7 year 10 mo super-lurker here, (54 posts, most of which was within the last month or so) ready to follow whatever incarnation MTGSalvation becomes! I love the spoiler layout of MTGSalvation and its community discussions, even though I rarely took part in the discussions myself.
Thank you to the creators/owners/mods/community for making MTGSalvation an enjoyable spoiler/idea hub for us lurkers!
Urza-pawn for Urzatron?
Also, niche corner play - you can Lightning Strike your previously undamaged Feather in response to an opponent's discard spell so you can hide that particular card from them until EOT. So pseudo-discard evasion effect.
Perhaps the best of the best on Amonkhet are mediocre on Ravnica? Along the lines of, "You think life's tough on Amonkhet? Let's see how you fare against Ravnica's 10 trials. We call our trials 'Guilds'."
Since it's a targeted triggered ability and since it's all one block of text, if there's no legal targets doesn't the whole combat ability get countered (by the rules)? So she doesn't shuffle herself into the deck?
This is exactly what caught my attention to count the letters. Normally WOTC is super grammar-conscious, which is why the "talks" stuck out to me and to you as well. Here we can see they're still super grammar-conscious, bending a grammatical rule like the artists they are.
I think Evoke may fit well on Innistrad or Amonkhet as well! With this picture just being a staircase in a corner, really this could belong on any of several planes. I can definitely see Rakdos evoking elementals as part of their self-sacrificing showmanship though.
Gorgeous.
Yes, Hunger of the Howlpack targets Agent of the Fates. AofF triggers and your opponent sacs a creature. HotH resolves with its Morbid side = 3 +1/+1 counters.
Almost like a...Blizzet
Chimera will see play in rogue decks I think. Young Pyromancer rogue for sure at least. Lots of abilities packed onto an uncommon though; evasion + pump + trample. On par with Unflinching Courage for the same CMC
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the templating doesn't match between Legendary and non-Legendary creatures, which obviously is there for the Legend rule. The conflict with this is, if you're thinking like a computer (which I believe processing Magic, the stack, and name referencing, is firmly based around the way a computer processes information), the name reference has to be consistent otherwise your programs won't find the right item because the name is switched on you. There isn't a "this" clause to go by except that we naturally pretend that it happens in our minds (which is a good thing and it works). Like I said I'm probably over thinking this
References: Sakashima, the Imposter; Lazav, Dimir Mastermind; Cemetery Puca
I guess this is true. Cemetary Puca functions the same way but there's no Oracle ruling on the name reference changing. Perhaps it is referring to the card's printed name since we don't see the name physically change on the card? (This may be wrong for MTGO but I don't play MTGO.) For example, if I have two Artisan of Form cards and I copy Storm Crow. On my opponent's turn my opponent casts Sever the Bloodline on my unchanged Artisan. The Storm Crow Artisan is unaffected because its name is Storm Crow, but its text box still says, "when you target Artisan of Forms..." instead of "When you target Storm Crow..." (referring to itself). I'm probably just over thinking this haha.
