So I haven't had much time to play recently but was able to make it out to a 4 round event last night and ended up going 3-1 (0-2 vs UR Twin, 2-0 vs RUG Twin, 2-1 vs 8Rack, 2-1 vs Grixis Twin and I also played 6 pre-board matches for fun vs. tron and won 4 of them) with the following list:

I was really happy with my mainboard atm. I could see swapping some # of Serra Avenger but they play a vital role. The mainboard feels very consistent.

The Eternal Witnesses were fantastic all night. I was able to out grind my Grixis opponent by going Wit into Wit into Wit into Flickerwisp blinking Wit into Wingmare in a really long game. The witnesses generally brought back a GQ/Tec Edge to lock people out of the game.

I'm planning on making a few more SB changes for next week:
    -1 Mirran Crusader
    -1 Qasali Pridemage
    -2 Phyrexian Revoker
    +1 Sunlance
    +1 Spellskite
    +1 Burrenton Forge-Tender
    +1 Kataki, War's Wage

WB lists have a ton of powerful options such as Sculler, Bob, Fulminator Mage, Pontiff and Sin Collector along side lands like Vault but the big issue isn't the power level of the splash but the stability of the manabase. The main reason why I've chosen to splash green is due to Razorverge Thicket, Horizon Canopy and Noble Hierarch. Black and Red just don't have the options for fixing (I believe both would be stronger splashes, with black being the strongest, than green). We need them to complete the cycle of fast lands and possibly give us something to compete with Horizon Canopy.

Blue splashes can have a decent manabase (all though less powerful since you don't have Horizon Canopy) with Seachrome Coast and the blue pain land.

I honestly would love to play a Bant D&T list but I think a UG fast land would be needed (it might not be) or Meddling Mage/Vendilion Clique to be better positioned... or they could just reprint Edric, Spymaster of Trest for Modern Smile

So my phone's camera is pretty awful but here is my foiled out GW list, I'll take a better picture when I have the deck in a well lit place.

I have a ton more "other" cards but those are just my foil ones. This deck is really a 125-130 card deck, its nuts.

But what opponent does that? Crack fetch, hold priority and then pay for search? I don't think I've ever had an opponent do it that way. They always pay 2 for search and then crack their fetch.

BGR are the better colors in modern. Blue is ok but mainly on the back of a select few cards (snap, cryptic, visions, remand). White is pretty horrible and is mostly just a small splash color or for SB options.

With that in mind, I wouldn't mind them unbanning cards to help white out and maybe blue by a bit. Stoneforge and Ancestral are fine. But honestly a few reprints would go a lot further in helping the situation (Mom would be pretty cool to have in the format but I don't think it is needed, something like Rishadan Port would help out tribal and aether vial strategies like merfolk, goblins and d&t).

I am playing GW D&T at a local PPTQ this weekend and the meta there has a ton of fish. What cards in Green and White give Merfolk the hardest time? Choke? I know you guys play a ton of lands that aren't islands and you have vial so that doesn't seem great. Worship? Seems awesome vs. Merfolk but may be too narrow (Good vs. Zoo, Affinity and Burn?... Sort of?)

I'll be taking this list to today's Modern tournament:

I've gone 3-0 and 2-1 with the deck the last two events I took it to (this LGS only has 3 round Modern tournaments and the other LGS that has 4 round tournaments is closed for renovations for all of August).

I also received the rest of my foil Razorverge Thickets, Noble Hierarchs, Horizon Canopy and Forge-Tenders in the mail! I currently have another foil Dissension Ghost Quarter and 4 Original Ravnica Temple Gardens in the mail as well. I should have them for the PPTQ this Sunday!

I currently have these left to pick up before my entire deck is foil!

    3x Horizon Canopy
4x AEther Vial (I only want Darksteel ones)
    1x Ghost Quarter (Dissension)
    2x Spellskite

I'll make sure to post a picture once I have it completed (the Canopies are going to be rough).

    I ended up going 2-1.

    Match 1: Burn

Game 1: I dismantled him by going Hierarch, Arbiter + GQ, Thalia, Wingmare.

    SBing
    +4 Forge-Tender
    +2 Spellskite
    +1 Thalia
    +1 Wingmare
    +1 Scavenging Ooze
    +1 Qasali Pridemage

    -4 AEther Vial
    -1 Mangara
    -1 Dismember
    -3 Serra Avenger
    -1 Flickerwisp

Game 2 I was able to play a turn 1 Forge-Tender into a turn 2 Spellskite but he ran over me with his 2x Goblin Guide, 3x Swiftspear into multiple Lava Spike hand.

Game 3 I traded off some of my creatures and used double forge-tender to protect my scooze and eventually won with a 7/7 scooze. I was at 4 life.

    (2-1)

My opponent had some very good draws with an opening goblin guide every game (2x in two of the games) but this is a pretty favorable matchup for my build.

    Match 2: Affinity

Game 1: We went back and forth trading resources and I eventually got him in a situation where the play was to sac everything to to ravager and onto a vault skirge to stay alive/win the race. I had two draw steps to basically win the game (path, qasali, flickerwisp all won the game and all my flying creatures were redraws since they blocked for a turn) but I ended up drawing a vial and a land and loss a close game.

My SB plan is that I keep both Vials and Stony Silence in on the play and live with the nonbo (since vial + avenger is fantastic in thsi matchup) but take out the vials on the draw since they are too slow.

    SBing
    +3 Stony Silence
    +1 Qasali Pridemage
    +1 Vryn Wingmare

    -4 Leonin Arbiter
    -1 Mangara

Game 2: Serra Avenger after a turn 1 vial start is incredibly strong. I am able to save it from a galvanic blast with a flickerwisp and he whipflares a flickerwisp and wingmare. But Serra Avenger with exalted is too much for him and he dies.

    Sbing
    -4 AEther Vial

    +1 Scavenging Ooze
    +1 Thali, Guardian of Thraben
    +2 Spellskite

Serra Avenger is a bit slow on the draw and without vials but they are a house once they are in play so I kept them in anyways. Could be a mistake.

Game 3: I mulligan a hand of Noble Hierarch, Flickerwisp, Serra Avenger and 4 lands which 1 of them were a ghost quarter (I am pretty sure this hand is just too slow since I need to top deck to do anything outside of hierarch into wisp). I peeked at the top 2 and both were lands...yea yea results orientated. My new 6 had a Stony Silence, Hierarch, 2 lands, Qasali Pridemage, Thalia. I played out hierarch and he galvanic blast it on his turn 2 and he had an early signal pest and vault skirge. I played my Stony Silence vs. his opening hand of double darksteel and a spellskite. I end up using pridmage to kill the vault skirge (over teh pest which may or may not of been a mistake but he only had pest and spellskite). He is only dealing 1-3 dmg a turn but I am unable to draw anything useful and miss on 3-4 consecutive draw steps (2nd Stony Silence, a land, hierarch, etc). He plays an etched champion and I respond with a pridemage and am forced to blow it on his freshly drawn plating. I draw two more lands and am dead. I think this game was very winnable but my deck didn't want to cooperate.

    (1-2)

    Match 3: Esper Control

Game 1: I have an opening hand of GQ x2, Mindcensor, Flickerwisp, Vial, 2 more lands. On turn 4 I double strip mine him and he stuck on 1 land. I drew another GQ and Tectonic Edge and kept him under 3-4 lands the entire game with a full grip that he could barely cast but out of 16 total cards seen, I drew 12 lands (4 spells being vial, wisp, mindcensor and arbiter). This game should of been an easy win but it just didn't happen. Lingering Souls and Verdict on his side was enough for me to scoop.

    SBing
    +1 Thalia
    +1 Wingmare
    +1 Scavenging Ooze

    -3 Path

I saw collonade, souls and snap as his only creatures. So I only kept in a single path and dismember.

Game 2: I went turn 1 Hierarch into Arbiter + GQ into Thalia into Wingmare with another GQ mixed in somewhere and it was over before it started. He was able to play a Tasigur.

    SBing
    +2 Mirran Crusader
    +1 Path

    -3 Qasali Pridemage

In response to him having black delve creatures.

Game 3: This was another pretty slanted game but it was a combination of Thalia, Wingmare and Scooze (played a scooze and ate his souls after he tapped out to play it and it kept his snaps at bay). Tec edge was pretty great as well to keep him on 3-4 mana and leaving a verdict stranded in hand (which cost 6 mana).

    (2-1)

I really like my current build and I am looking forward to playing it at this weekend's PPTQ! I can't wait to finish foiling it out! Smile

    I know!

I recently bought one from SCG for $15 (Dissension) but when I looked at TCG to grab the other 3 I need to complete the playset there were only 2 available by 2 different sellers for $30 and $40 each! I don't get it. They are really hard to find. (Only talking about Dissension)

Well you want a minimum of 13-14 sources to reliably cast Noble Hierarch on turn 1 (or off AEther Vial; Ideally it is 14 sources but you can shave a source to account for AEther Vial). You also only need 13-15 white sources for double white on turn 3 (Ideally it is 19 sources but 4 are from Noble Hierarch and you can probably shave another 1 or 2 due to AEther Vial). If you have double white for turn 2 then you need a ton more white sources (outside of Serra Avenger since that doesn't come down until turn 4 w/o vial anyways).

    My current manabase:

    4 Temple Garden
    4 Razorverge Thicket
    4 Horizon Canopy
    4 Ghost Quarter
    2 Tectonic Edge
    2 Forest
    1 Plains
    1 Eiganjo Castle

My list currently runs 14 green and 14 white sources and I have been incredibly happy with my mana base. 11 out of the 22 total lands provide some kind of utility outside of tapping for mana.

I wouldn't run anything other than the full 4 Horizon Canopy in G/W. Hierarch will help you cast spells and this gives you so much more staying power vs decks like Jund and close games. However, in mono white I could see only running 2. The damage is negligible since we don't take that much from our lands anyways (the damage isn't compounded in comparison to a fetch/shock manabase) and we also already have a good burn and affinity matchup (at least my list does).

If I went up to 23 lands it would be a 3rd Tectonic Edge.

Jam 4 Mindcensors and 4 Qasali Pridemage? (Leonin Relic Warder if you are mono white?)

The Commander series has also brought Shardless Agent and Baleful Strix. There is some good stuff for Legacy in these Commander products.

I wish Modern had a way to add cards to the card pool without having to go through standard.

I ended up going 2-1 with my list.

Lost my first round to an Anafenza Company deck which doesn't seem like too bad of a match up on paper but he nut drew me game with a turn 1 birds, 2 finks and a turn 3 anafenza and seer. Game 2 he fought through my path and ooze to get there after assembling the combo twice. We played a fun game afterwards and I at least won that one.

Won my second round vs. RUG Twin in 2 games. Both games I was just able to have multiple pieces of hate into play. Game 1 was a combination of Pridemage, Thalia and Wingmare and game 2 my forge tender was able to stop him from sweeping my Pridemage, Ooze and Thalia from the board with his Anger of the Gods; a followed up Arbiter and double ghost quarter sealed the game.

Won my third round vs. Bogles in 2 games. He wasn't able to get a creature too threatening and I was able to just chump on the ground while beating in the air while pridemage blew up any lifelink auras he played.

I am really happy with the current list. Flex slots imo would be the Dismember, the 3rd Avenger, Mangara and possibly the 3rd Wingmare but I am happy with my current configuration. The dismember was fine but could be moved to the SB. I am trying to decide whether I should play this deck, RUG Delver or Jund at an upcoming PPTQ next weekend (My friend borrowed Jund from me and went 3-0). I am currently leaning towards this deck, mostly due to having 80%+ of the deck foil.
