Just 5-0'd a Modern Competitive League beating Dredge (2-0), R/G Valakut/Breach (2-0), Jund (2-0), Dredge (2-1) and Kiki Chord (2-1) using the following list:
In G/W what are some good cards vs. Bant Eldrazi, Soul Sisters and Elves? Haven't been able to win a game vs. those decks. Bant Eldrazi is the one I am most concerned about.
Has anyone given any thought for Stromkirk Noble? It actually kills a turn earlier than Delver (Delver is 8 turns, assuming a turn 2 flip and Noble is 7 turns). I understand that it is a worse top deck and it can get blocked on the ground but having a strong one drop that we can just protect and ride to victory is pretty important for this deck imo.
Hey guys, did you guys see Craig Wescoe's GW Flicker deck? Obviously it is closer to hatebears but I think there can be a very good D&T version. I haven't been all that happy with Thalia as of late and flex spots like serra avenger, mirran crusader, finks, mindcensor etc have been underwhelming. What do you guys think of the list I put together? Btw, if you haven't seen his deck tech you can find it here: Link
So I am thinking of coming back to this deck after a bit of a hiatus from Modern. I'm actually pretty excited about trying out a list a bit closer to the Legacy version and run Ghost Quarters. This manabase is probably too painful but I really want to try out 4x Ghost Quarters to beat Tron/Eldrazi and hope that all the green creatures/counters/removal to beat aggro decks.
So I am planning on playing this list today. I tried out 4 Mangaras before and it was fantastic, I then added 2 restos and they worked amazingly and now I am going for maximum greed and just playing the playset.
So this build is fantastic. I highly recommend trying it out. I played 8 games vs burn before the tournament (3 pre and 5 post) and won 6/8 of them (2 pre and 4 post). It was a 3 round tournament and I played Jund (2-1), G/R Tron (2-1) and Jund (2-0). The only change I would make as of now would be to take out the Crusaders in the board. I didn't even want them in the Jund matchup and that was what they were in the board for!

I'm going to play with 4 Serra Avengers today and just borrow the 4th Mangara from a friend. I'll just see if I would ever rather the Avengers be Restos when I draw them.
The Restos and 4th Mangara are in the mail so I'll try it out next week regardless.
I will def be destroying lands with GQ early if I have arbiter/mindcensor and taxing with Thalia/Wingmare. The Mangara plan is just the 2nd phase where I slow them down with my early LD and tax and then lock them out with Mangara/Resto or Wisp/Resto (eating a land for a turn) and killing them shortly afterwards. I don't need to be casting Resto on turn 4, I generally don't kill with this deck until turn 6-8+ and games often go long (but even games that go to turn 8+ are with few resources with both players having 4 or less lands).
Resto is just there to give me more game vs. midrange and sometimes aggro while still helping my tax/LD game plan with Mangara/Wisp. It is also the reason why I am going up to 4 Mangara, because is helps attacking the mana base and by acting as additional pieces of removal.
Honestly, it may just be better to play 4 Avengers or 3 Avenger/1 Dismember instead of the Restos. The Restos are just a much higher power level/upside though.
Do you guys think it is too greedy to play 4 restos alongside 4 Hierarchs, 4 vials and 22 lands (4 GQ and 4 Tec Edge)?
This is the list that I plan on playing next week (my 4th foil Mangara and 4 foil Restos won't come in time for this week's event so I'll be playing a version with 4 Serra Avengers and a Dismember today instead):
So I haven't played with my proposed build yet but after thinking about it does seem worse. I do want to try out a new build though and this one seems quite good on paper. I am still a more focused taxing list but I am going all in on Mangara since it is good with the mana denial plan and just acts as extra removal. Adding a few Restoration Angels to help us have more double Mangara activations and it really makes our mid range matchups much better. With that in mind, I added another land. My main consideration before I take this to a local event is whether I want to play the 3rd Resto Angel or play a Dismember in the main instead. Or alternatively, I can cut the 23rd land and the restos and play 4 Serra Avenger/3 Serra Avenger and a Dismember.
So I had a ton of local success with my old list constantly going 3-0, 3-1 or 4-0 depending on the store I went to but I always found that I won a huge % of my games from just locking out my opponents early/tempoing them out before they could stabilize. Eternal Witness was great and did let me grind out some games and Serra Avenger is a nice efficient beater but I really want to make a successful full on tax/tempo version.
I'll be playing the following list this week (had to get a few more foil Mangaras so was only able to put it together this week):
I'm really interested in playing faeries again but I am not a fan of the emphasis on control variants (tons of 4 drops in Cryptic and Mistbind, I think it is just too slow for Modern). So, I want to play a much more tempo based version. Has anyone had any success in playing a list like this?
