Quick question: If you had the open room in your board, would you play Lifebane Zombie for green/white matchups like Melira Pod and zoo? Is it too slow for theformat I simply think it helps with putting on the pressure while still being disruptive, but I can see how it might not have high enough of an impact at 3 mana in some of the matchups where you want it.
i'm actually thinking about boarding in scions for match ups where we want to be aggressive and race. i'm not exactly sure what i would take out of my board for it or how many. like against pod, we run just a hair too slow and our counter suite doesn't do too much. i would gladly swap out useless (less useful) cards like leak or snare for the potential to poop out 2/2s and protect blossom from pridemage, harmonic sliver, or abrupt decay.
You should be boreding out leaks on the draw anyway. Potentially even on the play depending how you sb.
Because this thread won't listen to reason and will bring up the same topics again and again (e.g. Scion).
I don't play scion but I'm not sure if I would fault someone for doing so, but I will agree that splashing a color especially just too be cute is totally unnessecary. Sure it could
Theoretically work but why not just make the deck
As streamlined, consistent, and competitive as possible. We just need to remember the golden rule K.I.S.S.
Hey guys I am back with some updates. I have been doing pretty well at my LGS Modern Nights. Usually going X-0 or X-1 never worse than that. Here is the list I am working with now.
Hey guys! I played at my LGS Modern Night again, went 3-0 then drew in the finals. I played against Meleria Pod 2-0, Burn 2-0 and the Jund went 2-1. With the same list I posted earlier, but went minus -1 Mistbind Clique, +1 Vendilion Clique. Its running very smoothly, and there are very few times where I feel like I am in a bad spot.
The problem with an aggro strategy isn't BB at all, spamming 2/2 or 3/3 with a shroud BB with scions in play is the epitome of aggro/control strategy. Aggro Fae is a very good aggro.
The simple problem is that aggro as archetype isn't working in modern (less than legacy but still), when you elevate the complexity linear strategies fall short.

I agree with Looooooooo. For me it is the match-up against key decks like Twin and Pod that argues against the aggro-version. LSV commented that he felt like aggro-Faeries can draw into some strong plays such as BB-Scion-Mistbind, but that control-Faeries has better average card quality. I think Modern is a combo-dominated format and control-Faeries has better card quality against combo. I have been trying to bring aggro-Faeries very close to control-Faeries. So I'm trying Scion, Kira, Mistbind, and Snapcaster all in the same list. I have more discard and more 1cc counters than standard aggro-Faeries. But I don't run SoFaF in it because it conflicts with Scion or Kira. Maybe Scion should be a 1-of, and Mistbind a 2-of, irregardless of whether you see yourself as playing 'control' or 'aggro'? LSV seems to rate Jace. I find him underwhelming in Modern and have yet to view a game where he was better than casting TfK or Think Twice.
Scion and Kira are occupying slots I might otherwise give Sword of Feast and Famine, which I feel is the most control-oriented sword. It's possible some amount of cantrips or drawing would improve this, but my intuition is toward omitting them and relying on the card-counts. Note the favourable interaction of Kira with Spellskite.
I just dont understand why would play Kira over Scion?? They do effectively the same thing but scion has flash, and pumps your fae.
I agree that Scion is better than Kira, but Kira also protects herself.
Also, I remember that someone brought up running Thirst For Knowledge in Faeries? Would it be a good idea to throw in Engineered Explosives (in the sideboard or mainboard) and an Academy Ruins in the mainboard?
Sure she does protect herself but she is a 3cmc 2/2 sorcery. Not something Fae is in the market for in my opinion. Also I play EE in the SB and its pretty good. I like it a lot.

I love the smothers. They are very good. Basically kills everything I care about. I'm playing them over more gftt because of affinity. I need things that will actually kill stuff against them. I am also very pleased with tragic slip. I think it's much better than disfigure. I've killed a few elesh Norns with slip. It kills everything that you would use disfigure on now that deathrite is gone. Basically it can kill anything if you're willing to chump with a token.

So far playing, I have noticed that I am at an advantage against
Storm
UWR
Burn
Affinity
even against
Rock
and at a disadvantage against
Zoo
Pod
I still haven't gotten to play much against either Twin, or Tarmo-Twin. How is our matchup against them?
I played my list against a UR Twin deck about 4 times, and didnt drop a game. It was almost easy mode. His list even ran 3 Swan Song in the main still didnt really matter at all. I am one of those fools that plays 3 Scions and a Sword of Feast and Famine. The Scions were actually pretty decent here. Probably the worst matchup for them but they just allowed me to turn the corner so quickly. which I think is a key part to betting the combo decks. Good disruption and a fast clock. I digress. The matchup seems super solid, and probably gets even better post bored.
This is going to be another $120 playset of lands.
I doubt it. Modern already has City of Brass. It doesn't need this. Legacy CERTAINLY doesn't need this.
I'm guessing $15 a pop.
The difference is this will be easier to get a hold of than City of Brass. I expect it to stay at $20 for a long time. On top of that the foil art is awesome. Foils for this thing is going to be sky high. EDH also loves this card to death and goes into every EDH deck possible. There will be plenty of demand for this to maintain its price tag.
Banning Splinter Twin is just silly. Its a deck that is easily interacted with, whether you guys think its a control deck a tempo deck or combo deck. Its very easy to interact with. There is literally no reason to ban twin. We need to stop calling for bans and start calling for unbans. Also just because Twins popularity going up doesn't mean anything really. Its a very competitive deck that is on the cheaper side. I just want unbans. Im tired of complete decks getting destroyed because of bans.
Melira Pod actually wins over Kiki Pod more frequently due to better disruption in form of removal
It really doesn't. You can look at tournament reports over the course of the past year, the Kiki vs Melira matchup favors Kiki for being the less fair of the two decks. Kiki Pod is built to handle disruption as second nature.
I would like to see the said "tournament reports". The data form the last months I have access to show 69 to 55 won matches in favour of Melira Pod. Favoring Melira Pod even more in the recent months with the updated builds for the current meta.
I've been playing Kiki pod for a long time and I very rarely lose to melira pod. It always seems like a very good match up for us. Our dudes are just bigger than theirs and we don't really care about their disruption because we also have very good disruption for them.
I knew this deck was insane, not at all surprised to see it do well. I like Flame Slash if youre worried about spell skites, also kills deciever exarchs. I also like pillar a lot though. I could see going either way.
I wouldnt discount it. Have you tested it at all?

Against pod I brought in 2 surgical extraction one slaughter pact
And 2 relics. Took out on the draw 3 mana leak and 2 IoK if I remember correctly.
