I don't know how I feel about Brineborn, but I wasn't liking Pteramander and the fourth Djinn, and I wanted a little extra Pirate for Lookout's Dispersal and focusing on a more flash-centric approach. The lack of evasion is pretty bad, though, and it doesn't power up quite as much as you would hope. If you draw it without many cards in hand, it is a flash 2/1.
I'll probably move back towards the Autumn Burchett/Ross Merriam lists.
Mono-Red is still tough, albeit a little better, but I think Ross showed that we can technically beat anything.
I like this, interesting to consider if the format goes back to Dredge, Humans, Tron, Izzet Phoenix and Wrenn Six Jund, which seems likely. Not sure if UW Control gets better or worse or breaks even.
It's a crazy Modern GY format where 2 mana GY hate just means Game Over (for the person playing GY hate!)
So far, this is a format where you have to beat UW Control, GY decks (Bridgevine, Phoenix, and Dredge), Humans (for now, might also get run out of the format), possibly Neoform, and whatever the latest Whir Prison Combo deck, and then every other possible thing.
10 R sources is a bit light, especially for sideboard with Anger. I've run an Eldrazi and Taxes W build, and while you don't use much main and maybe 10 is ok, it is going to be rough post-board. Also, you do lose a lot of the utility lands.
If you want to add a color, maybe more like Tom Medvec's deck, rather than the Serum Powder builds? Then again, it isn't the Serum Powder deck.
However you go, though, good luck!
@ThatOneNinja
I'm with you. Karn hasn't been good enough to main for sure. It is an interesting out to Artifact decks, however, which we have not had.
I'm not sure about the 2nd Copter, maybe that has to be a Relic of Progenitus now, or even 2 and no Copter, which is just too slow. Thoughts?
I was doing Ravenous Trap, but with 4 Leyline, probably don't need it, especially if I add Relic to the main. I have two spots I have not decided on yet.
Playable in UW, almost everything flies, but it doesn't stop The New Stoopid. Fair card for a fair format, but that isn't Modern. Tmpo/Aggro Control can't deal with the obscene linearity without disruption. Maybe Force of Negation is playable, not sure it solves the issue either.
UW can find room quite easily. I think you cut back on -2 Rattlchains, -1 Selfless Spirit, -1 TGoT. Between another 1 drop and more resilience, it seems like a strong addition.
I think I am off Warping Wail for the moment. Probably going to test this build, see how it goes. I like being able to get things that fight things out of the sideboard for certain matches. I like Scion and Ugin for the control and mid-range matches. Copter might come out of the main entirely, since I don't like being at 22 creatures, especially since it is really 18 as we can't cast SSG.
To be more specific:
Are you running them main?
If so, what did you take out?
I feel like the main 60 is somewhat tight, so I am running mine in the side, also with some utility tutorable targets.
For those running Karn, the Great Creator, how many are you running? Is it mostly a 4 mana Stony Silence with upside?
I would add, Karn's +1 with Liquimetal Coating is some bizarre land destruction and you can open up some non-creature permanents to being hit by Dismember where we probably won't get Blast Zone to 4 or even want to do that. It would be funny to make Worship a 4/4 and Dismember it. Or a planeswalker.
[+1]: Until your next turn, up to one target noncreature artifact becomes an artifact creature with power and toughness each equal to its converted mana cost.
I'm not sure about the manabase. I feel pinched between all of the utility lands. Maybe Zhalfirin Void is the one we can most afford to lose? Maybe I want more manlands? I don't know.
And I'm genuinely unsure about Karn, either Karn. I like Karn, the Great Creator in certain matches, and to just go get something. I like Karn, Scion of Urza against mid-range and control.
It would be nice to think JT isn't pimping, but who knows.
I posted this because I think it is a novel interaction that has possible applications. Previously I would not have considered Kirin, but it is oddly effective against very land-dependent decks and provides the possibility of multiple one-sided board-wipes in combination with Selfless Spirit. In fact, I think his build is not good because you want 3 of them.
It could just be bad, for the reasons you point out, but I am going to test it (with proxies for now!)
I don't like the idea in the Mono-W Eldrazi and Staxes deck because he took out Reality Smasher to do it, which is kind of crazy.
I've been doing some testing with this:
4 Merfolk Trickster
4 Siren Stormtamer
4 Spectral Sailor
3 Tempest Djinn
3 Brineborn Cutthroat
Lands (20)
20 Island
Spells (22)
4 Curious Obsession
3 Dive Down
3 Lookout's Dispersal
1 Negate
4 Opt
3 Spell Pierce
1 Unsummon
3 Wizard's Retort
3 Cerulean Drake
1 Surge Mare
2 Aether Gust
2 Essence Capture
3 Negate
1 Tale's End
3 Entrancing Melody

Jund might make Mariner better, I'm kind of so-so on it but taxing removal, hand destruction and edict seems vey relevant especially with Giver.
Bump that.

IMO, you would really want:
-2 Copter
-1 PTE
+3 Selfless Spirit
