoman? The gentlealien.
"Hello! I zzee you are havving zzome divvicultiezz. Perhapzz I can lend a hand? Tighten a vvew zzcrews?" he asked the titan.
((OOC note for Iton: Zz'zack would smell strongly of metal and ozone, especially when he talks, as his 'speaking' is essentially electrocuting the air to make it vibrate in the appropriate fashion. Thus his unique f's and s's.))

A little bewildered by the violent trip to the surface immediately followed by the eager and remarkably kind-hearted alien dragging Zz'zack into the city, the Kz'azz can't quite bring himself to say anything but a confused, "Zzank you." The words buzz through the air long after the alien has departed, leaving Zz'zack to stare at the broken down ships before him, his mind still attempting to catch up with events.
His senses manage to do so a bit before his reason, his head cocking as he begins scanning over the junkyard materials. Most of it was titanium, plastics, some heavier metals where engines needed radiation shielding. Common materials. Crass. It certainly wouldn't do to build-birth a child-project from anything here, but then, Zz'zack was still too young for that kind of thinking anyway. However, he was certain he could do something with the wreckages that could get a scoutship functioning again.

Belief System: The universe is both canvas and breeding ground, and the Kz'azz travel it seeking new and beautiful materials to sculpt with before slivering off a fragment of self to animate their new art and perpetuate the species. Occupation: Artist Back Story: Zz'zack's father-sculptor chose an interesting material when he birth-crafted his progeny, using magnets to hold a liquid ferrofluid in a solid state before slivering his self into it. The unique material and harmonics within have imbued Zz'zack with even more wanderlust than most of his species possess, and he set his sights on a galaxy few Kz'azz have heard of, let alone visited. With a thirst for discovery and an eye for beauty, Zz'zack enters Maginon VII dreaming of fame, fortune, and true art.
A safe that has no lock? It might be quite the perplexing problem. To someone who wasn't a worlds-hopping art thief with a soft spot for challenges, perhaps. And, while certainly no art, the cheese was proving quite the challenge to keep track of, perhaps even moreso than any work I've possessed so far. Unfortunately, this was a simple problem, and only took a matter of shaping the dull safe into a darksteel representation of one of my favorite sculptures, a stylized hyacinth with the cheese lying so perfectly in the middle. Seeing no reason to disrupt this art, I simply took the whole thing, darksteel flower and all, and hid it expertly. Only one with deft enough fingers to take my Expedition Map would know where to find the thing.
Ah, this is a delightful game. By this point, Grey should be discovering that what his brute of a bull -thought- was the cheese was actually a lactose free substitute placed there by yours truly. The real Cheese is now currently circling the globe, safely kept in cool box, in a larger box, on a chariot pulled by a pair of Rocket-Powered Turbo Slugs. The Simic do have such interesting breeding programs, I must admit. Now I simply await another chance to take the cheese back once again.
Sure thing! It was the first time you ever played, a total string of luck, and you've never been able to replicate the feat since, driving you into a pit of Bejeweled despair as you attempt to regain that glimmer of wonder you once saw.
It is extremely fortunate that, having spent quite a bit of time residing in Equilor under its fading sun and relaxing chronology, I have learned the art of patience. And the benefits of having a good sense of humor. So after being colored, bombarded, and otherwise inconvenienced, I used the generous two hours given to clean myself off before opening the, now unlocked, safe, and absconding with The Cheese. Not understanding exactly what all the fuss was about, though, I decided that keeping The Cheese was not nearly so valuable as acquiring it, and tucked it into a nearby Gravity Sphere. With a gorgeous Moat surrounding it, of course. No sense in being completely lax on security.
